Just because you haven't scouted them yet doesn't mean you can fast expand one game and then fast tech the next.
With stupid tactics like 4-pool, you never actually get to fully scout your opponent until you get lings anyway. So there are many BO's to choose from with or without scouting.
Also, you don't need to actually see their base to understand what they might be doing sometimes. You can usually judge what they're up to by prodding them with a couple of units and see how many units they send in response  |
