Not sure what thoughts are from staff on other topics so I'll leave those to them, but changing username has been something that isn't really considered much of an option due to the number of instances across the site where a username is referenced to link your account with your stats/info/etc.

It could all be restructured to not be linked via username I would imagine, making it change-able, but the amount of work involved would be monumental.
