don't know if someone already explained this but...

1. You can use the predefined BPM/BPM changes already coded in the MIDI file itself as a reference for stepfile making.

2. To get good quality MP3 sound from a MIDI file, you need a decent synthesizer to play back/record the MIDI file. There are software or hardware synthesizers available. The best ones are usually not free, unless you get them from some other source. Most normal MIDI players/converters sound terrible and/or like previous-gen video game music.

3. I am also interested in this topic, and I have been doing MIDI for about 12 years.
