Default DS: FFR Tournament

The Tournament has ended! Congratulations to the top finalists!

Welcome to DoubleSetup, the first unofficial FFR Tournament to utilize the ever so awesome double elimination brackets. For those who know how double elimination works, or if you just don’t care at all, skip the explanation on it and read on.

1. Double Elimination Explanation

A double elimination bracket is derived from the single elimination format but is split into two sections, the winners' and losers' brackets (W and L for short). The W bracket is almost identical to a single elimination bracket; however, losing in the W bracket does not eliminate a player from the tournament. They instead drop into the L bracket at a position that reflects how far they advanced into the W bracket. Anyone who loses in the L bracket (their second loss of the event) is eliminated.

The first round of the L bracket pairs two players who just lost in the first round of the W bracket. The winner of this match then plays a player who drops from the second round of W bracket due to a loss there; the player is placed in the bracket at the letter/number corresponding to the match in W bracket where they lost. Further L bracket rounds alternate between these two match setups: two players who survived earlier L bracket rounds play, and the winner of that faces someone dropping from W bracket.
Get it? If you don’t, then don’t worry. I’ll be the one keeping track of everything and I’ll eventually post brackets along with updates.

Visual Explanation

1. Okay, so here we have an example tournament of eight people. Everyone starts in the Winner's bracket.

2. First set of match ups ends. The winners: Synthlight, chardish, JasonKey, and Rebirth0. These people move on in the Winner's bracket.
The losers: Shashakiro, darkshark, Tasselfoot, and scottish. However, unlike a traditional single elimination tournament, they are moved into the Loser's bracket.

3. Next up the second set from the Winner's bracket and the first from the Loser's.
Winners from the Winner's bracket: Synthlight and JasonKey. Loser's from the Winner's bracket: chardish and Rebirth0. They're moved into the Loser's bracket to face whoever won the first set of the Loser's bracket.
Winners from the Loser's bracket: darkshark and Tasselfoot. They move on to face whoever lost the second set of the Winner's bracket. Loser's from the Loser's bracket: Shashakiro and scottish. These people are eliminated.

2. Signup Info

Know how double elimination works? Good. To be eligible to sign up, you must have played at least 300 games of FFR. You sign up simply by posting in this thread with a clarifying message.

The number of rounds there are going to be is dependent on how many people sign up. It could be as small as 8 people (or smaller) or as big as 64 people (or bigger). All match ups in each set will be played at the same time, so we’ll be able to get through it fairly quickly.

Since I have no expectations on the amount of participants, I’ll cap it at 64 people. I doubt there would be anymore, and if there were, 128 people would be needed for an even amount. If, by some miracle, 128+ people sign up, then I'll cap it at 128. First come first served.

When sign ups end (after the deadline or if the amount of people caps), each participant will be given a number corresponding to when they signed up (signed up first, then you’re number one, second signed up is number two, etc.). These numbers will be randomized and will be placed in the brackets accordingly.

3. How Matches Work and Submission Info

After a round begins, a song of my choice will be announced for the current round. The difficulty of the current song will start at Easy and will gradually get more extreme.

A maximum of three songs will be played per matchup:
1st Song (Normal Difficulty) – 2 days to send in your score
2nd Song (.5-1.5/6 Harder than 1st Song) – 2 days to send in your score
3rd Song (1+/6 Harder than 2nd Song) – 1 day to send in your score

This accounts for both the winner’s bracket and the loser’s bracket. If I get submissions early (both participants got an AAA on the first song), wait for the next song.

Of course, if you end up beating your opponent’s score in the 1st or 2nd song, sit tight while the other participants finish up. Participants will proceed accordingly in a double elimination tournament. Two losses and you’re out.

First and foremost, you must send me two screenshots: Your score AND YOUR LAST 10 FFR GAMES PLAYED.
Your score screenshot must include the little header at the top right corner which includes your FFR Info (Logged in as ______, FFR Rank, Credits, Game Plays, etc.).

Your last 10 FFR games played screenshot must include the little FFR signature (“Bragging Rights! Here are your forum Siggys and Blog Graphics”).

These rules are to help prevent fake scores and all that bad stuff. Failing to abide by them will result in your score being invalid until you submit screenshots that are in the correct format.

(Yes, I stole these submission instructions from Shash. What’s he going to do; sue me?)
-When you think you have a score you want to submit, take a screenshot of it and send it to me via forum PM or email at (ZeronRB (at) gmail (dot) com). If you don't know how to take a screenshot, follow these steps:
1. Press the Print Screen button on your keyboard.
2. Go into Paint (Start>Programs>Accessories) or another imaging program and hit Ctrl-V, which should make the screenshot pop up on the screen.
3. Save the screenshot somewhere in your computer.
4. Go to an image hosting site, such as www.photobucket.com or www.imageshack.com, and upload the screenshot from your computer. You can also upload images to your FFR account.
5. Send me a link to the screenshot via forum PM or email/Post it in the Tournament thread.

5. Rules

As a mere FFR member, I cannot enforce many rules other than the submission rules.

Submit as many screenshots as you want (that means as many tries as you want), preferably ones of the current song. The last score you send in will count as your current score. Once the deadline passes, you can’t submit a score anymore.

If a round finishes early (all matches end after the first or second song), then we’ll move on to the next one.

Honor system, as every unofficial tournament is subject to. This means no lying, fake scores, manipulating the brackets in any way, edited scores, or having someone else get your scores. Oh, and no cheating.

If you’re not permitted in the Official FFR Tournament (run by Shashakiro), then you’re not permitted in this tournament either (not that those people give a rat’s ass about this tournament).

Bending the rules or trying to find/using loop holes in the rules will result in disqualification.

The deadline is set after I announce that a round has begun. In other words, check when I edited this post. If I edited this post at 4PM (shows your own time settings), then 24-48 hours later is when a song/round will end.

If there are rules that I think should be added in, they will be edited in this section. Added rules will be justified.

Feel free to PM me with any questions regarding the tournament.
