Re: Boss Rush Mega Pack NOW RELEASED! (for real this time I swear)
Since I am responsible for a bunch of these files (quality un-assured) I am gonna try play through this pack and give my thoughts. Since I really don't know what I'm talking about take anything with a grain of salt.
First off I think the difficulty numbers should have been normalized cause its a bit funny having a bunch of 1's (all of mine etc) even though we have etterna ratings now, some people don't use it.
Also the audio volume on some of the songs is a bit low so maybe you could have fixed those.
btw did something happen to DMRIw's files cause most of them are off sync and one's audio was cut for some reason lol
Reviews below:
Baruserona - off sync by a 48th??? other than that it was a nice technical chart but a lot of the empty space could have had mines or something
Bassamenco - The mini anchors in the gluts felt really nice to play with the music, I like it
BLESS YoUr NAME - audio volume is pretty meh, chart wise it felt that the build up was more interesting to play then the chorus but hey, thats the songs problem. For what's stepped it plays pretty well (although the surprise minijacks felt a bit strange)
Brand New - Feels like a hybrid between a nice JS chart and a tech chart. Those jacks are gonna suck ass on rates though (difficulty spikes lol). If this was pure JS I would probably it on rates a bunch
CANDYYYLAND - Similar to the previous one but this one makes more sense music wise. The jacky bits were nice and fun to play but the boring(ish) intro/outro makes it a bit ehh
Cirno - well... it was actually pretty fun, but my eyes have no idea what they are looking at lol. Gratz for managing to step this as it was all over the place
Crazy Sprinkle Friends - Difficulty spikes ahoy! (Is that your signature stepping style lol) Felt understepped in some places but since I like the song would probably play it a few times
Dreamcast - Personally I love fast charts with rolly patterns so this went down well. The few jacks at the end were a bit rough but suited the song fine
El Hijo - da fuq kinda weird shit is this? Probably biased cause I suck at jacks, but even though they may be justified it felt that their difficulty was way above the rest of the file
End Time - Some of the buildups felt a bit underwhelming (especially the ending) but the patterns were quite fun to play (both versions although they felt too similar tbh)
Enthusiastically - Did something happen with the offset for your files? From what I saw there are some super long anchors in this one but since the issue with sync is there I can’t really comment much
First Mythz - Thanks for the two charts, the easier one plays very nice but the harder one has awful difficulty spike issues lol. Some of those jack patterns just didn’t agree with my fingers too
Flip Flap (oni) - I liked this one, nice job
(heavy) the mines in this one were way more obnoxious which put me off a bit.
Gas Gas Gas - the solo was a highlight, the rest felt good. Will probably try this on rates later
Gravestoned - Found this boring cause of the song and length but the chart seemed fine
Hyper Beam - My file, a little repetitive (should have mixed up the patterns in the second half a bit) and also very spikey. But it's a sweet song and fun chart to play
Judgement Day - Also my file, some parts are a total mess and could use a clean up but I think it's fun to play. Not quite the normal style of DF JS charts you’d see
Kimi Wo Mamoritai - Kinda same problem with bless your name, the chorus feels a bit bland with respect to the rest of the song, seems fun on rates tho
Kirby’s Adventure - Almost seems synced this time. Not quite sure of the length of some jacks but its ok to play
Kuusou Mesorogiwi - Seen too many charts for this song tbh. Audio is a bit low too. Stepped pretty well though
Leopold - Not much you could really do with this one. The trills mean rates would useless for people who can’t jack (aka me lol). Chill song
liberatedliberator - Props for using rolls (the hold type) in a way that you actually have to play them. Nice climax theory with the god awkward patterns at the end :P
loli fantasy - felt like I had to strain too much to enjoy this one, a bit too anchory for my liking (not sure if on purpose or not)
Me,You And Everything Became Untrue - uhh something went wrong LMAO, decided to check in AV before playing cause of the issues with your other files. This seems to cut off around 1:45 and the sync is on the piss over time
Mentai Cosmic - My file again, No idea how this plays on rates but even for a jack noob like me, 1.0 is fun as heck
Midnight Madness - My file, I think I lost the plot somewhere cause some of that handstream is horrible, my bad. Song is a bit repetitive but it's not too boring as a chart.
Morph Moth - Fun enough to play. There was a few sections with obvious right hand bias (I can’t complain cause I do it in some of my own files). Song choice doesn’t suit me though sadly
My Boys Are Going Brrgazzen - didn’t play cause looking in AV sync drifts about like crazy and it's over 5 mins. It's a shame cause all your files look quite fun and technical
Night Highway - My file. Nostalgia from the Snowboard Kids OST made this enjoyable for me. Glut patterns in some places are super rough but the streams are fun as hell
Parallel - Hmm I think this took “correctness” too far and made some of the bits with jacks super dumb. Most of it was a blast to play but when you get shat by 228 bpm jacks it kinda turns you off
Phosphorescent Hysteria - cute jacks but the offset gluts around the middle felt a bit awkward to play. Not much to say about it really
Pixelated - My file. Yeah this one is a bit dodgy tbh. Also if you miss the last three notes, join the club lol
Praise Cat Sensation - Also Mine, this one has a real focus on center 23 trills in the JS/HS and although it does have one stupid jack (my bad) I AAA’d it when testplaying for this review.
Pre-Parade - quiet audio? Pretty fun basic file although the few gluts in the JS at the end felt a bit out of place
Psychedelic Onizakura Alliance - Really enjoyed BG, EZ not as much but the song was great.
Puppy Parade - oh dear god that first drop is ear cancer inducing lol. Trying to acc those bursts and poly’s is a nice challenge but the repetitive nature of the song is a bit annoying
Ray of Darkness - this was going quite nicely with nice fun 24ths then those hands at the end came lol. Would have been a solid file for rates but with that spike at the end I can see many scores getting dunked.
Rebellio - I can see why this was stepped as dense as it was and it reflects the song pretty well but I just didn’t find it overly enjoyable to play. The preview music just painted a different kind of chart in my mind.
Revolution - Some people might enjoy challenging technical charts with holds like this but not me. It feels like the fun factor and playability went out the window tbh
Ride into Obsession - Since the vocals seemed to be disregarded completely this got kinda boring quick. Would hold up quite well on rates but then you had to put those 16th minijacks in and make the end jacks ahdfslkjahla. Will probably try rates anyway
See The Lights - Once again not sure how well this will hold up on rates cause the end gets a bit spikey but otherwise a normal broken JS type of file. The layering of jumps felt a bit inconsistent in place though
Shockwave - My file, super happy with how this turned out although it does have super spikey parts, it suits the song fairly well. (SOLO CHART IS NOT A THING - wasn’t supposed to be added lol and it's not even finished. The finished chart is super bad and I probably won’t ever release it ahaha)
Soda Swing - I’m a big fan of bursty charts (just look at my own files in this pack lol) and even though this is pretty stupid in places, it's pretty fun. Also I love the song
Still The Road Is Full of Dangers - Totally reminds me of the kind of shit you find in the HSMP packs with the ridiculous trills. Since I can’t jack this is a fail for me soz
Telephone box - Are these made for o!m or something, the ending of this is boring and easy and full of holds. Also not a fan of holds + JS type stuff (I guess that’s what heavy is?)
The Ballad of Little Johnny - Wait was this a dump or technical file???? Song choice was great and chart was fun but had no idea what I was playing lol.
The Discolored Wall - Yeah no, those 24th gluts are the only hard part of this file and feel way over done. Maybe 24ths with the 16th poly’s could have worked if the 16th sounds were still there
The Last Battle - Decent file, the 12th poly’s with the 8ths was really interesting to play. One thing I hate though is that jumptrill into a hand eww... one of my pet peeves in charts. Also maybe you could reduce the layering a tiny bit as some of the ending got a bit bland cause of the density.
Thor’s Hammer - (heavy) Fairly fun to play, the mines are really close to the notes though so are pretty easy to hit. Nice to have a playable version of this song compared to the yolo dump one
(oni) - I can accept the 64th wall but wtf was that 32nd handstream section. Totally ruins the chart for me sorry
Tower Of Heaven - Last of my files. Chorus is almost entirely made of mini jumptrills that transition from regular to split ones when the song changes pitch. Personally I find this actually really fun to play although it does kill stamina very quick
Vyzee - OK this one was surprisingly fun. A nice bit of everything and although a few jacks were pretty awkward to hit, the overall chart seemed pretty neat
WAVESTEP - Nice and chill song, a good chart for trying to MA I guess. I wonder what it would have looked like if you continued the 8ths through the offset drums parts. Probably would create stupid difficulty spikes but might have been interesting
XHAOS JUDGE - With mines on this becomes pretty dumb in places so I’m gonna play it with them off to see if my opinion changes of the chart. Honestly feels like one of those SMOC charts that have ridiculous difficulty spikes in them just because they were charted to a certain layering pattern and playability was disregarded. BTW the poly’s were one of the best parts in the chart, really fun to play and that roll hold section caused my brain to explode (no idea how I was supposed to play that, just ended up spamming all keys lol).
As you can see I'm pretty picky with stuff I like to play and song choice plays a huge part. But overall I'm starting to feel like the difficulty in this pack just isn't high enough to be called "boss rush", heck even the SSS4 pack had some harder files lol. This stuff is mostly on the easier side which means things needs rates. But a LOT of these files (including a couple of my own) have difficulty spikes that will be annoying on rates.
Looking back it seems as if I shat on a bunch of peoples hard work so I would love people to give their unfiltered opinions on my stuff. Rip my shit to pieces please and thanks
