My situation kinda has a different spin, though. I met a girl back last July and we talked a little bit here and there, and enjoyed doing so. We started going out in December, and during the relationship, we became best friends. So, it can happen two ways.

I had a whole debate with Blitz about this once, and I think it might actually be an interesting discussion to get going somewhere...
