I have to give it to Mau5 that if the background image for the characters works great for a profile, then there isn't a need to change it if one doesn't want to. Sure it's taking the lazy way out but there's no need to put extra, unneeded effort. As for the gradient, I'm sure it's just for the sole purpose of not having a nasty "cutoff" at the bottom of the image. Sure, you can say he took the lazy way out, but I have the say the profile looks pretty decent. I'm not trying to take sides or anything, just playing a little devil's advocate...
