Re: Subside Voting
Subside 1
— Out of the three submissions, this one feels the most structurally sound; it has a solid representation and each section feels like there’s a cohesive progression to it. Rhythms are mostly correct and the layering fits nicely. It also manages to cut into the issue of repetition by chopping a small but non-trivial piece of the introduction out. It just -feels- right to me.
Subside 2 — A very close second for me. The chart’s presentation is pretty good here and the pitch relevance/layering appear to be well done, particularly in the verses/introduction. However, in terms of playability, I feel like it’s slightly less fluent than Subside 1 is as a whole. The bridge between the first drop and the second buildup feels a touch clunkier to me.
Subside 3 — Wow, what an approach. This is an interesting concept as a whole and this plays pretty enjoyably for what I would call a technical dump. The unfortunate part about this submission is that it takes great liberties to play with subjective representation but doesn’t do enough with it; there’s a lot of pattern redundancy in situations where you would have musical direction to mix things up. On top of it, there are some very nasty bursts that require some extreme control that aren’t the most fun to play.
