Default Bynary's Second One-Handed Tournament

-Bynary Fission's One-Handed Tournament of 2012-

The tournament has been concluded! Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to all participants who helped to make this a kickass event!

Could it be...could this be it? Is it that time of year already? Why yes....it's Bynary's One-Handed Tournament of 2012! It has indeed been too long since the festivities have last begun, and as some of you may recall the last time we did this this the tournament was a smashing success, and so this one will be even greater and bigger than before! As the thread title states, this is a one-handed tournament, so make sure you know how many hands you need to play with before you sign up. Natively spread players are welcome and encouraged to join, though keep in mind I will monitor your scores for potential use of spread.

I won't be asking everybody who wants to join for video proof, indeed this should apply to few, if any applicants. However, for those that are I will ask for it based on your claimed skill level, whether I know you, your join date, etc. For example, somebody with 50 skill tokens, 250 FCs, and 50 AAAs who joined a few months ago won't be asked for tons of proof. But if you joined recently, and you've already got Battle Ax, PLANETZ, AAA'ed a bunch of 9s, and have FMO FCs while claiming it was done one handed, then yes, you will be asked for proof before I let you join, to ensure legitimacy. Blacklisted people may not join, due to the uncertainty of whether they are cheating or not. I will do the placement for divisions (more information below), though you can ask to be placed in a certain division, and while I will not necessarily acquiesce to your request and I will keep that in mind as I evaluate your scores.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The rules of this tournament follow:

No cheating, obviously.
You may not post a score you have previously attained on a song, as this is considering cheating. I will know if you do this.
Don't have others get scores for you.
And obviously, make sure any score you post in this thread was achieved using one hand only.

Breaking any of the aforementioned four rules above will result in your score being removed, and very likely disqualification as well.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Now that the above has been clarified, on to the more technical details of this tournament - these contain some important information so be sure to at least skim this.

-Like the previous one-handed tournament, I will be putting you all in a set of four divisions: Beginners, Intermediate, Expert, and Masters. The level ranges will roughly be the same as before, though the songs will probably be slightly harder than last time since the performance of the finishers exceeded my expectations.

-Some of you may wonder whether a 4-fingered one-handed style is acceptable. The answer is yes - all variations on the one handed style are acceptable, whether you play two fingered or any variation of the three and/or four-fingered styles. The only restriction is that you can't play with two hands, obviously. :P

-Tiebreakers only occur in two instances: if the number of AAAs in a round exceeds the number of people set to advance that round, or if multiple people are within the orange range (see below for more details on that) at the time the round ends.

-As was the case with the last one-handed tournament I hosted, rankings in this tournament is based off of your raw score, not your total score. This way, a person who gets a good score but gets a miss or two will not be unduly punished, and likewise a mashed FC will not be placed above a clean non-FC. To clarify:

Although the overall score is lower, the raw score is higher.

Although the raw score is lower, the overall score is higher.

So which will be better? In this tournament, the former (raw) score.

Submissions can be sent either by a PM to me or via a post in this thread. I prefer that you do the latter, but I will accept a PM either way. Replays are also accepted now that the newer engine displays your raw score (to clarify, the original replay engine only displayed your total score).

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Each division is tentatively scheduled to have four rounds, however in the instance that enough people join, I may extend it to five, though this is not certain. For each round, if you cannot score above the line needed to stay in then you get eliminated by the deadline. The same rule applies to tiebreakers. Eliminations are based on the number of people per division, and the different colors your name is assigned on a given update indicates your current status within the given round.

Turquoise indicates that you are well above the elimination line, and are in no imminent danger of being eliminated.

Yellow indicates that you are just above the elimination line, and you will likely need to improve your score in order to move on to the next round.

Red indicates that you are below the elimination line, and if you do not improve your score you will be eliminated by the deadline.

Orange indicates a tie between two or more players on the elimination line. Say there are 20 players in your division's current round, 9 people are safe and nine are in the red zone. Numbers 10 and 11 tie their scores, so those two are neither safe nor in danger. In such a case, the tied individuals must break the tie. If two or more individuals remain tied by the deadline, then the rest of the players above the elimination line will advance and the tied players will be given a private tiebreaker, which will then determine the outcome. These scores will be sent to you by private message, as they do not apply to the rest of your division.

Gray indicates an inactive division for the given round. This only applies when one or more divisions are playing a tiebreaker that your division is not participating in. Alternatively, a division that is not given a song for a round will have this status (PMs will be sent out to those who are in this status to clarify what this means).

-Tiebreaker Information-

If two or more people are in the orange range by the time a round ends (see above) OR more than the number of people set to advance AAA the given song, then a tiebreaker will be administered. For example, if more than 10 people in the Beginners division AAA the given song, then a tiebreaker will be administered at the end of the round.

-Division Placement-

If you are a pure (or nearly pure) one hander to begin with, the process is simple - I will take a thorough look at your level stats and determine the division that you go in based on the overall quality of your scores.

If you do not play one handed natively, then it would be helpful for you to send me a few sample scores on songs you think best showcase your abilities. While it is not required, showing me a video of you playing would ensure a more accurate division placement as it allows me to examine your skill and playing method in greater detail.

While most of my decisions regarding division placement are final, I am willing to be flexible about some of my placements - believe me, I understand what it is like to be placed in divisions I cannot realistically compete in. But please do not waste my time - if you feel that you were incorrectly placed and you politely bring it up with sufficient evidence, I will happily discuss it with you over a PM or AIM. Otherwise, don't message me if you are going to complain for the sake of complaining.
