caterva, -ae? idk immediately what word you want here

auriga, -ae (charioteer) is the same though, even though that was a typically male job

i think grammatical gender is a convenient enough way of marking distinctions of animacy, but also allowing you to have multiple noun classes in a way that makes some sense to people. for latin i can just imagine the declensions forming around several historically well-rooted words they had, like how dies, -ei (day) still manages to be irregular even in 5th declension iirc. i used to have some thoughts about potential organizing principles of the declensions but they might be lost to time now

yes hello my interests include morphology the word kind, less so the body kind
