Default ATTN All Sandbagging Enthusiasts!

I remember when things used to be simpler for me, when it always seemed like I was the one leading the pack, making the pace for others to follow. Time was always on my side too, helping me hold down the competition when my scores were more achievable. Now though it looks like time has betrayed me, closing off the gates to fresh air on the surface. It’s so hard to swim with these sandbags tied to my body, too hard. I can’t fight the weight any longer, it’s so tiring. Maybe if I just close my eyes, take a deep breath, and fall asleep, things will be better. The stinging in my eyes will fade, the disappointment will fade, everything will fade.

Suddenly a gate at the bottom begins to open, draining the waters in the room. Is this a hallucination, am I beginning to lose my mind? Regardless of what I thought though it felt real, and I’ve never been so happy to be gasping for air in my entire life. Two people come running towards me sounding rather concerned, my eyes are too blurry to make out anything about them as they approach. One of them finally speaks, “I think he’s alright, we came just in time then.”
“There was a grave error with placements”, the other person nervously cleared their throat, “You’ve been one division too high this entire time!” This was news to me, news I certainly wasn’t going to contest at this point. The first person finally speaks to me, “We know the first couple of rounds are a bit pointless for someone of your skill, so we’ll have you play catch up from qualifying for the quarter finals and up.” They remove the bags from my feet, hand them to me, and then toss a warm towel over my back to stop my ever growing shivers. I don’t know why it took them this long to correct their mistake, all I know is I am going to make sure this time, I end up on top.
