For what it's worth, I used to hate gays and think all the negative stereotypes, etc... because I was brought up that way. I hadn't personally met any at that point.
Then I actually met and interacted with and befriended people who were gay and found they were perfectly normal, even nice people. At one point I even had a roommate who was gay and he was one of the nicest and cleanest roommates I've ever had. There were never any problems.
So I would say, for the younger people, there is still hope. They just have to have actual interaction to see that gay people are perfectly normal, good people just like other people. So for anyone who is gay, be sure to set a good example because whether you like it or not, you are a representative of gay people everywhere and maybe you can show someone they are wrong about gays. If they're open-minded enough you may change their views.
I doubt you're going to change the minds of older, set-in-stone, Bible-thumping types though.
