Go to the "Options Menu".
Select "Game Options", and switch the "Game Over" option to "End of Song".
You still fail the song, but it doesn't cut the music.
On the older games (MAX, MAX2, Extreme U.S) Enabling "Event Mode" allows you to select a song after you fail one.
