A surface pro keyboard cover is -not- the same quality you'd expect from an actual laptop keyboard

No you don't. You do need to almost completely press them to register but you don't have to completely release

I use the Razer ornata chroma. It's a "mech membrane hybrid" but it's the best keyboard I've used for rhythm games. It's got low profile keys and it feels like pressing the keys. Before this kb I...
