Cat scratching
Does anyone know how to get a cat to not scratch the furniture because my parents are going to get rid of our cat if it doesn't stop.:(

Re: Cat scratching
Declawing is always an option, plenty of scratching posts could help or even these little vinyl caps that would have to be replaced periodically on the cats nails.

Re: Cat scratching
Um.... build a cat scratch (basically a wall or pole covered in carpet or some sort of fabric similar to what they're scratching) and cover it with catnip.
And rub lemon against the stuff you don't want them to scratch. Declawing can actually kill a cat. My friend's cat was declawed and after the declaw she stopped eating and eventually died. |
Re: Cat scratching
I've had all my cats declawed and have had no problems. Sure it wasn't something else that killed it?

Re: Cat scratching
Well, co-incidence doesn't always mean causality, but in this case I can't see what else could have done it.
After the declaw she just got depressed and wouldn't eat anymore until she died. |
Re: Cat scratching
Horrible way to go... :( So I guess the vinyl claws covers or scratching posts covered with scents would be the best best.

Re: Cat scratching
Make them "outside" cats.

Re: Cat scratching
Spray it with water every time it does scratch that which it is not supposed to.

Re: Cat scratching
Another thing my Vet said to use besides water is a plastic flieswatter. You can hit them with a flieswatter lightly and it gets the message across without hurting them.
