The first OVA came out not to long ago. It was a pretty good start to what I hope gets increasingly better. I liked some of the news designs and some of them were a little lacking. Overall it was enjoyable.

Oh shit son... New characters and plot overall, or are characters like the Major and co. still around?

Re: Ghost in the Shell: ARISE

it's a prequel, an origins story of how major came to join section 9

although, since it's by a different director, it is also basically in an alternate universe

2 movies (original, shell) -> motoko gets assimilated into the net (w/ 2501)
S.A.C series + S.S.S -> instead of 2501 we have the laughing man, the puppeteer does appear in S.S.S. though (although in a different sense)
arise -> prequel story, some things don't line up with the S.A.C series

I should probably watch the original of this show and give it a shot. Sounds really interesting.

Do you think it's going to cover the stuff that arose in season 2 with the Major and the Antagonist (Haven't watched in a while and can't recall names but the one who was like a hivemind with the cyborgs) where there was the little girl and little boy both whom were full prosthetic, and how that tied together in the very end?

Re: Ghost in the Shell: ARISE

probably not, that was motoko in her childhood years - arise covers her teenage years and goes over how she joined section 9 and became the way she is, but MAYBE they'll have an episode about it (i highly doubt it) - this is because in the original manga she's seen as sexually active but as a lesbian

Re: Ghost in the Shell: ARISE

If I recall correctly the explanation of how she became full cyborg in the original series was different. She lost her body when she was a kid alongside some other boy or something. There was that whole thing about folding cranes with her wonky new hands..

In arise they claim she was cyberized right out of her mothers womb. I don't think it will be able to say this is a true prequel to the series.
