Total Lunar Eclipse tonight
If the weather cooperates, you might be able to see the total eclipse of the Moon later tonight. But you'll have to stay up late. The eclipse will begin shortly after midnight and last about three and a half hours.
An eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon are lined up so that the Moon passes through the Earth's shadow. The Moon will be totally covered from 1:41-2:53 AM, giving it an eerie orange glow. Take some pictures if you stay up to watch. edit: The next lunar eclipse won't happen for the United States until 2015 or 2019. The next solar eclipse won't happen until 2023. edit2: 12:37am Central Time http://i53.tinypic.com/t9zg5j.jpg 12:52am Central Time http://i56.tinypic.com/2jdm9ew.jpg 1:06am Central Time http://i52.tinypic.com/2gt69oj.jpg 1:19am Central Time http://i56.tinypic.com/mrfhgw.jpg 1:34am Central Time http://i54.tinypic.com/2m4f8g6.jpg 1:48am Central Time http://i51.tinypic.com/taqypu.jpg |

Re: Total Lunar Eclipse tonight
I saw this in the news earlier this morning. I've never seen a total lunar eclipse before so i plan on staying up today to spot it right on.
EDIT: My parents are going to stay up too for it so most likely, we will have a lot of pictures hehe |
Re: Total Lunar Eclipse tonight
Were getting snow here so I won't be able to see it... sounds cool though.

Re: Total Lunar Eclipse tonight
I believe I saw one with my two cousins while staying with them a couple years back; one of them kept taking picture after picture.
Hoping the sky clears up a bit here by tonight, though. |
Re: Total Lunar Eclipse tonight
I want to stay up for it but I don't know if that's going to happen. I'm already tired and it's not even 7pm yet lol

Re: Total Lunar Eclipse tonight
Sky is perfectly clear here, but taking pictures at night is pretty challenging for the average camera user (I won't say photographer here). I'll try though, but I'm bound for disappointment.

Re: Total Lunar Eclipse tonight
Winter solstice + full moon + total lunar eclipse = last occurred in 1638
Next one will happen in 2094. I don't care what you're doing tomorrow -- this is worth staying up for |
Re: Total Lunar Eclipse tonight
awesome, can't wait. I probably won't take any pictures as the flash function on my camera is broken and ALWAYS flashes. I'll be sure to explain the orange moon in full detail though! =D
