Re: 11th Official Tournament
Err, I know it's holistic and this question has been asked before but what roughly is the "D7 cutoff" so to speak? I mean I have an 86 AAA, an 87 AAA and some 89-91 SDGs and I still feel like a D6 nub.
Also I need to get a good keyboard bc this laptop is shit. |

Re: 11th Official Tournament
Obviously I'm not on tournament staff so my word definitely is not official, but I made an alternate version of the skill rating system to help me predict who will win D6 and if I plug you (rayword) into that algorithm then you're above everyone currently in D6 in almost every metric.
I would assume that the reason you're D7 even though you haven't unlocked Home Run Derby is due to your consistently good scores in the 86-91 range. The only scores in that range that strike me as being 'bad' relative to your skill level are scores that were obviously recorded when you weren't at your peak (such as Freedom Dive and Almost There). |

i would also like to say that it takes almost no time to recover skill at <d5, i wouldnt be surprised to see a d3 player get back to their previous skill level after a 5 year break in a month. it wouldnt surprise me at all because it doesnt take long at all to recover skill at that level. hell i wouldnt be surprised to see a player who has never played a rhythm game in their life get to d3 in a month of playing the game. |

I've been in this community for a long time, running tournaments for 7 years now. I have a pretty good idea of how most people improve and how things go after skill drops. I've seen it tons of times. |

I'll tell you what I've met many a D7 player in my life and the first thing I notice has always been their tremendous forearm aesthetics

Speaking personally, despite not have fallen below mid-high D2, I don't see myself having a good chance of reaching my previous skill level during the tournament, as I've spent more time recovering from the break I took than I had playing the game before the break. I could see how someone who has fallen farther could consider their chances nil. Quote:

To say its all muscle memory just seems... inaccurate? |

there is a chance I may have been joking

Though if you did just get jacked arms from playing rhythm games that'd be pretty swell. |

Re: 11th Official Tournament
It's a blend of muscle memory, clarity of pattern recognition, and reaction time
At the D3 to low-D4 level people off the streets would have the physical capabilities of reaching the usual kps of that difficulty (how fast can they press buttons on a kb), it's a matter of aligning everything together with the three things above At higher difficulties it does become a matter of "can I physically do this yet" and training because that sort of sustained kps isn't in the realm of what normal people would be capable of None of this is a dig at lower division players, I was in D2 for several years before really getting into it, at which point I delved deep into improving my pattern recognition and pattern muscle memory and it worked out well |

Re: 11th Official Tournament
end of story is stop complaining and suck it up
it's 100% on you to decide whether you want to strive to improve, or if you just want to complain your ass off about being bad. saying that you feel like you can't improve to where you used to be is you being lazy. if you want to stay lazy that's fine. don't ask for people to accommodate your laziness. |
