If you want the longer answer, it's basically that the problem is that this site is actually composed of what amounts to multiple sites that can sort of communicate reasonably with each other, with a bunch of implemented features done by different people in different ways over a bunch of years, so like...simply editing your username in your userfile would be super easy.
Just...some parts of the site use your username, and some of them use your user ID, and some use both in different parts, so to actually change your username in a way that won't break anything is a ridiculous scavenger hunt of code to make sure it gets changed correctly in all the places it needs to. |
