Death...

I know that this may sound like a crappy topic, but I think about it all the time.

What really happens when we die? Being a Christian, I know that it's bad to doubt God, but I can't help but think, what happens when we die? Do we ascend to a higher level of being? Do we just stay in the darkness? Is there a heaven and hell? Do you think that you can dream or form thoughts? Thoughts and speculations please.

And mods, don't move this topic please. If it goes into Chit Chat, a bunch of people won't take it seriously. And if it goes into the GB... I can't even imagine the kind of posts this will get.

As Falcons already said. This has been done numerous times. Here, have my thread which spanned 4 pages and had a hell of a lot of interesting debate.

As I've said before...

You're put in a box or jar. You're either worm food or sneeze enducing dust. You're dead. Hope you're cool with that.

Conciousness is derived from the function of the brain.

When you die so does your brain; it ceases to function.

So there shouldn't be anything, from your point of view (since your point of view no longer exists)

Death is a logical argument for religion, in the sense that if you're religious eternal unconsciousness is the worst that can happen to you whereas if you're not it's the best.

But we don't know how our mind really works with the brain. We know that the 2 are undeniably linked, and we can conceivably learn everything about the brain, but I don't think we'll ever really know how/why, and because of that I think its possible that there indeed is some form of life after death.
