TWG Host's Handbook
Hi Prospective and Current TWG hosts! There seems to be some confusion as to what a host's responsibilities are recently, and I'm hoping this will help. Please read over the following step by step procedure to review the steps in becoming a host and preforming host duties.
Step 1: Designing a TWG Game. Basic game balance guidelines: ----There should be 3 humans for every wolf. ----The Human team should not be able to create a confimed Human alliance easily. ----Once your game is created and you've balanced everything, your next job is to send it to the current game's host. ----When the current game is over, that game's host will put up a postgame and eventually a player voting thread. If your game gets the most votes over 4 days (or gets 20 votes). You will become the host for the next game. Step 2: Player signups 1). This step isn't hard. Make a thread, and post your game design. 2). Give people time to sign up. Players should be using [twgv][/twgv] tags to claim a spot in the game. For example: In would be a valid signup. -------If demand is high, set 2 different signup times (at a minimum 4 hours apart) for people to sign up. 3). Once the game fills you can move to step 3 Step 3: Hosting the game 1). Send PMs to all your players before you create the thread. 2). Create the thread with the Game description and all the rules in the Opening Post 3). State what phase it is and when it ends in a second post. 4). Follow the game, making votecharts and answering questions as necessary. 5). The Phase ends at exactly the time you posted in your phase opening post (see step 3) ------------If you said the phase ends at midnight, that means any votes with an 11:59 PM time stamp will be counted, while any votes with a 12:00 AM timestamp will not. ------------As a host you have the power to modify the exact time of phase ends to fit you and your players needs, but you must clarify what times are valid and invalid so your players know and can plan for specific phase end scenarios. 6). Repeat items 3-6 above until the game ends. 7). Proceed to step 4 Step 4: Postgame Once the game is over you are required to disclose all the nuances of the game. ----Who had what role ----Who was MVP ----What were your personal thoughts as a host? Please use the following format for your postgame Opening Post disclosures: IN addition You also want to ask players to send you the games that they want to host now. Some may have sent them before this and that's okay. When the postgame starts to die down, proceed to Step 5 Step 5: Game Voting As the previous host, It is your job to hand the torch to the next host. Take all those games people have sent you while you were hosting and drop them in a "TWG: #### Game voting thread". Cite the host and the name of the game, while dropping the game setup in

tags. Thats Everything! |
Re: TWG Host's Handbook
Next chance I get at a computer I wanna add on a bit to this. Pretty much a 101 on how to balance games, unless manti you wanna do that

Re: TWG Host's Handbook
Each of those sections needs to be expanded pretty significantly, that's just an outline for now.
It was all I had time to write at the moment. |
Re: TWG Host's Handbook
I've been wanting to host a game actually, having balanced examples would be awesome.

Re: TWG Host's Handbook
As someone who's never hosted I guess take this with a grain of salt:
I don't like the two sign up times kinda sounding like a requirement. It really shouldn't be. Some of us miss both times because they're when we work. It should be a host choice how to run sign ups. In section three number one you might want to add a side note that it should be individual PMs. It's an assumption but probably better just in case to have it there. Also maybe put the information on what phase we're currently in on the first post toward the top? It'd make it loads easier to find, while also being less time consuming. I find myself constantly having to dig for the phase end posts and such. Maybe I just like to be too careful. :/ |
Re: TWG Host's Handbook
Attention hosts:
Please use the postgame template in the spoiler of section 4. This makes reviewing and archiving the game much easier for your moderators. Thanks. |
Re: TWG Host's Handbook
So it's not 00 good 01 bad? Or is 59 good 00 bad outdated?

Re: TWG Host's Handbook
maybe header the first two bullets of step 1 with something like "starting points for balance"
step 2 point 1: i think you mean "make a thread and post your game design" here another bit we don't really do anymore is the "2 different signup times" in step 2, i think, since these days we just let signups roll until filled. demand isn't what it was anymore :/ step 3 point 6: should be "repeat steps 3-5" also i personally make the game thread before sending PMs so i can link to the thread in the PM, but i can see arguments for doing the opposite also also the word "step" is overloaded - if you want to keep the headers the same, maybe call them "items 3-5" or something |
Re: TWG Host's Handbook
Updated for all points. Thanks for being constructive Indy.

Re: TWG Host's Handbook
drew up a thing i edited into my post in the rules thread before, about templating info to go in OPs
Quote:
i like the :00 good/:01 bad so i guess my phases would technically change at 11:01:00, so that's why the specificity on the second line anything else? edit: it needs whether wolves are allowed to talk during the day. unsure how best to fit that in, since i think it's ugly in a lot of OPs edit2: added day/night start, tried squeezing in the daytalk thing |
Re: TWG Host's Handbook
I have a different template I use, but that’s a good basic one. May add it to the OP and spoiler tag it tomorrow morning.
