Sorry for the super long wait. Would blame it on the Covid-19, but it's a bit more than that tbh. Notes in a hot second.

Breakout [Heavy] (psychoangel691) [8.5/10]

Judge Notes:
> Released via Monstercat in Monstercat Uncaged Vol. 6. Checks out in permissions.
> Sync is good (No changes necessary).
> No issues found within simfile properties, although ‘featuring’ in Artist properties can be changed to feat. or ft. for shortening. Doesn’t matter all that much. Breakout isn’t currently in-game, so while it does have the [Heavy] suffix on it, it can go in without it, or with it. Not much of an issue, just making note of it.
> No issues found within submission folder contents.
-[00:27.879] 16ths don’t necessarily line up all that well with vocals that are happening at this specific section, but is passable as-is due to proximity with drums. Vocals also land on a 32nd @ 00:28.046, on the 24th @ 00:28.176, and on the 12th @ 00:28.398. (There’s some later established 43[24][14] patterns that mimic this section, so this is most likely just the vocalist missing their mark.)
-Banger alert.
-[00:48.990] Would play better as [34][34][34] in parallel with the earlier [12][12][12] at 00:46.324.
-[01:52.435] Possible missing 16th. Lyrics here sound like “May I paint the whole scene”, with the ‘I’ missing.
-Fantastic file. Really feeling the raps in this one.

Change Yourself light (bmah) [7.5*/10]

Judge Notes:
> ARM falls under the same music label and music group as IOSYS, so this checks out.
> Sync is good (No changes necessary).
> Chart is made on Easy difficulty. No issues found within simfile properties, although there is an ‘ × ‘ symbol under artist property in simfile properties that may not be processed correctly by R^3’s language system.
> ‘.dwi’ found within submission folder contents. Suggest removing.
(**)-[00:51.118] Not really feeling the context of the row of [23] jumps here. Unless they are representing something significant in patterning, I’d probably cut them back to singles like the majority of this section follows.
-[01:45.311] Really hard to look through this section stepped as 8ths when the music screams 16th. I get that it’s scaled back for difficulty, it’s just very noticable.
-Not feeling anything really special in this file, but also don’t really see much incorrect with it either. Will go into CQ but only really need the [23] jumps to be looked at or explained. Feels overstepped & uneven with what the song is trying to portray, with major sounds coming off 16ths, rather than 8ths or 4ths.

drivinFTR (bmah)[--/10]

Judge Notes:
-Passed on this one. Looked at it & gave criticism on the file prior to its submission to FFR.

Electroman Adventures (Matthia) [7.5/10]

Judge Notes:
> Permissions check good. Available in permissions thread Original Post.
> Sync is good (No changes necessary).
> No issues found within simfile properties. Chart is made on Medium difficulty.
> ‘.sm.old’ found within submission folder contents. Suggest removing.
-[01:30.559] 16th triplets kind of just come out of nowhere right here, a minute and a half into the file. It’s not incorrect, just very spiky. Suggest using the previous section as a palette example, and go with the anchor jack switching to the other hand.
-Pretty laid back & relaxing file in terms of structure, except for the 16th triplets part that gets thrown like a curveball. Reminds me a lot of S.S.H’s works currently in-game. On a personal note, would recommend switching up the 16th triple section 2/3rds in.

Five Karots (mi40) [8.0/10]

Judge Notes:
> Permissions check good.
> Sync is good (No changes necessary).
> No issues found within simfile properties. Chart is made on Challenge difficulty.
> No issues found within submission folder contents.
-[00:21.171] Note? Maybe? You’ve got some really soft arrows near the end, so this particular area can be fleshed out by 1-2 notes.
-[00:25.115 -> 00:25.991] PR going opposite direction.
-[01:17.679 -> 01:18.555] PR comes off in the opposite direction again here. Not really much to poke at with how easy/slow the song is.
-Easy song, super gentle. Nothing arbitrarily wrong with it, besides some PR alignment in relation to other placed notes, and choices to leave some soft notes omitted. Gets a thumbs up.

GHOST (DarkZtar)[--/10]

Judge Notes:
> GHOST falls under the ‘CTCD’-014 Cyphisonia E.P. which is a solo album by the artist. Doesn’t look like it’s licensed in any other game due to it being a solo/personal album, so this checks out.
> Sync is off by approximately +0.002. (Music Offset in ArrowVortex syncs at -0.157.) Please change to reflect this. Notes will be based off of this music offset.
> No issues found within simfile properties.
> ‘.sm.old’, ‘.ssc’ and ‘.ssc.old’ files found within submission folder contents. Suggest removing.
-Apparently TC_Halogen will be looking at this one, because of its difficulty curve.

Human Convention (Ghost_Medley) [5.5/10]

Judge Notes:
> Permissions check good.
> My god, sync is all over the place. I’ll let the sync slide into notes for right now, but I think it does need to be combed over. Seems to be a live recording, or one done without a drum machine. Sync issues are going to be reflected in notes.
> No issues found within simfile properties.
> No issues found within submission folder contents.
-[00:33.660, 00:35.115, 00:36.459, 00:37.802, 00:39.369, 00:40.489, 00:41.272, 00:41.832, etc.] A lot of missing 16ths in drum-focused breakdown.
-[00:51.757] This ‘12th’ lands on the 16th for the guitar still, including throughout the next bar in regards to the 48th & 32nd. imo a lot of the added accenting for the guitar here doesn’t really fit. Let the stream do that. There’s a ton of breaks in stream earlier in the song, and becomes noticeable in itself when it lasts for longer than expected.
-[00:52.802] Was expecting something a little heavier for this 4th.
-[00:53.641] Yeah, no. 32nd here doesn’t really fit. Double checked with headphones, still can’t hear it.
-[00:56.903] 32nds again. ???
-[01:14.136] Missing 16th.
-[01:17.556] Repeat drum omissions from what I’ve mentioned in the first note starting at 00:33.660, same with 01:18.876. I get that they are happening to put more emphasis on some of the heavier hitting sounds/sections. But, feels sort of ambiguous to which sounds get omitted and which stay in when examples like the one at 01:21.586 are apparent. By scanning this 2nd section, looks like there might be upwards of 50 or so missing from the file in total.
-[01:26.359] Unsure what this 32nd is following here. Sounds like a pretty generic 16th drum roll here.
-[01:27.280] Again, a really heavy 16th that was omitted. Same with 01:27.827 & 01:28.813.
-[01:29.716] 16th.
-[01:31.006] Like the white accenting here on the triangle.
-[01:40.936] Unsure why the 8th was dropped here, in the middle of the polyrhythm.
-[01:45.178] Repeat 32nd from 00:56.903.
-[01:53.676 & 01:54.338] Most of the step progression from a previous section indicates that these should be singles, but this is the only vocal break that has these timestamps as jumps.
-[01:59.227] Repeat 32nd.
-[02:07.672] vocal. Probably should be a single.
-[02:35.039] Definitely could have used some expanding on the short jazz solo here in a similar favor of what was done for the guitar near the beginning of the song.
-Most of the rest of the song contains issues of the same caliber that were identified earlier within the song. I definitely like the flow of the song, and the idea for how it was tackled gives the song a great deal of flavor. However, it could use a fair amount of work still both on filling in the finer details on what singles can be put in there, what shouldn’t, and smaller fine tunings in the department of whether a note should be a jump vs a single. It’s a miss for me, unfortunately.

Iteration interlude (Oberon47) [6.5/10]

Judge Notes:
> Permissions check good.
> Sync is good (No changes necessary).
> No issues found within simfile properties.
> No issues found within submission folder contents.
-Might want to consider making a cut to the intro of this song due to its length before hitting any notes in the intro (12 seconds). Could use a fade-in, or something along those lines.
-[00:41.481] Could have used something else to define the PR for following 32nd bursts rather than repeating.
-[00:50.080] 32nds here. Seems like due to the length of this song it’s going for a bursty short song category. Don’t see why not 32nds here.
(**)-[00:50.681 & 00:50.781] Missing 16ths.
(**)-[01:02.881] Earlier in the song, you had 16ths here, but they are omitted. Again, should be 32nds (or at a minimum, 16ths if not planning to follow the note at 00:50.080).
(**)-[01:03.381 onwards] Should be 16ths straight from here until the 4th at 01:03.881 to end the song. Was pretty anticlimactic.
-Quite a few issues here, but nothing unfixable thankfully to the song length. Included notes in asterisks for fixes required for minimal acceptance.

Obnoxious (ositzxz369) [8.5/10]

Judge Notes:
> This is music
> Permissions check good.
> Sync is good (No changes necessary).
> Chart is made on Medium difficulty. No issues found within simfile properties.
> No issues found within submission folder contents.
-No relative issues here on my end, just a very weird fever dream of a song might I say. Like, what is going on. I’d argue that some of the colorization for arrows could be improved, but the song is sync’d correctly. That’s not a sync issue, it’s a music artist tripping acid issue.

Passengers Easy (Deamerai) [8.0/10]

Judge Notes:
> If accepted, consider switching the ‘Passengers’ in-game to ‘Passengers [Light]’, and this one to ‘Passengers [Standard]’.
> Permissions check good.
> Sync is good (No changes necessary).
> Chart is made on Easy difficulty. No issues found within simfile properties.
> No issues found within submission folder contents.
-[0:10.000] Definitely been a while since I’ve seen down arrow notation to describe lower notes vs the PR norm nowadays.
-[01:14.932] This note and the next 2 notes would probably be better suited as 4’s in the right column for sake of mirroring the beginning of the file.
-[01:28.623 & 01:29.428] Same situation as the above note, although a little bit more difficult due to the layering at the immediate start of the next measure.
-[01:36.677] Subtly weird PR here.
-[01:49.563] Repeating ^
-[01:56.207] Maybe switch positions of the blue 8ths here? Same thing with the immediately following pattern.
-Very calm, aromatic-level song. Only complaints are on a personal end, not really a technical end. Very nice.

Radio (VisD) [7.0/10]

Judge Notes:
> Permissions check good.
> Sync is wonky in 1st half. Will reflect in notes if there’s any issues. Sync in 2nd half is good. (No changes necessary.)
> No issues found within simfile properties.
> ‘.dwi’ file found within submission folder contents. Suggest removing.
(**)-Definitely digging the radio-black-and-white vibe that’s happening at the beginning of the song, but cuts to color a little bit early for what the song implies. Transition should be happening at 00:12.491.
-[00:38.460] Might be missing a 16th here.
-[00:45.491 -> 00:46.991] Alright, starting to get an idea at what instruments you’re paying attention to, and which ones are being left out. Had a lot of missing 16th notes prior to this one.
-[00:50.741] Should be a jump.
-[00:54.022] Missing 16th. Preferably within the down column. Ends the 16th run a little early here.
-[00:58.850] Missing 32nd. Might I suggest {1-2-3-4}1 or something in that fashion?
-[01:04.710] Missing 16th. Repeats as missing at 01:10.710.
(**)-[01:12.491] Don’t see the significance of the accented white notes here because they don’t repeat, and don’t necessarily stick out from other sections with the same breakdown.
-[01:13.710] Missing 16th. Similar to the one at 01:04.710. Repeats again at 01:19.710 (might be a little tricky because of pre-existing layering).
-[01:16.522] Might be a ghost 16th.
(**)-[01:24.510] Think maybe this entire section before the white notes should be all red as well? So that people aren’t getting super confused from a colorization standpoint about what direction the song is going.
-Definitely a tricky one from a judging standpoint, because weak drum toms are being omitted, and kicks/hi-hats/snare are not. With that out of the way, there are quite a few mismatches here and there for the layering, as well as an overarching color issue with the chart that’s going to need fixing before getting in. Hopefully fixes to the layering are included as well, but the asterisk notes are the minimum.

SAIKOU (Psychotik)[8.0/10]

Judge Notes:
> SAIKOU makes an appearance on Monstercat Uncaged Vol. 7 Album. Permissions check good.
> Sync is good (No changes necessary).
> No issues found within simfile properties.
> No issues found within submission folder contents.
-Not sure if it’s an issue with how I received the file packed, or was an issue with how batch received the file. But, folder nesting should be SAIKOU (Psychotik) -> files, not SAIKOU (Psychotik) -> SAIKOU (Psychotik) -> files. Seems like it’s inside of an extra folder fmpov.
-[00:11.308] Missing 16th. Might be another missing 16th on the following 16th based on your layering preferences, but definitely missing 16th here.
-[00:18.926] PR could be handled a little bit better in this section, as a 4,3,1,4,3.
-[00:23.379] PR-wise, this 8th is higher pitched than the following 4th.
-[00:27.129, 01:27.129, 01:34.629] Repeat issues regarding PR from the note at 00:23.379. The variance of it at 01:30.879 is fine.
-Very clean chart. Only a few PR issues spotted scarcely around the file, song bangs. Color accenting is fruitful and flavorful.

Spirit Never Die (storn42) [7.0/10]

Judge Notes:
> Permissions check good. Shows up in the Permissions thread Original Post.
> Sync is good (No changes necessary).
> Chart is made on Medium difficulty. No issues found within simfile properties.
> ‘.sm.old’ found within submission folder contents. Suggest removing.
-[01:08.635] Possible missing 16th. It’s quiet though in comparison to other instruments involved though, so just making note of it.
-[01:21.604] Missing 32nd. See 02:17.956.
(**)-[01:25.198] This should be a single. Other iterations of this chorus bit have this specific jump scribed as a single. Does not go to a cymbal crash. See 02:11.862.
-[01:45.612] Weird for there not to be a jump on this 4th with the amount of jump attention these cymbals are getting during the chorus.
(**)-[02:04.153] Jumptrill starts here. Doesn’t matter whether it’s a single (for building emphasis on it getting louder) or it’s a jump.
-[02:45.612] Could have gotten away with some serious guitar singles shredding here. I urge you to fill out these sections with some mish-mash guitar singles based on what you’ve built for drums at 02:58.234.
-[03:41.076] Guitar 32nd.
(**)-[03:43.212] Missing 16th. A little scuffed from guitar at the earlier position at 03:42.795 to make the call, but definitely a 16th here.
(**)-[04:52.270] Cymbal crash jump.
(**)-[04:56.853] Same situation as 01:25.198.
-Fun stamina song to play. Reminds me eerily of Dragonforce, but at a lower difficulty level, and not really a guitar solo :( . Really just needs fixes regarding specific missing notes. Don’t necessarily need fixes for missing notes that were cut due to layering, but are suggested nonetheless.

The Greet and Eat Boss Theme (M0nkeyz) [8.0/10]

Judge Notes:
> Permissions check good.
> Sync is good (No changes necessary).
> No issues found within simfile properties.
> No issues found within submission folder contents.
-[00:12.903] A bit of a suggestion for the easy section here, perhaps flesh it out with full 12th singles like the previous section, and make the current laid out single notes into jumps? It’s really lacking in difficulty in comparison to the rest of the file.
-[00:26.235, 00:27.835, 00:29.435, etc.] Got guitar & drum transitions here. Would make for some interesting triplet patterns, but your call. Would feel less awkward imo.
-[01:09.593] PR transition plays out a little bit wonky here, since there really isn’t any relatable pitch between the jump and the following jacks. See 01:15.993.
-[01:10.259 & 01:10.393] Missing jacks?
-A rare sight to see nearly a full-fledged 3/4 song nowadays. Very firm tackle at the chart as well, with pretty even difficulty, nothing too spiky, and good PR. A few things could be improved upon, but it’s good to go in as is.

The Sticks-For-Hands Rag (devonin) [7.5*/10]

Judge Notes:
> Permission check good.
(**)> Sync is off by approximately -0.050. (Music Offset in ArrowVortex syncs at -0.082.) Please change to reflect this. Notes will be based off of this music offset.
> Chart is made on Medium difficulty. No issues found within simfile properties.
> No issues found within submission folder contents.
-[00:02.766] Could improve on PR with a [23],1,4,[13] breakdown.
-[01:07.345] Jump here. Probably remove the following 8th at 01:07.503 to match your pre-existing song layering involving jumps.
-Quite an easy song, with not much wrong in it. Most glaring issue is the sync. Will need a sync fix for minimal acceptance, but also suggest taking a look at other notes as well.

Had a lengthy conversation with bmah regarding the [23]'s in Change Yourself light (bmah) [7.5*/10]. Apparently the [23]'s are going to cymbal crashes, and it checks out. Should be fine to accept as is.

Re: Jan/Feb 2020 Set 1

notes!

[01:08.635] - added
[01:21.604] - listening to it slower, it sounds like the notes are accurate, but that its a 32nd later than it should. i.e. there is a note at 1:21.604 and not one at 1:21.708 i believe its actually the same for 2:17.956, meaning there is a ghost note at 2:18.600.
[01:25.198] - i'm going to trust you on this one. apparently i have a hard time hearing cymbals. listening to it now i still cant tell if a cymbal crash is or is not there.
[01:45.612] - huh, your right.
[02:04.153] - i just wrote this hole piece on why that not right. i listened to this section over and over again, and finally hear the quiet snare at 2:04.153. fixed.
[02:45.612] - i feel the notes are a bit backgroundy and gives a good break in the song for a more calm section. At 2:58.234 the section has to build up and i feel at that point it might get a bit too spaghetti and either the chart wouldn't properly build up or it would be too large of a difficulty spike.
[03:41.076] - the guitar is playing 16ths here. the first note of the guitar is a little delayed, so either i can have a note on the 4th or i can move the note to align with the guitar instead of the beat. here i feel it makes more sense to align it with the beat.
[03:43.212] - added
[04:52.270] - i once again curse my ability to accurately hear cymbals.
[04:56.853] - i once again curse my ability to accurately hear cymbals.

-[00:12.903] A bit of a suggestion for the easy section here, perhaps flesh it out with full 12th singles like the previous section, and make the current laid out single notes into jumps? It’s really lacking in difficulty in comparison to the rest of the file.

I understand the suggestion, but I think it transitions oddly into the next section. The next section sounds way more intense, but would then look similar in structure(jumpstreamy). It's also the general approach I had to the chart. I would highlight one thing and then in the next section when another instrument/melody takes the forefront I omit it (the final section for example).

-[00:26.235, 00:27.835, 00:29.435, etc.] Got guitar & drum transitions here. Would make for some interesting triplet patterns, but your call. Would feel less awkward imo.

I think it would distract the player from the melody a little bit. Where as in the section after (starting at 38.769) the drums become way louder so it's sort of clear where the arrows go to.

-[01:09.593] PR transition plays out a little bit wonky here, since there really isn’t any relatable pitch between the jump and the following jacks. See 01:15.993.

Fixed

-[01:10.259 & 01:10.393] Missing jacks?

Fixed

Also added a missing flam to the guitar @1:25.393

Fixes sent!

> Permissions check good.
> Sync is wonky in 1st half. Will reflect in notes if there’s any issues. Sync in 2nd half is good. (No changes necessary.)

--- Yeah, the attack on a lot of the melodic notes is longer. Adjusted the offset slightly for the first half (and resets in the second half to the current sync).

> ‘.dwi’ file found within submission folder contents. Suggest removing.
(**)-Definitely digging the radio-black-and-white vibe that’s happening at the beginning of the song, but cuts to color a little bit early for what the song implies. Transition should be happening at 00:12.491.

--- Discussed with gs on discord and we agreed that this conditional can be dropped. In the fixed version, it stays at it is; musically, the transition is better at 12.491, but the drama/theater of it is a lot less impactful. I kept the color to how it currently is.

--- All the misc layering pointers were taken up, and also added some additional layering fixes here and there to make the file more consistent.

(**)-[01:12.491] Don’t see the significance of the accented white notes here because they don’t repeat, and don’t necessarily stick out from other sections with the same breakdown.
(**)-[01:24.510] Think maybe this entire section before the white notes should be all red as well? So that people aren’t getting super confused from a colorization standpoint about what direction the song is going.

--- These two conditional notes were fixed as per feedback.

Thanks again for the review, gs, I agree this would have been a tough file to judge with the no-weak-toms layering (wanted to avoid straight jumpstream in the breakcore section) and the come/go nature of some of the instrumentations themselves. Appreciate the attention shown to identifying what I was trying to do there, would have been easy and understandable to dismiss it as just missing notes.

GHOST (DarkZtar) [6/10]
Judge Notes:
- 25.386/25.522/(etc): while I understand the necessity for changing the pattern contour for more variation, you lose a bit of accenting by not repeating the jumps for the snares
- 26.340 to 43.795: not a fan of the layering in this section; it’s not really all that heavy compared to other parts of the song, yet every kick or snare is a triple -- this wouldn’t be so much of a problem if not for the fact that the harpsichord being followed with jumps doesn’t have the greatest of pitch relevance
- 44.613/(etc): if you listen carefully, there’s actually 32nds for the snares here
- 1:17.613: build up of 24th hi-hats here, if you listen (optional, ofc)
- 1:49.795: player’s left hands are being stressed coming into the entry of this burst which makes this split a lot harder to perform -- change the jump/16th before it to make the entry a little easier if you want to maintain that split-handed pattern
- 1:54.159: this is a bit easier than above, because 12th notes aren’t quite as stressing to enter into
- 1:57.431: oof, two sets of 12th note mini-jacks here just to perform this pattern properly
- 1:57.977 to 1:58.795: this sequence is just downright ridiculous to perform and most players will get absolutely crushed trying to hit that ending [34]
- 2:02.340 to 2:19.795: not required, but 17 seconds is quite a long time with no notes - consider adding even a few notes to the organ here if possible
- 2:37.249 to 2:51.977: this break simply doesn’t sit well with me; the structure is way too heavy and there is a lot of chaining/unnecessary repeated taps all because the layering is still trying to be maintained here
- 3:12.159 to 3:28.249: I’m not a huge fan of the pacing in this section; it shows that this is a bit too heavy when you have to pull away from your structure to use opposing 16th jumps for accenting the same instrument -- additionally, jumps for hi-hats also feels a bit… heavy here.
- 3:29.204: this one-handed 24th mini-trill is quite rough
- 3:29.613/etc: in contrast, this section actually feels solid because you’re accenting something that’s basically fighting with the percussion and it’s nicely colored as a sweeping synth
- 3:33.977/3:42.704: what’s with these longer 8th note anchors?
- 3:59.204: missing triple
- 4:05.340/4:14.068: absolutely evil. I love it.
- 4:29.068: remove jump?
- 4:30.448: the instrument you’re accenting here plays 12ths, not 16ths
- 4:56.477: another nasty one-handed 24th mini-trill here
- 5:15.840/5:20.204: x-xxx 64ths, not xxxx 48ths
- above all of these things, this file really drags. It’s so focused on keeping exceptionally heavy layering in many spots - at times, when the song makes a noticeable musical shift, the impact isn’t that great within the chart. You’re just endlessly fighting off extremely heavy layering and there’s not much more beyond that -- this could definitely be improved with a bit more creativity and finesse in some spots, but I just don’t see this being enjoyed all that much.
- in terms of playability, there’s definitely some pretty ridiculous transitions with 32nd bursts that need to be handled a bit more gracefully

Judge Notes:
- 2:07.582/2:10.031: in my opinion, relevance should be briefly broken to make these bursts a touch easier, but not a requirement
- file’s very solid
- people are going to hate this file and hate you for making it
