Artists Like ___/Where Do I Start? Thread

I felt inclined to start (read: rip this off of what.cd) a thread for people to find recommendations for people that like certain artists but wish to listen to find more, as well as people interested in a certain genre that wish to just find a good song to start off with.

To keep things clean, lets give the benefit of the doubt to last.fm as the final word on an artist's genre. Let's kick start by posting our favorite genre and 3 favorite artists of that genre.

Mine is Screamo
La Quiete - A band from Italy that some how shaped the sound of screamo for many bands by bringing a more artistic side to power-violence bands such as...
Orchid - Who played fast, were angry as hell and made sure you knew they were. But my all time favorite band is...
The Kidcrash - At first they played generic indie-punk-type stuff, but then they gradually began playing more punk-type stuff, and then all of a sudden they got really pissed off, and now they're not as pissed off, they're just yelling now. (That was a brief synopsis of all their releases.)

Cinemechanica.

A little lighter on the screaming, and has sort of a Dance Gavin Dance-esque guitar sound, but why the hell not.

Oh ho ho ho, trust me, I know, I know. The Transient is by far the best track on that album, but EVERY song on that album is lyrical genius. Going to download it now. Check this out, it's my friends band, for fans of country twang and violent heartbreak: http://www.myspace.com/INNARDS666

I'm wanting to hear some more old country that sounds like Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues. Anything with lyrics or a sound like that, any suggestions?

Meh, I really only enjoy them for the guitar instrumentals, which I think separates them from all the other emocore-esque bands.

Cinemechanica has a similar guitar sound, so they grew on my pretty quickly.

Interesting... I have AC Slater's Party Like Us EP and I'd say it's electro-house, sounds NOTHING like this.

It's remixed by Oli-G, who is a freeform hardcore artist. ;)

I'm with spitfire, though I would have given different examples for dubstep. Neros nice. I have issues with Flux. And UKF is a great source for dubstep, but sometimes its too fruity.

Re: Artists Like ___/Where Do I Start? Thread

Nero is definitely my favorite dubstep producer, but that's because they're really based in Drum & Bass. First time I heard them was the song "Bitch I'm Gone" on High Contrast's fabriclive set. I'd say Nero is the way to go if you're into Drum & Bass and want to get into dubstep.

(But I would also say Nero is the only dubstep worth listening to.)

First song I heard from Nero was "Act Like You Know" (Dubstep version) then I heard the DNB version, and I was like O.O "DUBSTEP VERSIONS WANK!" and have now followed his DNB. I agree... Nero is a genius.

Another artist like Nero by the fact that they dabble in both Drum & Bass and Dubstep is Mistabishi.

Haha Printer Jam is awesome

"No Matter What" is more my style of DnB, more liquid-y :D

I dabble in DnB and Dubstep - http://sectramusic.com/2010/11/08/10...nimix-dubstep/

I can't stand screamo music.

I'll listen to basically anything other than that mainstream crap people call music that plays on the radio, country, rap, hiphop, rnb w.e

I've started getting into older rock, Yes, Genesis, Rush, Deep Purple. But I still do enjoy my Whitechapel, Between the Buried and Me etc.

@ the Mistabishi thing...I was gonna be pissed if you didn't post White Collar Grime. Good thing you did ;)

Well I LOVE dubstep. I'm into the HARDCORE filthy stuff :)

Try searching for FuntCase (Takin the Piss), Widelows (DogPound), Skrillex (Scatta, ft. Bare Noize and Foreign Beggars), Tomba (Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique VIP), Biome (Rusty Badge), Culprate (Trench Foot), Dextron (This is Crack), Vista & Presence Known (Cataclysm), Torqux & Twist (Dubstep Hotline), Borgore (Act Like a Ho), Tag (Beast VIP), Banana Bomber (Disgusting), Camel Orgasm (Power Tools), D-Jahsta (Locomotion), C-IV (Give Me A What), Vylex (Carbine [unreleased, preview is by Zero on YouTube], Downlink (Ignition), Bare Noize (Plant Food, Level 67 (Fist****er), Bratkilla (Bratbutcher), 16Bit (Skullcrack), Diesel (Inspectooor)... and sooo many more xD

Brackets are songs recommended for that authour :)

Yeah, dubstep wise Skrillex and Borgore are amazing.

But, being an ambient and IDM person, I digress.
I'm looking for anything like this.

Unfortunately, Innsu hasn't made anything else (iirc).

Start listening to Phish. You'll be glad you did.

Can't stand dubstep. To me, it's lazy DnB. As far as recent music developments go, I love me some Hardstyle. If you haven't given the 2010 Defqon 1 compilation album a listen to, you really should.
