Common Music-creating Software (read if interested)
Fishing for sticky ftw!
So, you've opened this thread, therefore it's safe to assume you're interested in creating music on your computer. But there's always one question that pops up. What software is available for me to use? That's what this thread is for. Here I'll list some common software used to create music. --------- PC Free Software - Buzzmachines rofl - MuseScore - CSound :) Software that costs some cash - FL Studio (Demo available, limitation is no saving project files) - Reaper - ReNoise - Reason (Demo available, limitation is 20 minutes of use) - Cubase (No demo as far as I know) - Sony ACID (Demo available) - energyXT (Demo available) - Ableton Live (Demo available) - Cakewalk's SONAR - Pro Tools 9 (use any interface!) Mac Software that costs some cash - Garageband - Reason - Ableton Live (Demo available) - Pro Tools 9 (use any interface!) - Logic Pro Helpful Pages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DAW http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_sequencer Advanced Things: Best VSTIs! Check out this thread! Curious? Read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Studio_Technology ---------- If you have any suggestions for other programs that could be added to the list, please feel free to post. :) |

There is also a massive slew of trackers out there, the Chip Tune scene uses them I believe. |

Alright, list updated with Pro Tools.
I think I'll PM Squeek and ask him to sticky this. |

RE: Mac. Where are Logic and Reason?
Also, I've been using energyXT lately, and I think that it's one hell of an environment. |

Cakewalk makes several different music programs and they all have demos.
Cakewalk Project5 is a great FL alternative, SONAR is a pretty bitchin megaDAW, Kinetic is a pretty fun, cheap way to get into music production. |

Mac does not suck for you..I resent that being a proud user of Garageband, Logic Express, and Digital Performer.

Re: Common Music-creating Software (read if interested)
also for Mac and PC: Tracktion 2.
I used it a while ago, there's a demo on the site. Also used Reason and FLStudio 5 and 6, and I prefer FL's interface. And don't worry if you use a mac, download boot camp and Windows, and then you can run all the "PC-only" ones. |
Re: Common Music-creating Software (read if interested)
Renoise is probably one of the best trackers
|
Re: Common Music-creating Software (read if interested)
Reason is supposed to be one of the best, but from what I heard it REQUIRES a MIDI controller to work it, if that's not true, is there anyone who could explain how to use it 100% with the computer? Also, I've tried Fruityloops as well, is there a way to make full length songs with that other than just 3-10 second loops. Any help with these programs would be great

Re: Common Music-creating Software (read if interested)
You have a long way to go if you can't figure out how to make a full length song with Fruity Loops. Even if you just use one pattern you can technically achieve this. I suggest taking a look at the help file that comes bundled with it, it should show you the basics.
EDIT: I just noticed that Audacity isn't listed. Seriously, what the ****? One of the best free audio editing programs on the Internet. |
Re: Common Music-creating Software (read if interested)
