STARCRAFT does anyone still play it?

STARCRAFT anyone still play it?
so, since I just got into starcraft (about a decade late) i was wondering of some of you anonymous people could give me some advice in the game play :D.

I like mostly money maps right now (since it's easier imo than regular maps).

currently stumped by:

during mid game, terran tanks are a bother. How can i prepare myself so that tanks don't just over run me? I can't use air because the wriaths have got that. I know that i need detectors but just can't seem to get to them with my anti air before they shoot down my detector. keep in mind that they also have a detector craft hovering above their tanks (or more than one).

a possible option was that i could get some arbiters attach a few observers to them. Then statsis the wraiths and detectors while sending in my Dark templars. After my dark templars take out a majority of them, rush my goons to take out the wraiths.

I don't know, but it does seem quiet complicated having four different units taking out three terran units. Plus the wraiths could easily see my arbiters before they are coming >.< i don't know.

Money maps make me want to not play. They take all the strategy and skill out of what is supposed to be a strategy game. With money maps you just tech up to something ridiculous and make 100 of them, and just grind into the other player's similarly absurd forces. It encourages over-turtling, and no finesse at all.

As for tanks. Geez man, you play 'Toss, Corsairs have splash damage, and cloaked wraiths are almost always in a big clump. If they don't have Valkyries accompanying them (Valks are hands down the best of the air-air units in Brood War) you should be able to chew the wraiths into pieces, just bring along one or two detector units and you're pretty much golden.

Once the air support is dead, tanks are a piece of cake since they can't shoot up.

I just got into Starcraft as well; glad to see some people are also getting into it.

You can add me as "Relambrien" on bnet east or "Cobalt" on ICCup.

Also, I'd recommend the following websites for BW information:

www.teamliquid.net
www.sc2gg.com

Teamliquid also has all the information you could want on watching professional Starcraft, if that's your kind of thing.

I play toss but I'm actually pretty bad still. Only 25% win ratio on East, the easiest of every server. But I'm getting better.

As for maps, I only really know Blue Storm and Python, but I'm getting to learn Wuthering Heights, Andromeda, and Colosseum. Python's already out of the Proleague map pool and Blue Storm is probably going to be retired after this season, so I need to learn the other maps that are going to replace them on bnet.

It turns out that I play zerg exactly the same way that Yellow plays zerg, he just has done in about 5 minutes what it takes me about 12 minutes to do.

I used to play a lot, but now I get on like once a week, usually for UMS games.

Money maps are... not very fun. I'd learn how to play pro maps. =P

As for your tank problem, just how many tanks/wraiths are we dealing with here? Corsairs are pretty helpful, like devonin said. Tech disruption web too, and that can help your ground forces significantly if you place your webs right.
For ground, I'd go zealot/goon/ht. In fact, if your ground force is good enough, you don't even need to invest in corsair and let storm/goons do the wraiths for you.

Yeah, I'm on top of all the C++ and Java breakthroughs they're making back in Seoul :)

Anyway, since it seems we have some more players than everyone thought, how about we use this as a general SC thread? Post your IDs for the different servers, discuss recent progaming results, etc.

Oh yeah, forgot about that...

US East - BlademasterX (I play Protoss when I melee)

Anyway, I heard that July won the EVER Starleague recently, 3-0 vs Best. He also got a Golden Mouse too, iirc. I'd say that's pretty impressive. =O

You don't play even close nor does anybody on this website come close to as good as a semi/pro sc player.

we're talking about zero clutter max map amount. =.=' It's in the choke point and I want to know how to kill it so my units can at least do some kind of damage

i know i can avoid that entire place by going recall > pwn, but if i get rid of the choke, my other teammates without recall can get through/ wouldn't have to waste time going for a drop

and can I modestly ask a moderator to sticky this? I really think that a starcraft thread most definitely belongs in the gaming thread.

sorry about the double post

What dev meant is that in terms of style, they're similar, but yellow is infinitely better at it. Hence, the 5 minutes vs. 12 minutes thing. At least, that's what I'm assuming. Sorry if I'm putting words in your mouth, dev.

One of my korean friends is semi pro, he goes in tourneys and stuff. Hes amazing. I play every once in a while, but im not that good. I remember when my comm tech class played my friend 7 vs 1, and he beat us all lol. He played 7 comps and it looked like nothing for him.

Haha hell yes. I watched the whole thing on YouTube (commented in English btw). July went friggin' balls-out and 5pooled on the very first set.

Then he did a ****ing pimp drone drill in the second game and during the match, the camera cut to Bisu with his jaw about the drop to the floor.

p.s. if anyone wants to watch it in English, here's the YouTube author that commentates on a lot of MSL, OSL, and Proleague games.

http://youtube.com/user/VioleTAK

The commentators don't own the VioleTak account, but their own account is in the subscriptions ... diggitySC and moletrap and KlazartSC.

lol @ Bisu. xD

Some of the things that the pros do in SC are completely insane. Unreal, imo. If you guys haven't watched the Pimpest Plays collection, you should go do that.
