5.5/10 - REJECT

Incomplete or not, let's just judge this anyway:
Our cat reacted strongly to this song :D. But let's cut the nonsense:
- M18 this patterns with polys too 4,1,4,12,4,1 feels off, and so does the pattern immediately after.
- M22-M23 this 2,4,4,12,3,1 pattern feels off.
-M24 this 34,12,34 pattern is off.
-M31 this 1,2,1,3,4,12,13,12 is off.
- M32 onwards this is ok and it flows!
Overall worth redoing.

Diff 40

10/10 - PASS!

Perfect file. Nice techniques, interesting patterns, follows music with nice flow. This file we do need in fiffer, now.

5.5/10 - REJECT

It's looooong. But not long as Mariaaaaaaaaaa. It is enjoyable, but it has a bit too many issues. I think I couldn't spot all but here are the majors:
- Global offset reduced by 2
- Burst in M20 seems off
- M31 this 1,3,2 feels off.
- M45-M46 something wrong in this 3,2,34,124,34
- M73 Something off here 123,4,21
- M81 this 123,4,3,2,1 something is off.
- M108-M109 something is wrong here 34,2,1,3,124,34,124,13
-M129 off here again 234,3,2,1,4,3,2,14
-M198 this 134,2 feels off
-M205 this rolling starcase seems a bit random.
- M207 this 3,2 where 2 is 32th is off
- M213, Like in M205 this rolling staircase is random.
- M264 this 3,2,1,2,3,4 feels off.

Diff 56

1/10 - REJECT

Everything feels really off and the pattern choices don't make sense and most of them are seriously overstepped. The very ending kind of quiets down but still we have a wall of arrows there. It might be difficult to step so dense patterns with sm editor. Get DDream, it makes things easier. hi19hi19 has made tutorials how to use it, and you find links to those videos from this thread:

Your Pinky Pie review has been removed, as stated do not be rude in your reviews. We have inexperienced steppers that try their best and are learning. Making comments like those are not constructive.

Re: 2015 July/August Set 2

8/10
Difficulty: 55-57

A file that really succeeds at what it's attempting. It trims the fat off the v1 chart while keeping the main parts intact, and even manages to fix an oversight from the original chart near the start of the crazy jump runningmen, where near the end of the section there are additional notes unaccounted for in the original chart that are now distinguished by a switch from third notes to quarter notes.

6.5/10
Difficulty: 52-54

Very long song with quite a bit of repetition in the charting.

Critiques:
This is a minor nitpick, but some of the notes near the end half of the intro section aren't charted pitch-appropriately, where sometimes there's a distinct change in pitch that is represented by the same arrow previous.

These segments could be spiced up by charting the guitar in the background between the hands.

I think these sections really need to have the vocals layered into them as hands, otherwise they're really easy in comparison to the rest of the song.

This didn't seem to be an issue earlier in the song, but there are a lot of hands later on that don't sound like they should be anything more than jumps.

Positives:
-The intro was very well done.
-Though long, the song is good enough that I think this could work if the layering and charting was tweaked a bit.
-The song seems to be in sync quite well.
-Nothing frustrating and no massive difficulty spikes.

1/10

-Silence needs to be added to the start of the audio file. The first note of the song is cut off.
-Lots of major and abrupt BPM changes. This song sounds like it has a constant BPM. This needs to be the first thing to fix right after having the offset set before charting can even take place.
-There shouldn't be quads. Those should be only used for extreme circumstances in which there is maybe a very loud noise. One reason these are so frowned upon is that if you have a note closely following, it will make a jack since there's no free space to place the note to instead.
-Jumps and hands are overused. Jumps and hands should be used to emphasize distinct noises, not to make certain sections harder arbitrarily.

-Mostly all of the jacks I encountered in this song didn't seem appropriate, and many were way too fast to be justified.

I heard one note at this part.

Re: 2015 July/August Set 2

i just lost my entire post as i was typing this so i'll try to remember what went into it (editing locally this time)

Ashes to Ashes: 0/10 (incomplete as noted above)

- if you're only going to step so much of a song, be sure to cut the rest

d e a t h p i a n o (for four pianos) V2: 7/10

- so while it would be cool to have a more accessible chart for death piano, that also means you have to pick some pianos to step rather than all of them
- and unfortunately you confused me in some places by doing this
- m19: the 16ths are hard for me to pick up on here because what sounds most prominent seems to actually be more 12ths with an 8th inserted. if they're 16ths i don't think they're trilling the same way the 12ths are
- i think i had a note in between here but i forget what it was
- m48 is where things start to get real weird. whatever's playing the 16ths is very quiet, so i'm wondering if you were using these to actually approximate the 24ths seen in the original, in a more reasonable form. the loudest thing going on here is definitely purple. not sure how ffr feels about streams like this as a technique, but there's certainly enough going on in the song that i feel like a better choice could be made here
- m54 is especially wat because i cannot really hear anything playing 16ths that is trilling, but i do hear some ascending/descending 16ths - are you trying to ease what the 24ths of V1 would be doing?
- m56, though. many of the 16th bits feel like they get a late start, because in the fourth beat of each measure here (should be third music-wise, but you're a beat off in the chart thanks to earlier) the 12ths tend to die out in favor of 16ths. but all of those are stepped with 12ths instead of 16ths.
- rest of the chart is all right, since the song mainly repeats a part that's OK after that
- good foundation and some great ideas make for a fun and flowy chart, but i'm not sure that it's the best it could be in terms of instrumentation
- i listened on slower rates to try and figure out what was going on. 650~941 is a helpful iso for m48 onward, for the next person that comes along
- eta: i say "trilling" a lot but mostly i mean that to refer to how you stepped it, rather than what's happening in the song

Dragonsbane: 8.5*/10 (starred to check on sync)

- pretty fun boss stream file
- sync is noticeably off to me in the whole starting ~126bpm part; the arrows arrive late
- it's much improved for the rest of the song though
- the purple drum bits looked a little weird to me at first but they seem all right
- i can understand avoiding 3 note jacks at this difficulty level so those parts are cool too
- in game yes please

Pinkie Pie Loves Sugar: 1/10

- so contrary to what other people have said i'm pretty sure that your offset and BPM are actually pretty good. the 4ths seem to be coming in pretty accurate places
- unfortunately it seems like you stepped the file with autosync, which can work if you're super laser accurate with your timing, but here that's...not the case
- all of your notes appear to be red/blue/purple as well. purple notes are appropriate for when you have 3 notes per beat, but that's very much not the case in this song, except for maybe a few parts like the trilly fifths at 0:22
- not sure if you're working in SM or ddream. ddream for sure has two types of assist ticks that can help. one that you can toggle with F3 gives you a metronome click on each beat so you can check sync. the other toggles with F4 and gives you a clap on each note; those claps should line up with the sounds in the song you want to step, so that's how you can tell your notes are in the right place.

I am clueless as to whether I am allowed to post here or not but if I'm not just delete this :P.

I would like to thank all my judges for rating my lets be honest pretty bad file. It's my first attempt and it was a bad file, all my ratings were fair and I will use them when I try this again. It was a spam fest of me trying to make a extremely difficult file, and trying to get up on difficulty. It was probably a mistake to try such a hard fast song as my first file so I might come back on it later or right away if I get impatient. But again I appreciate every single one of your ratings (I don't know who made a "rude" comment but thank you too) and I would love to try and make a file again. If I am not allowed to post here just delete it and please private message me saying you deleted it. But again thank you, and I will be back, hopefully with a better file.

No worries, it's fine you posted here. If you wait a little longer you'll also see notes from one of the official judges which tend to be more detailed as they can go through the sm editor and look at things a bit more closely. We all start somewhere and I'm sure you're only going to get better at this :)

Re: 2015 July/August Set 2

TC_Halogen finished the primary judge task for July/August 2015 Set 2. The notes can be seen below; this thread is being moved over to Completed Sets and the results/notes will be updated in the July/August 2015 thread. This batch period is now complete.

[0/10] Ashes to Ashes {UNKNOWN} (M0nkeyz)
- incomplete file (see: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...60&postcount=2); notes to be provided upon request one the file is entirely completed or fixed to be a completed submission
Song artist not listed properly in SM file, which is grounds for rejection; ensure that proper metadata exists within the .sm file

[8/10] d e a t h p i a n o 'for four pianos' v2 {Xi} (hi19hi19)
- 13.328: I will forever make notes on people who accommodate for ascending scales as never-ending rolls aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
- 27.798/etc: while the 16ths do exist, the 12th notes are the prominent piano and it might be more sensible to create some light polyrhythms to give that slightly 'bouncier' feel
- 38.387: make the first note out of the trill the same as the trill to keep PR continuity
- 48.350: this particular mini-stream stands out to me because a lot of the notes are ambiguous to which piano are being followed as opposed to later instances (53.468 is ok)
- 68.821 to 77.291: don't agree with the piano playing 16ths to be followed, but the structure is sensible and has no errors
- 100.944: if you're going for harder piano chords, this one, among others: (106.062 [may be biproduct of layering], 108.709) should be removed
- 102.356: anchor to 3
- 118.591: anchor to 3
- 142.206: seems a bit erroneous; hard to discern the accent
- 145.735: see 48.350
- 152.441: check PR on chord as this one actually goes down
- that last trill is horribly hard to time lmfao
- solid chart; don't necessarily agree with the interpretation in spots but it does work

[7.5/10] Dragonsbane {Lorenguard} (hi19hi19)
- PR in intro could be improved a bit, particularly with string accenting and occasional lower guitar notes
- 92.563: snare being a triple is a bit glaring compared to the 8th before and after it which still have melodic components that could be leveraged in a way that keeps consistent layering
- 112.616: if 112.774 is a jump presumably for the lower guitar, then this one should be as well
- 145.932/(etc): jumps for snares
- 153.195: see 92.563
- 173.248: see 112.616
- 216.985: first two jumps could be realigned to better improve PR for the 12th notes
- 235.368: some slight patterning work can help improve PR from here to 237.304 (see: http://puu.sh/r1uu0/9122e5e933.png); same with 241.175
- 251.658: numerous snares with no jumps
- 317.304: add a grace note for the guitar note
- 331.307: remove jump, it stands out a bit strangely as there's numerous other snares
- 401.728: snares, etc
- 431.964: missing note for a tom hit here
- 436.464: given the attention to vocals, I feel like a single note should be placed here
- file's definitely done with the intent of being a bit more old-school with the classic, long index-friendly streaming
- stream patterns were a little dull after a while - this could be alleviated by keeping index-friendliness while manipulating patterns to still have some accenting power
- overall, not too bad but could use a bit more polishing.

[1/10] Pinkie Pie Loves Sugar {Foozogz} (manicpies898)
- follows submission guidelines, and therefore is ineligible for a 0 rating
- chart is unfortunately done using record mode, quantized to 24th notes and as a result, does not have a coherent structure or proper rhythms
- consider reading some guides on simfiling to actually make a chart for this!
