the bad dude isn't actually a bad dude and you just stopped him from defeating a worse dude
huge list of playable/supporting characters
extremely fucking contrived philosophical questions

you start off not thinking this game is going to be saving the earth/other planets/universe and then you end up doing that by the end

>protagonist is literally the only person that can save the world

>said protagonist is actually still a high school student

>protagonist's parents always have something to do with the plot

>protagonist always has a childhood friend of the opposite gender who totally has the hots for them but are completely oblivious to it

>protagonist has some kind of hidden special power that's revealed as a plot twist later

>the less clothes and skimpier the female's outfits, the better their stats are

>unnecessary belts and zippers EVERYWHERE for costume design

>regardless of whether the setting takes place in space and/or in the future where they have super advanced technology, you are still fighting with primitive swords

>the true antagonist, mastermind and boss of the game turns out to be the protagonist's friend

>IT WAS ALL A DREAM OR IT DIDN'T ACTUALLY HAPPEN

>using recovery items that are foods or liquids instantly in mid-battle. where does it all go and how did you use it instantly????????????

>there is always one enemy that does absolutely nothing during an encounter/battle

>final boss always has a secret hidden final form revealed after defeating them once

>not only do you gain exp from winning battles, you gain some sort of money. do monsters always carry money in their imaginary pockets????

>protagonist has some form of amnesia and regains memories as the game progresses

>protagonist always has a long lost sibling they never even knew about but conveniently meet later in the game

>female characters fighting while wearing high-heels

>pants don't exist for female characters

>super expensive weapons, armour, etc. are presented to you early on in the game, when you obviously CAN NOT afford to buy them. when you finally can afford to buy them, you get even better gear from chests and/or drops by that point

>random unopened chests around that only you notice and can open

>THERE'S ALWAYS A KING, QUEEN, OR RULER OF SOME SORT STARTING SHIT

>MOTHER FUCKING AIRSHIPS. I NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHY IT ALWAYS HAS TO BE A FUCKING SHIP THAT CAN FLY. JUST HOOK ME UP WITH A JET OR SOMETHING FAM

>reviving dead incapacitated characters by sleeping at an inn, hotel, motel, whatever the fuck

>mages and spellcasters only wear robes

>must defeat X character in order to gain some special skill. only then will you be allowed to progress with the game

protagonists often have some insane hairdos

weapons are frequently exaggerated in size and design but character is somehow able to still wield it very conveniently (see Cloud Strife)

eh... not too much of a jrpg trope guy,
but the tales series (tales of graces is my fave) is bombin

>half way through story you end up being sent to another universe parallel to your own, and at the cost of saving one, you destroy the other. you must find a way to save both

this happens in like every tales game

also, thanks to bmah i remembered this

>small character wielding the largest weapon
>main character doesn't really pay attention well and needs everything explained alot (llyod irving)
cause i'm the same way and i forget whats going on in the story
>you end up having to fight a god
>random legendary enemy encounter that's incredibly overpowered and wipes your team

super big-dick boss comes to terrorize your village by slapping it with his 50-foot cock and you level 10, 20, even 30 levels to beat this guy then walk about 2 villages away past some checkpoint that's been blocked off until now and there's regular enemy spawns of Red Jelly #2 and Killa Honeybee #5 who could have taken this guy out in an instant

literally your whole village could have suffered annihilation at the hands of Red Jelly #2's awesome malevolence

I absolutely hate this in both games and anime when I see it

Like ok some characters w / e

BUT WHEN IT'S ALL OF THEM.

No. It doesn't make that much sense.

meta conversations among the characters that relate to the creators feeling when making the game or interests in general, in an indirect way

multiple endings
second third fourth fifth sixth playthroughs
same game in a different perspective of another character

building relationships with characters often is done through talking to them only a few times over the course of the game

ability to revive someone after they've been petrified and then shattered

overtly homosexual character that is never called homosexual

always exactly one party member that isn't human

infinite amounts of enemies can be farmed without any harm coming to the environment of the surrounding area

always having to fight random water bosses

final boss has near infinite power, but you can rival this because you killed 300 basic dragon enemies in the room before his

final boss often toys with the world instead of destroying it, even though they seem so intent on doing so

at least one female party member has to get married, during the game or while the credits are rolling, and if its the latter they're probably pregnant as well

recurring merchants who have no weapons keep showing up in places that nearly killed you to get there without a scratch on them and with all wares in tact

no one is capable of defending themselves but your party members

I think bmah said it but the more unique your hair is, the stronger you are

main character has to dislike someone central to the plot with nothing more than a gut feeling

ability to steal items from monsters without them caring

I can't believe no one has mentioned the standing-around-waiting-for-each-side-to-make-their-move trope by now

always have to scour the entire fucking earth before you get to the postgame

UNLESS there's one blocked off island that you can't get to before that has the huge enemies

badass male characters have to have big swords

main character always grows as a person significantly by the end of the game

main character or some very important character is given the option to sacrifice themselves in order to save the world but other party members reject the idea

secret ultimate weapons that the temple in the starting town has but like arch said they can't defend themselves from jelly #5

summon-able creatures with limited/no backstory

always one boss/enemy that is in some way related to how many monsters you've killed

always one boss/enemy that is in some way related to how much money you have
