Planet of the Apes (original)
2001: A Space Odyssey

how into horror are you?

EDIT: Full Metal Jacket is the best war film
Lawrence of Arabia is the best movie ever made
Seven Samurai is a personal favorite of mine but is more... military strategy than "war"

I Am Legend
I, robot
Independence Day

The Host (2013) is somehow an unholy amalgamation of sappy romance and sci fi thriller

Books in general are better at the trope space I think you're looking for if that's a suggestion you're soliciting

books are just better than movies

The Things They Carried
Johnny Got His Gun (terrifying)
Starship Troopers
Demian (sort of?)

but the best military/post-apocalyptic story ever is Muv-Luv Alternative
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muv-Luv
I'm not being ironic, this is the most realistic war depiction and character study I've ever experienced

Blade Runner 2049 (Dystopian): One of those rare sequels that builds upon the source material without feeling like a rehash and you can watch it without knowing much of the first (though it helps)

Children of Men (Dystopian/War)

Apocalypse Now (Classic War movie)

Dunkirk (Pretty good recent War movie)

Looking forward to seeing 1917 when it comes out in theatres around my parts.

Brazil
Soylent Green
The Hurt Locker
Apocalypse Now
Black Hawk Down
Robocop
Logan's Run
Starship Trooper
Manchurian Candidate (both the OG one with Sinatra and the newer one with Denzel Washington)

I'll probably tack down more if I remember any more films that are worth recommending lmao.

Edit: Got more~ Asked peeps who have a catalogue of films to recommend c:

The Road Warrior
Mad Max: Fury Road
Six-String Samurai
Come and See, Baby!
Four Kings
Band of Brothers (Kinda cheating here but it's a really good one for a mini-series!)
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
Patton
Battle of the Bulge (owo)
Children of Men
12 Monkeys
Angel's Egg (if you also like artsy)
The Running Man
Stalker
Hell
Total Recall (the Original one, not the reboot)
Minority Report
Screamers
Bronx Warriors
Escape from Brooklyn
Escape from New York
Escape from Los Angeles

11/22/63 is a series based on a Stephen King novel, it's about an alternate history, has some very apocalyptic elements

Also Man in the High Castle. Another series but it's about an alternate history where the allies lost WWII. based on the book by Philip K Dick, very dystopian

Philip K Dick also wrote the book that Blade Runner was based on, so if you end up liking the film/TV adaptations maybe check out some of his novels as well.
