TC_Halogen’s Keysmash Refresher

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Keysmash Refresher tournament. Tournament activity has been rather sparse lately; with the announcement of the most recent Official Tournament batch being open and ready to go, I figured it’d be a fantastic opportunity to get everyone’s competitive gears rolling. Everyone needs a good refresher, and this is the chance to do it.

Scoring and Eliminations/Details
This tournament will be scored using FFR’s raw scoring system, and will be played entirely with official FFR files (no custom engines). Unlike traditional user tournaments on FFR, this tournament will be managed and run with the Tournament Dashboard; as a result, screenshots will not be required to obtain a score for a given round. However, it is highly recommended to save replays in the event of a technical issue involving score recording. If a score does not publish to the dashboard and a player does not possess a saved replay, it will not be validated.

The tournament will consist of eight rounds, starting at minimal difficulty for each division and will gradient upward as the tournament progresses. At the end of every round, eliminations will occur. Those who do not submit for a round will receive a score of negative infinity on their song. If multiple people have a score for negative infinity on any round, they will be placed into a random number generator to determine eliminations.

Divisions
The plan is to have 7 divisions for this tournament. However, if division sizes prove to be too small, then the number of divisions will shrink and the scaling of song difficulties/player placements in the given division will be scaled accordingly.

I will be basing decisions off of leaderboard rank/placement, individual level ranks, recent gameplays, known presence in other rhythm games, and off of all players within the tournament as a whole. Do not discuss incorrect divisional placements in the thread. Instead, private message me on FFR or send me a message on Discord -- I can be found on the FFR public discord, and I am open to direct messages from anyone.

Rules/Information
Sign-ups will be open until February 5th, 9:59 PM server time. The tournament will begin on February 7th, 9:59 PM server time. Rounds will be three days long unless noted otherwise.

1.) You must have a minimum of 250 games on your FFR account, spanning over at least 75 fully played songs, with an account age of at least 0.1 years. This is not only to ensure that alternate accounts don't raid the tournament, but also to ensure that I can make a proper placement based off of your level ranks. SIGN UP WITH YOUR MAIN ACCOUNT, or tell me the name of your main account if you're signing up on a less known account. I will contact a moderator if I think you're sharing an IP address of a well known account. If you enter using an alternate account without making a mention of it, you will be removed and will not be allowed in under any account.

2.) NO CHEATING. If at any point in the tournament I feel like you have used/abused any loophole, exploited any particular rule, played on someone else's account/had someone else play on your account, or have used other means to increase your scores, I will contact the appropriate staff to verify your gameplays. I reserve the right to request video proof for any user at any time.

3.) Be respectful to all other competitors in this tournament. Arguments will NOT be tolerated, and can result in immediate removal in the tournament.

4.) If you fail to submit for a prize round while still in the tournament, you will not receive your prize, and your prize will be passed down to the next place down! Top 5 in every division receives a prize.

Nope, because that 100% guarantees a higher chance of people not reading rules. I'd rather have more people who are coherent with what they're getting into and have a slightly lower user entry than have people who just skip over things.

Updated to this post. We're starting to get a bit closer to the start date of this tournament, so there might be some motion on the dashboard as I start analyzing the players.

Looking at the concentration of players and where they might end up, it's fairly likely this will not be a 7-division tournament. I'll keep you all posted as we get closer.

Just a reminder: sign-ups close at February 5th, at 10:59 PM server time. At that point, no additional sign-ups will be allowed.

Tentative structural change: as of this point, based off of the skill rating distribution of players and the differences in location for skill rating, this tournament will be compressed into a 5-division tournament with D1/D2 and D3/D4 combined into their own divisions, and D5 having a modified point of entry.

The current distribution of players simply looking at skill rating at the moment is as follows:

[95] D7+ = 13
[83] D6 = 16
[69] D5 = 20

[59] D4 = 13
[50] D3 = 9

[26] D2 = 9
[0] D1 = 5

The range from D3 to D5 is incredibly vast and generally flexible in terms of difficulty with regards to songs, and the gap between D3 and D4's entry point are much too tight to justify a division of their at this point. Additionally, two of the D1 players are likely to be removed from the tournament as a result of not fulfilling the minimum requirements of the tournament as well.

The dashboard has been changed to 5 divisions as of this time. Some shifting may occur on the borders of each skill rating as I see fit with leaderboard rankings and not qualifying but notable scores on level ranks.

EDIT: tl;dr - tourney is now 5 divisions: D7 -> D5, D6 -> D4, D5 -> D3, D3/D4 -> D2, D1/D2 -> D1, with shifting as necessary
