Re: How to get better at FFR
Alright, I'm going to swallow my nonexistent pride and post in this thread.
[I play ASKL, been thinking of moving to ASL; or QWOP, something a little easier on me.] I read this for the first time about a month before I joined. I noticed "full combo a Very Challenging song." I have kept this in my head for the past 2 years, and I've only done it once. And I found the lightdarkness engine a few hours after it went up, so it can't be because the site was down. The only reasonable cause is mental blocks. On like 3 separate occasions I have all but FC'd Silence, Kick Your A, whatever, and then my flexors suddenly quit because I realized I was going to FC a 10-footer. I've seen the don't-think-about-it technique, and it helps to a point, but it doesn't work completely; I've masked everything, and that helps a lot, but the mentality isn't there. And I've been trying to accomplish something that I'm perfectly capable of for about two months, nonstop. It took me about a month to get the basics of differential calculus completely figured out, to put it in perspective. My speed is fine, my PA is decent, but my heart just isn't in it. That's the reason I quit competitive MK time trialing, right there. I don't want FFR to go the same way, since I'm perfectly interested in it. And to be honest, I spend every waking hour that I possibly can sitting in front of a computer, typing on a keyboard. So, with regards to the psychological part of the game, 1.) Am I just trying too hard and being impatient? 2.) Or is there something I'm missing? Help a moderately experienced player that feels like a noob out here. |
Re: How to get better at FFR
Play insanely stupid hard songs like Eclipse, whore Grand Gallop Chromatique, whore Molto Vivace, maybe some One Minute Waltz..
the notes don't give you time to think, and your brain will adapt to it and voila, you'll be FCing FMOs and AAAing them too |

Re: How to get better at FFR
This entire thread is unhelpful
People will blatantly ignore advice that *actually helps*. Playing stuff over and over again will only help you so much. |
Re: How to get better at FFR
I have about 5 months of rythme games experience. So I might not be the best person to give advice, but judging from the fact that I'm actually in D4 in the Xmas tournament, I think I'm eligible of giving some advice.
1. DO NOT START with F*%$#$! hard songs. 2. Go for accuracy first, THEN, speed. 3. once you have made yourself a master at precision, work on your speed 4. now that you have the speed, start mastering different patterns (streams, trills, jacks, etc.) 5. Remember, start with the easiest songs, (I used to play SM, that's why I'm not playing lvl 1-5 songs right now) 6. PLAY SPREAD (2 hands) 7. try mirror at times to give yourself a challenge, it's like sightreading. |

=== How to get better at FFR ===
1. Google BMS Starter Pack 2. Download it 3. Play it for 5 years 4. Wreck FFR |
Re: How to get better at FFR
Honestly, I do agree with OHN with that. I know I whored friggin GGC/MV/OMW/etc. over and over to get my reading ability up. What many people aren't saying much is that if you get your reading ability to what its potential is, you won't have a problem as much. Your fingers will kindly fall into place.
Personally, I didn't care about accuracy when I first started, just play the song and go for the FC first .... that way you know you can actually do it then go to the accuracy. I mean, get SOME accuracy off the bat but, no need to AAA Power/Free Space/Excite Bike RIGHT off the bat get used to different speeds and difficulties but always player harder songs more. |
