Pokémon Legends: Arceus

What do you think about the game? No spoilers please lol

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus

It's not what I wanted.

But it is something I didn't know would be as good as it is.

I'd like to see large portions of the changes from this game, incorporated to the main games, because that'd be a lot more fun for an actual game.

The game play is pretty stretched. If someone told me this game was meant to be a proof of concept, I'd say they did a good job, it's a solid concept.

The short hand is, if you're looking for a bit of a time sink, and a fairly refined game, you're gonna like this. If you're looking for deep competitive combat where you fight lots of trainers, you will like it less. But if you're willing to set that aside, it's not awful.

It's still a game that a company like GameFreak could have done better.

I'd give it a fairly high end 7 / 10. Where for reference, SW/SH are maybe a 4 / 10, Sun And Moon are about a low 6 / 10, X/Y are a low 6, and Black/White 2 (What I'd say are the best games) are about a 9.

Edit because clarifying something: I went into this game expecting it to be fucking terrible. I'm happy it's as good as it is.

Meh. It's fine I guess. I would personally give it a 5/10. I feel like despite the fact that it's nice that they innovated with it, they removed too much of the old, solid features imo. The difficulty curve is wack. The story has quite a lot of things being just "there", unexplained (although many pkmn games do that).

Overall, I'm enjoying beating the game (and post-game content), but I certainly wouldn't play it again once I've done that.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Pros:

It's an actual game with fun mechanics and not just a cash grab from Gamefreak

The soundtrack has a nice nostalgic yet new feel to it that I like

The characters have more expressions than ever and it makes them feel more alive.

There is an actual difficulty in the game that challenged me.

The new forms of Pokemon are amazing. I especially love the new Decidueye and Growlithe forms.

The Pokemon themselves actually have more animations. It's more lively for sure.

Cons:

There are not enough Pokemon in it. Seriously, what is with this in modern Pokemon games and why are some of them locked behind having save data of other Switch titles?

I hate it when you get to the edge of any map and a dense fog overtakes everything? I'm trying to look for wisps dangit, let me see.

There is not enough game. Sure it's fun, but I completed the entire thing within a very short period of time.

Conclusion:

I love this game and I will say without a doubt in my mind that this is the single best Pokemon Switch title, with the only other game even coming close to comparing was New Pokemon Snap which is a miracle of a game that really cant be beat. It does have it's issues of course like all games, but honestly my bar was so low for Gamefreak that all they really needed to do was make a game that was fun or had all the Pokemon in it. One of those things would satisfy me and satisfy me they did. Just wish there was more to it.

Been watching my wife play it - agreed with some of the others that the mechanics (though somewhat hard to pick up) are pretty fun as a concept and the game was enjoyable.

She complained constantly about the hand-holding through the game - she was feeling like the majority of the game's storyline was a tutorial almost. I think really we were just spoiled with how much we loved Breath of the Wild and how free you are in that game - something that you don't really get in Arceus until you've completed the main storyline, really.

Overall would recommend but just have an open mind about it.

I have mixed feelings
I can definitely say I want another legends game in the future but that's the only definite thing

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus

I think Pokémon has more bad features than good qualities in general, but aside from that, I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally enjoy the more real time action moments. I finished it a couple days ago, I just need to get the last few remaining Pokémon and to get their entries to level 10 (ew), and I'm not sure if I'm gonna bother.

Pls have more Pokémon games like this.

What was the paywall in pkmn sw:sh ?

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus

owning both sw and sh? they've always had pokes unavailable unless you got the other game or traded with other people. can never solo 100% on a single pokemon game.

Hmmm, although I get your point, I feel like that's less of a paywall than legends of arceus.

In swsh, I completed all 3 pokedex relatively simply; it's expected to be able to find people with the other version eventually when trading.

In LoA, that's not the case. You Must have the 2 previous games (sw or sh + diamond/pearl remake) or a friend with those to complete the pokedex. That's pretty damn shitty imo, and worse than the trading paywall you're referring to. It's even worse when you consider the fact that THEY ACTUALLY REMOVED THE TRADING PAYWALL lmfao, and added this one instead. I see people be like "wow it's so cool you can now get all evolutions without trades" but they don't see this new horrible paywall of "own previous games" (ala Call or Duty style).

Understandable. I think both the systems are shitty and the game should be able to stand on its own with the ability to 100% it. No other games or other people needed. But oh well, that's the direction game companies are taking nowadays.

Wanna complete everything? Better whip out mommy's credit card KIIIID. But yeah, fuck paywalls lol

Also I was told pkmn diamond/pearl remakes aren't good (??). That certainly makes me upset when thinking about maybe buying it for 1 single pokemon...

YOU DO NOT NEED TO CATCH THE
BONUS MYTHICAL POKEMON
TO COMPLETE THE POKEDEX

Well that entirely depends on your definition of pokedex completion

You don't literally have to catch them all.

It's fine if that's how you play, but you cant assume it's how others play. I like to 100% my games. And this game is asking me to own 2 other games to 100% it.

I am here to be the very best, like no one ever was. At least 150 or more to see, to be a Pokemon master is my destiny.
