The BMS/IIDX Thread
We should have some activity going on in here since a (...handful...) of people play these and partially because KBO forums died..
Placeholder text until a more in-depth guide is written. In the mean time, feel free to ask questions, post scores, videos, help out etc. What is IIDX? IIDX is a Konami rhythm game for both arcade and console [PS2] play, utilising 7keys and a turntable. Plastic and custom-made controllers are available if you're playing at home. What is BMS? BMS (Be-Music Script) is a file format like .sm files, but in general we refer to it as the simulator game for IIDX 7key (like how sm is to DDR). Some simulators include ruvit/rhythm-it and LunaticRave 2 [LR2], the latter which is often used as it submits scores to an online Internet Ranking [IR] system. Even Stepmania 5 can play BMS files! (Actually, older SM versions could read BMS too...) ================================================== To play IIDX at home, ideally you need a PS2 and a 7k controller. You can play with a PS2 controller but its going to be really awkward... To play BMS, you can use any BMS simulator with a keyboard, or a 7k controller connected to the PC using a PS2>USB converter. ================================================== Downloads Lunatic Rave 2 ruv-it! Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
I guess for starters, as of now, IIDX 20 Tricoro was just released in the arcades two days ago.
You can view a good amount of new songs from this youtube user: http://www.youtube.com/user/gett1032 I can't wait to hear clearer tracks of the songs. Quote:
I didn't know this! |
Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Vaguely related, I'm thinking about writing a program to convert .ftm (Famitracker's file format) into bms (so you can make a keysounded chart out of it). If I need beta testers or if I finish I will post again :D

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
Hey Longgone. Doorknob here. Shame KBO died when interest in BMS has been picking up again.
In a related news, BOF2012 will be open in a few weeks. Details on the page here: http://manbow.nothing.sh/event/event.cgi |

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
That ruv-it! looks pretty. After getting the hang of it, I might make a tutorial on how to use it though if anyone's interested.
On the other hand, here's me playing LR2 about half a year ago lol Quote:

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
I could always give some kind of controller tutorial. Too bad no one gives tutorials on getting a bit better lol

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
+1 to this thread.
Also, does anyone here play doubles (14 keys) with IIDX controllers? It feels like my skill has stagnated for several months, and I'd love some advice. |
Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread

Re: The BMS/IIDX Thread
The kind of advice I'm looking for is how to build hand speed. I've seen plenty of videos where the player is required to perform short sections of stream or jumpstream on both hands simultaneously - I have trouble doing that even in 7 keys (playing one-handed).
I know the obvious answer is "practice more" - but for all the hours I've put into BMS, I feel like my improvement is woefully small. Maybe there's something I'm doing wrong? I dunno. |

If your problems with those patterns is executing them as opposed to a reading problem, then I don't have many suggestions for you. One thing I will suggest though is to be flexible - do not assign each of the 7 keys to a particular finger. Overlap, use other fingers (e.g. I can use my thumb for both the 1 and 3 keys), do whatever you need to do to reach those keys. Another thing to be aware of when doing chordstream is to be aware of how far apart the keys are on your controller. They tend to be spaced out further than it is convenient to hit. Overall, my suggestion has less to do with physically making your hands go faster, but rather know strategically where to place your fingers with those patterns. |
