PSP. Better graphics, and doesnt look like something you get out of a McDonald's happy meal (like the DS does).

Besides, I am not a fan of Nintendo.

knuckles 06-26-2004 06:46 PM

Better graphics usually doesn't mean a better console.

SNES > N64

:D

I can't wait to pick up a DS when it comes out. Going to be really expensive, for me, though. :?

There's something about the DS that turns me off...not sure what it is though. The PSP, on the other hand, looks like it'll kick some major ass.

knuckles 06-26-2004 06:58 PM

The PSP turns you on? Weird.

Nah, but I like the concept of two screens... It might sound a little far-fetched, but who knows, it might turn out to be incredibly useful? Oh, and I think the touch screen capability is kind of pushing it... cool, but not needed. Hope it comes with the little pen thingy, because I don't like finger smudges on my screen.

DS is obviously the better system.

PSP is just another horrible piece of garbage handheld that will be dominated immediately.

Only Nintendo can make a good handheld.

Ya know, there was already a handheld with touchscreens. It was called the Game.com, and it sucked ass.

And Moogy may have a point, but then again, kind of not. Nintendo has always dominated the handheld market, and for good reason. But if you look back, Nintendo used to be the dominant console, but better things came along and now Nintendo consoles suck (IMO). They may be dethroned again, you never know.

And I don't know enough (or any) about either to make a judgement call. I don't stay well informed about anything.

Disc Read Error Part 2 OMFG. Hi PSP!

OMG I dropped my PSP. **** it stopped reading the CD! Edit: Wait, I haven't saved my game too... Does that mean I gotta start over?

Now to take one thing seriously (though all the things above are true also): Memory Stick? Well, that means more random formatting again. If it hadn't happened to you, when your memory card gets formatted, all your files will be erased and never to return. I might have same experiences with the PSP, and it WILL be more prone to that because it's a portable. And formatting is just random, but especially when you maltreat the device itself. Bottom line, I'm never buying the PSP, even when the Disc Read Error phenomenon stops after a year PSP got released.

Nintendo DS is obviously my choice. No competition.

Kagome 06-26-2004 08:18 PM

DS.
Moogy is right.

dmleet 06-26-2004 08:29 PM

Evilpeer, to support your claim, I do agree that Nintendo has been dominated when it comes to the console wars. Ever since N64, Nintendo has fallen apart as PSX has ruled that era. I believe that the only console making them alive now is their Game Boy and its evolutions. IIRC even XBox has surpassed Gamecube sales in all but Japan. It's quite funny. But I'm really loyal to their portables (and I never bought Gamecube and N64 any way).

I've been to some gaming forums, and people commonly mention that Nintendo has been targetting the wrong audience: way too much kids, and less mature players. It's true. This time Nintendo should get the attention of older gamers. Why? Kids can never buy their own console and games. They have to ask their parents to buy one for them. So less units are sold.

Idiot.

Graphics aern't everything.

The DS is about 80 times more innovative than the PSP.

PSP:"Hey I have good graphics and online capability...PLAY ME"

DS:"Hey I have online capability, innovative games, two screens, a chat program, a fucign stylus, and a bunch of developers ungry to develop for me"

Omeganitros 06-26-2004 08:38 PM

This thread does not need to exist until they both come out and become truly comparable.

Specs for both systems were already out, so criticisms can be made. The only thing we can't talk about yet is the sales. But we do have their prices. Last time I saw, PSP will be worth more than $200 (may not be more than $250), and DS will cost $150, only a $50 increase compared to the GBA SP.

NaOTa4231 06-26-2004 08:52 PM

nintendo always kicks ass when it comes to portables. I expect only the best from the DS so i have to go w/ Nintendo DS. Plus it will have mario and zelda!!!!

dmleet 06-26-2004 08:56 PM

I will admit though, the line-up of PSP games were more impressive than DS, IMO. I might only buy Metroid along with the portable. But then I got a ton of GBA games so I don't have to worry (DS is backwards compatible, and PSP isn't just because it's the first Sony portable).

Chromer 06-26-2004 09:06 PM

Well It all depends. I mean as good as the GBA SP sold, It was just a regular GBA with a crappy front backlight. w00t Now the PSP on the other hand, has graphics that rival the PS2 in handheld power. Can the DS do that? I dont think so. And besides the PSP can hold music and play movies. Touch-Screen? Please.
