What speed do you play in and why?

I have looked at a couple threads on this discussion to find that most people play at 1.5 speed or 2.35, which BLOWS me away because I find the notes are Too bunched up together and slow

Am I doing something wrong? Should I avoid fullscreen if I slow down my speed? Also my FPS is at 200 and changing it hasn't impacted much.

If you guys are wondering my comfortable speed it's about 2.65-2.8 which some people say is fast... I'm just curious as I want to read the notes better because the highest I've been able to do for awhile'ish is Very Challenging up to 65. (With some parts mashing)

Edit: I might need to experiment more, but 2.4-2.6 might be somewhere good for me.

At framerates above 60fps you can start to get some issues in having flash actually process your inputs properly, so you might want to consider trying 55 or 59fps which seem to be magic numbers for some people.

As for scroll speed, it is a very subjective and personal thing. Generally speaking, the higher skill rating you are, the higher you are apt to want the speedmod in order to process the patterns cleanly, by spreading them out.

I play on 2.2 IIRC

Edit: Looking at your stats, while you are passing songs up in the 60s, your skill rating for getting really good clean scores looks to be more in the 35-40 range, so you might actually get better results working on overall accuracy on songs in the 43-53 range for now rather than try to push your way into passing even harder songs. Working on building good muscle memory and pattern recognition on songs you can SDG or at least cleanly FC with no misses or boos prepares you better for harder songs than working on passing songs you can't read cleanly and execute cleanly.

2.5 because people peer pressured me that 2x was too slow

3x-4x usually, depends on the song

2.72 because i read it gud

but if YOU read your speed fine thats what you should stick with. 2.65-2.8 isnt fast at all and its very normal

Re: What speed do you play in and why?

personally i play somewhere between 2.8-3 Generally i think its the fastest speed you can comfortably read is the best one to go with. Its also worth playing with the size of the notes and spacing of the receptors. If you need to slow down the speed of the notes, but still think they are too clumped up, making the notes smaller can really help.

2.8.

Used to play on 2.6 for the longest time, but started to get really good accuracy so I swapped to 2.8 and somehow D7'd. Been 2.8 since. 3.0 is poop accuracy for me.

I'm gonna give you a hot tip: it doesn't matter, play what's most comfortable for you. Players at the top level for this game use vastly different scroll speeds. There are other factors which help influence what speed works best for you.

Fwiw I use 2.1-2.3, which are pretty slow scroll speeds, but I look directly at the receptors when I'm playing. There are other players around my skill level that use speedmods above 3, who likely look much lower than I do. It's really just personal preference, your scroll speed isn't a limiting factor to how well you can play unless you're using something that isn't working for you personally.

Re: What speed do you play in and why?

2.65 i believe. i played a bit faster on legacy engine but its impossible on AIR haha

But yeah, what OWA said. speed doesnt matter, just find a comfortable speed and get used to it. Haku and others play songs above 80 rating on 1 speed so its possible if you learn to read it. It takes time for sure no matter what speed you use but its worth it in the end!

For me, I play on 2.25 because it feels like a good balance for me and one I'm most used to.

Re: What speed do you play in and why?

I play with 2.94, but my scroll speed has fluctuated quite a bit since I started playing.

To add to what others have said, don't feel compelled to stay stuck at a particular speed. Your comfort zone might change depending on your experience and how you feel that day when you play.

Also try with messing with the judge offset in the game settings. Judge offset helps a ton with improving accuracy! Turn the 'Auto' option on so that the judge offset can be automatically adjusted to your precision, general accuracy and the songs you play.

Re: What speed do you play in and why?

Between 2.3 and 2.6 depending on what I'm playing.

Re: What speed do you play in and why?

Thanks ya'll, I have the auto option turned on for judging. So in the end I will stick to what is comfortable, I will play more easier songs although I do balance the difficulty I play and keep replaying the harder songs on occasion until I get better! As for my framerate, it hasn't caused any judging problems.

For more info, I've been using the R^3AIR.exe Client to play maximized. ^_^

I use 2.6 scroll speed and have been told in some cases my speed is too slow x) like everyone says though just use what is comfortable for you

Re: What speed do you play in and why?

consider that it also depends on ur visual settings and note skin and stuff... i use higher speed but i also use smaller notes/receptors, so its not as fast as it'd normally be with default settings

for example hakulyte has an alt http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/profile/hakue where he only uses speed mod x1 lol, and hes like D6 on it with 1377 AAAs, so it really depends on ur preference and settings (also he uses screen cut a tonnn when he 1x which sort of gives the effect of a higher speed)

Re: What speed do you play in and why?

I'm d6 level 90 and I play with 1.25-1.3 scroll speed.

I use a high screencut though so it's basically like hitting notes off reflex.

Re: What speed do you play in and why?

I use 2.8x, It kinda translated over from me using 26-28 on osu!mania to being the right scroll speed for me.

I seriously don't understand how people can play at stuff below 2 or even 2.2 especially at a high level, its literally just a screen filled with 100 notes 3 pixels apart

Re: What speed do you play in and why?

Anything goes once you memorize all the notes.

Apparently I was using 3x the last time I played.

Back in the day there was no scroll speed, you had to get used to it or not play ;)
Screencutting makes it wayyyyyyyyy more tolerable though.
