Dominion Thread

It's a card game

a deck-building card game

it's kinda fun

general info:
https://www.thespruce.com/how-to-pla...c-rules-410896
(rules and info. note: game can be expanded to up to 6 players while still being comfy)

http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Main_Page
(card info and such)

Anyways occasionally some people here get together and play Dominion on Tabletop Simulator (game on steam). It's pretty fun. Figured that since I think (hope!!!) this will become a regular thing, it may be good to make a proper thread for it.

I'm gonna be posting the logs of it here in this thread, of course welcome to any general discussion of Dominion too.

If anyone wants to join in, message me here, on discord (Celirra#4125) or steam (http://steamcommunity.com/id/celirra); I will say that voice chat makes it a lot more fun for everyone involved if it's possible, too. You don't really have to know ahead of time how to play, it's not terribly difficult.

also shoutout to Raeko for introducing me to Dominion

Dominion deck used:

Cellar (2)
Village (3)
Harbinger(3)
Bureaucrat (4)
Militia (4)
Throne Room (4)
Remodel (4)
Festival (5)
Bandit (5)
Market (5)

Notes:
Bandit and militia make games very long; Bureacrat did not get much use. Also, 5 people in this game likely didn't help with the length much either. It was a fun gimmick-y game though, a good lighthearted way to get into Dominion, in that way at least.

Dominion deck used:

Chapel (2)
Smugglers (3)
Village (3)
Warehouse (3)
Vassal (3)
Island (4)
Market (5)
Merchant Ship (5)
Tactician (5)
Council Room (5)

Notes:
This was a fun and quick game, though chapel was useless (keep chapel only if curses are in play). Vassal in particular was good; smugglers is pretty meme-tier early game. Council Room + Tactician is a fun combo.

Dominion deck used:

Cellar (2)
Oasis (3)
Workshop (3)
Moneylender (4)
Throne Room (4)
Noble Brigand (4)
Inn (5)
Library (5)
Margrave (5)
Highway (5)

Notes:
Lurker found this on a strategy wiki, and it was pretty good. Premade decks definitely have good potential. Cards like Inn and Library have potential to cheese a result so it's somewhat less luck driven, which is an interesting notion. Highway was also really powerful.

Dominion deck used:

Lighthouse (2)
Fishing Village (3)
Warehouse (3)
Bishop (4)
Monument (4)
Worker's Village (4)
Vault (5)
Explorer (5)
Outpost (5)
Grand Market (5)

Played with 12x of platinum and colony

Notes:
Vault flat-out didn't get used. Platinum and Gold combined with something akin to bishop makes the game totally different, and a non-attacking style makes the game quickly get out of hand with how many high numbers there are.

Dominion deck used:

Embargo (2)
Pearl Diver (2)
Ambassador (3)
Vassal (3)
Remodel (4)
Poacher (4)
Wharf (5)
Bazaar (5)
Market (5)
Artisan (6)

Notes:
Embargo is a pretty interesting card, though in this game it was irrelevant other than the +2 coin on use. Ambassador saw no use at all, very situational card. Poacher proved to be the MVP of this game, with honourable mention to Wharf. I'm personally very fond of Vassal, it's a really strong and fun card if you get lucky with it. Also, Artisan wasn't nearly as useful as I anticipated.

I take it this game is better with smaller groups?

I dunno about another 3 hour game tho

3 or 4 is the magic number for sure; the game you played with us was unfortunate too because it had a lot of mechanics to slow down the game (pretty much everyone only ever had 3 cards in hand at a time with no + card draws which made the game stagnate). It really is much better than the game you played with us, I promise. Hope you come out again sometime soon! It's usually around an hour per game, give or take 15-30mins depending on setup I'd say.

oh shit i played dominion before it's a great game with 4 people

Re: Dominion Thread

Dominion is a pretty cool game. One hour is still pretty long for a match but that isn't so surprising playing with newcomers.

Re: Dominion Thread

3 or 4 is ideal for Dominion. if we have 6, better to do two 3 player games than a 6 player game. IRL the game isn't quite an hour but everything takes longer in tabletop sim

Dominion deck used:

Chapel (2)
Moat (2)
Village (3)
Vassal (3)
Smithy (4)
Militia (4)
Witch (5)
Festival (5)
Mine (5)
Council Room (5)

Played with:
Lurker (Winner), Storn, Celirra

Notes:
Pretty meme setup with all the used actions and card draws and action spams. I think Village + Festival + Vassal is overkill. Mine didn't get much use, likely due to all the free + coins. Also, moat is incredibly powerful.

Dominion deck used:

Lurker (2)
Masquerade (3)
Swindler (3)
Shanty Town (3)
Diplomat (4)
Conspirator (4)
Bridge (4)
Torturer (5)
Upgrade (5)
Courtier (5)

Played with:
Sunfan, Lurker (Winner), Storn, Celirra

Notes:
Purely intrigue deck. Bit of a tough game with a lot of neat gimmicks; masquerade has potential to really throw a wrench in the works, Swindler is luck dependent, and Lurker is one of few good cheap cards. Only upgrade got next-to-no use. All around a pretty good game.

Dominion deck used:
Crossroads (2)
Oasis (3)
Tunnel (3)
Oracle (3)
Jack of all trades (4)
Nomad Camp (4)
Mandarin (5)
Cartographer (5)
Embassy (5)
Inn (5)

Played with:
Lurker, Storn, Raeko, Celirra (Winner)

Notes:
Lots of gold in this game; tunnel turned out to be a really fun card. Crossroads is really strong early on, and doesn't fall off terribly hard late-game either. Mandarin allows for some really interesting strategy, which is swell if not too cheesy.

Storeroom (3)
Market Square (3)
Hermit (3)
Fortress (4)
Rats (4)
Wandering Minstrel (4)
Death Cart (4)
Counterfeit (5)
Catacombs (5)
Junk Dealer (5)

Played with:
Lurker, Storn, Thesunfan, Celirra (winner)

Notes:
lol rats
Entirely dark ages, and built around the trash mechanic. Was a fun game, lots of gold in the game as a whole. Wandering Minstrel didn't get much use, and market square sold out super fast and was very useful as a whole.

Re: Dominion Thread

I have issues with Dominion because the deck is self-shuffled and most people don't shuffle sufficiently and shitty shuffling is, or has been, a pet peeve of mine, I guess if its not played in person this isn't an issue

I can totally see that, and yes playing online instead of in person helps alleviate this issue quite well.
