Suggestions to improve the user experience

Hello

I have a couple of minor ideas that could improve the game, well at least so I think, and decided to share them with the rest of the community, and hopefully, someone who decides to bring my ideas to the game.

Anyways, I'll make a little list of the improvements I think would do the game good:

1. In multiplayer, a function to click the other players song in order to load it yourself would be very useful, and I see no reason why this has not been implemented already. As minor as it is, I think it would be a good improvement to the overall multiplayer experience.

2. A "Favourites" genre, where you could add your favourite songs. Obviously this would have to be a genre private to your own account, with links / shortcuts to songs you've saved in it. Again, this is all userability, and does not alter the gameplay.

3. A "Tutorial" genre, which stores songs specifically made to repeat certain patterns and techniques, or even songs specifically made for certain styles. This suggestion would be significantly more troublesome to add than the previous ones, but personally I think its a good idea that would help the beginner / intermediate levels alot. Maybe even the higher level players.
I'm aware that this would require alot, especially all the additional simfiles and so on, it might be an unrealistic idea coming from a normal user like myself, but I decided to include it anyways.

That's me done, for now at least. I hope to see some of these suggestions implemented into the game in the future.
Thanks for taking the time to read my suggestions. :)

1.) Agreed greatly, and other users have suggested it, so you're definitely thinking on the right track. :)

2.) Somewhat agreed, and this has also been suggested a lot. The way your idea is structured is actually very nice, too. I wonder if I can possibly add onto this:

- would it be possible to make have this custom genre use an external file to add an .xml for the genre, similar to the way that FFR loads the songs? Because the songs all have a specific level number, you'd only have to reference that particular one...

...then again, there is the in-game song list, which makes the purpose of having a favorites genre a bit pointless.

3.) While I like the premise of this idea, FFR does have a large amount of songs, all of which stress different techniques and aspects. Because of how extensive the song list is, making these practice levels would be, as you said - a bit impractical. It's not a bad idea, but more so one that isn't necessary.

Nice list, though.

1. I amongst others have suggested this. It's a fantastic idea, and it would simplify things greatly.

2. This was almost implemented back in '07 or '08. I even still have a screenshot from when the graphic was in place (but it didn't do anything)

3. There used to be a tutorial on the multiplayer interface, but that video seems to be no longer available. I did make a sticky however that teaches most if not all of the basic patterns and terminology here.

Yeah there is the in-game songs list, but when the number of favourite songs that you'd like to practice / enjoy playing starts building up, the in-game songs list starts becoming impractical. Again, its not a matter of lack of functionality; Its rather a suggestion how to improve the userability. :)

We could also build up on the idea, allowing personal custom genres, where you could make your own "playlists", for example one for songs you enjoy playing, one for storing songs that you need to practice and build on, and so on... This would also cover the 3rd suggestion about tutorial genres, in a simple and userfriendly way.

With a little work, I think this could prove to be a pretty cool addition to the game. :)

And thanks for the constructive reply!
After all, it takes more than one point of view for a great idea to be born :)

Well as far as MP goes, you can just click that little S at the top left, and type in the first few letters of the song and search. Makes it a little faster, but your idea would be pretty nice.

A favorites would be nice, I generally just keep a notepad/pen handy and leave song names / notes about what I like about that particular song.

And someone needs to make a thread about songs that are good for certain patterns. I'd love to have a list of stream/jump/jack heavy songs.

The MP engine doesn't have search.

I think I know a way to do Favorite, along with the MP select song.

FFR should update its entire interface with a better layout, engine, fps and fixed timing windows.

It will never happen but yep.
