Zag's Creature Creation Request!

I need some help designing creature species for a game design I'm working on, and I was interested in seeing what our local artists could come up with. Absolutely anyone can post their designs, you don't have to be artistically inclined or be one to consider yourself creative. I really don't care what kind of stuff I get, I just need inspiration and ideas! The incredibly practised artists can go ahead and blow my mind, if you are so inclined, but I'm not requesting anything that takes hours.

All prized are out of my unedited/legit credit account.
Credit Prizes:
1k for acceptable entries
5k for exceptional entries
25k for mind blowing entries (you can opt out of prize)

All entries will receive credit for their contribution if their ideas are used.

Accepted
noname219 - Post - 4,000 credits awarded.

Criteria
1) Must NOT be humanoid!
2) Must NOT have wings!
3) Must NOT rely on the sun directly! (Don't read into this one too much, just no solar panels.)
4) The races will be in an environment where digging is impossible.
5) Environments are extreme. Severe heat, severe moisture, water, magma, complete darkness, utterly barren and dry, etc... Many areas are filled with thick fog which cannot be seen through (or breathed) conventionally, others are filled with water or magma.
6) Scanned &/or photographed work is acceptable, as well as digital work as well! Feel free to paint if you wish. :3

Be creative, think about what I've suggested and go absolutely wild!

Please and thank you! If you have any questions, or bizarre ideas, please just post!

If I take inspiration from your contribution, I will credit you!
And if your creation gets me money at any point in the future, I will be sure to track you down and pay you in thanks! ^^

Additional Info
- Abundance of H20 in vapour and liquid.
- Oxygen density is normal.
- Very little foliage, but loads of moss, lichen, and aquatic plant life.

----

If you can't think of anything, use the following guidelines.

All creatures live in caves.

1) A creature which lives in high density fog.
- Imagine that the creature lives in a landlocked cloud. (Extraordinarily saturated.)
- Temperatures vary from warm to very intense heat, creature need protection from scalding water vapour.
- Moisture is a problem, the creature must be able to deal with the ridiculous amount of liquid.
- Does the creature breath? If yes, how does it deal with the water? If no, how does it sustain itself?
- Organic structure cannot be composed of water vapour or fluid/jelly/frozen water, at all. Do not include it. (You get the point.)

2) A creature which lives around massive amounts of metals.
- Temperatures are extremely high. Cannot survive in anything below a very high threshold of heat.
- Air is saturated with toxins, ash, and residue from molten materials.
- Creature can live in molten metal/rock/minerals.
- Breathing is not necessary for this creature when it is submerged in magma.
- Organic structure cannot be composed entirely of metals/rock.

3) A creature which lives in an incredibly cold environment.
- Temperature is extremely low. Cannot survive in temperatures above freezing.
- Creature can mould ice using untitled power.
- Go wild with how it generates energy. (Pick anything you like. It's up to you. It needs something though, pick one or design your own. You do not have to pick a standard method.)
- Organic structure cannot be composed entirely of ice.

4) Amphibious mid temperature creature.
- Standard amphibious creature as you might see today.
- Temperature range is standard. -20 to +50. (Celsius) Not an extremophile.
- Not necessarily reptilian or mammalian, or anything that exists. Combine them, or invent something.
- Must eat, breath, and see with eyes.
- No limitations to it's organic structure, go wild. (Remember the temperature ranges.)

A few questions:

1. What's the oxygen density in this world?
2. Is there foliage?

I added some more details for you. :)
Thanks for asking.

You should clarify in the op you're designing racers not races, the whole post threw me off lmao

What? I'm asking for species concepts. I'll fix that up.

Anyone? ^^

narrowing down the scenarios/environments/traits of a creature to a list or something will help people create creature concepts ;) It's better to have a general direction than to be thrown in the deep having no idea what to create for what purpose

Re: Zag's Creature Creation Request!

Okay, I'll do that.

Looking for 4 different concepts at the moment, please feel free to do any number of them.

Thanks, Tristan.

OH this looks interesting, I will probably try and draw something even though I'm not a pro haha~ :3 (Is there any time limit for your project ?)

Thanks! No there is no time limit, I'm planning on having it in progress within 8 months, at which point I will likely share some media.

Great :) Also, can the creatures fly (high, or just above the ground) ?

I'll consider drawing and scanning something for this. I'm not amazing, but I guess it'll be kinda fun. :')

No wings. No flying.

The prawnskunk turns swiftly during the night in the cold waters. These two prawnskunks who are turning swiftly are best friends. To show a token of their appreciation, they often engage in a long session of mutual back scratching. Other hobbies include long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners and killing sharks.

Re: Zag's Creature Creation Request!

While I appreciate the token, I can't use it for my game. :(

Arntonach 05-26-2012 07:18 AM

Re: Zag's Creature Creation Request!

The token is a dreaded fiend of the lands known for their voracious appetite and used by the nomadic peoples for self-defense and scaring other predators. Even if all organic life nearby has been eaten, it will start eating the soil nearby and can live off of it for almost two months. Elusive, it prefers to hide from predators, usually in plain sight due to it's skin blending in to it's preferred habitat of mossy highlands. They are difficult to overcome, but when beaten, show devout loyalty.

Re: Zag's Creature Creation Request!

Are there any more specifics that would make more of you smear something on paper?

I'm not looking for diamonds, I'm serious something like the following would be completely acceptable.

This is an example of a submission I would accept, no less but definitely more if you are inclined.

----------------

Creature Name: I dunno Zag, you're the boss. ._.?
Colours: Brown? Grey? Hell if I know, stop making me work so hard.
Corresponding Environment: No. I decided to make something else.
Picture:

Info:
1) Snake like rib muscles. Slithers across surfaces. Sticky substance allows movement along walls and ceilings. Cannot move across excessively rough terrain, only smooth surfaces.
2) Eats moss, lichen, and small bugs. No teeth, small tongue.
3) Placeholder eye, I don't really understand what you meant by 'unconventional' so you can think of something to put there instead.
4) Spiky membrane. Fluid on belly absorbs rock particles, breaks them down, and they are excreted out of the back of the creature into oddly shaped stalactite like stone structures. Acts as a defence against everything, but also prevents them from going into smaller places as they grow. (Fluid is pushed up by pressure when on floor, or drips down when upside down. etc...)
Additional: Born from hives as small fleshy little things that quickly find stone to absorb and to use to create a shell.

----------------

There you go. I can work wonders with simple starting positions like this!
:) Thanks.
