Dossar's Foot Play goals
On September 3rd I adjusted my StepmaniaX Stage to a more playable state and had my first session on it. The up arrow is still a bit funky, but otherwise the pad is pretty good.
This thread is for tracking some goals I have related to foot play in addition to weight loss goals. July 2019 Goals DDR: - Normal clear lamp on all 18s - Break 980k on another 18 - Pass Egoism 440 CSP 19 ITG: - Pass 10 total 15s, with at least three of them being from the Pendulum pack Click the below spoiler for the 2018 entries. |

Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
I'm super jealous you have a SMX pad, from what I've heard they're amazing to play on.
I'm surprised you haven't changed it to have a non-button centre panel though, but I guess that's counter intuitive if you have any desire in smx the game... Anyways good stuff!! It's also cool to see it motivating for fitness etc I wonder if there would be enough interest for a pad scores megathread on ffr, btw... I know theres actually a bunch of people who play various pad games here (ddr/itg/piu) |

Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals

A few things about working with the SMX pad: - I did replace the center panel with the gray metal panel originally, and it's noticeably higher than the other panels which makes play worse. It's also incredibly hard to remove. Never again. - Keeping the original panel allows for a smoother surface to play on. Currently the middle panel is a bit lower than the other four panels, but that's much better than being higher. I'll need to get a raiser frame if I want the middle panel to be on the same level as the other panels as best as possible. At some point in the near future I'm planning on compiling together some recorded videos I took when modifying the pads. Basically, there are four load cell sensors in each panel and you need to take at least three main things into account to get the panels to a better state: 1.) Adjust the outer screw of the sensor 2.) Spin up the sensor head so it's closer to the panel 3.) Loosen the panel a bit so it doesn't restrict the sensor from movement. This does raise the panel slightly. |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
what would be a good pad to buy if I can't get one of those bad boys?

Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
smx are like >1k lmao
pdp are garbage don't touch them impulse is coming out who knows when but i'm literally waiting for them because i've played on a prototype and it was probably better than any arcade pad i've played on http://maty-taneczne.pl/ - might be your best bet if they ship to the US (i haven't checked) i know a bunch of people who have one of these and say that it's really fucking good quality. even with some egregious shipping costs, this could potentially cost less than a pdp but still be by far the best choice for an intermediary edit: checked the polish pads, they do ship to the US, and even though shipping is like 100 extra euros (base price ~150 euros), it's like literally the same price as a PDP but like infinite times the quality |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
To elaborate on what YoshL mentioned about some of the pads:
StepmaniaX Stage (SMX pad) StepmaniaX Stages started as $1,337 each. Now they're $1,360 and can be expected to increase to approximately $1,385 when you take into account a yearly 2% inflation rate. Shipping is also high (for me it was $275). This means you'd actually aim towards spending roughly $1,650 for one of them if you go with the shipping option as opposed to local pickup.* *Reason why I started with the shipping method as opposed to other options listed like local pickup is due to the insanely high demand where you battle time vs. buying the pad. Because the demand was so high, the pads sold out within 3 minutes of the link going live for the 100 units that were available in early August this year. You can expect something similar to happen in the next wave. People have expressed concern about locking a purchase request once the user is brought to the order details screen so they don't have to rush in the order. Something else to consider about SMX is that it is highly supported by the original manufacturer. There is a central store you can go to for most of your needs: whether it is sensors, riser frames to push up your center panel for more level panels, etc. There is also a software configuration tool to check your pad's sensitivity in real time when you are adjusting it. All in all, it's a great pad but the price is definitely up there and every wave could take anywhere from 4-6 months at the current rate. I'm not sure entirely what the bottleneck is, but this is currently the case. Precision Dance Pad (PDP) I got one of these originally, and if you're planning on playing songs mostly below 180 BPM and below the 13 ITG level range, these are okay. But when it comes to higher level play, they don't fair very well -- I can agree with YoshL that if you're seriously going to be into the game, these are not the best option. When I got mine it was $350. Impulse Platforms The rumored price for an individual Impulse Platform pad was in the range of $600-$800. This means you could potentially get one for nearly half the price of one StepmaniaX Stage, also using sensors based on load cell technology. As YoshL mentioned, there have not been any units available for Impulse Platforms yet. It's not clear when they will be releasing the first wave of pads, and the lack of transparency as to what the roadmap is (e.g. next two months planning on testing, then release early 2019) is what is turning some people away from this pad as an option despite the positive feedback about the prototype. |

Updated the scores post to have spoilers so it's not as long of a post vertically. September 11/Tuesday has been included as well, being the best session so far.

Did you participate in Stamina RPG 2.0 this year? Best remote tourny ever. UI for the tournament was fantastic, Ian (archi) the Godfather of Stamina is a boss. ECS [East Coast Stamina] this year is going to be awesome.

Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
September 2018 Reflection
September 2018 Goals - Play every two days - Pass exotic ethnic 1.8 rate - Get a star/96% break on a Crossover Spectrum 13 - Get down to 142 pounds - Consistently play 13s - Pass Rhythm and Police KOG G3 Mix 2.0 rate Passing exotic ethnic 1.8 rate and getting my first 96% break on a Crossover Spectrum 13 was exciting! I also played a decent number of 14s this month, clearing out most of the other 14s in DDRStream PreSupernova (see September 11 session). The weight loss goal above was very ambitious when I found out how my weight moves around. I'm currently 149 pounds so I actually gained 1 pound overall, but I did get down to 146 at some point this month. I tried playing every two days unless something came up that would throw off my sleep (in which case it was three days). I try to have my sessions at a consistent time to make sure I don't play too late or early. I've changed the goal to be 2-3 depending on the situation. In terms of the pad, it's been modified to a pretty good state, although the up arrow is what gives me by far the most misses in the bottom right corner of the panel (so in other words, my right foot). The bottom left corner doesn't seem to give as many misses, and I've learned that even though the pad is full of 15 KG sensors, not every sensor is the same. I had to a replace a faulty sensor in the down panel with one in the center panel. Kyle was nice enough to send some spare sensors :) For October, it would be a good idea for me to focus more on my speed and stamina before getting back to my other rate ventures (e.g. Rhythm and Police KOG G3 Mix 2.0 rate). With that in mind, I have updated October with the following goals. I'm focusing on improving my speed a bit more, since I rarely play songs with streaming above the 170 range. October 2018 Goals - Continue maintaining a good state of the pad: get a riser frame, check the sensors regularly - Play every 2-3 days - Get down to 145 pounds - Play 200 BPM in at least half the sessions - Break 90 on several 14s |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
I admire the heck out of this. I think my own goal is to get to a point sometime in the next 5 years where I invest in a decent pad and make time to play this consistently. Keep goin!!!
|
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
Today's session made me realize how important flush panels are (well, I should say convinced to get a riser frame). I was able to pass Silence 1.2 rate and get a similar score to my previous pass (92.90%) but man it was death with the slightly raised panels.
Going to place an order for the riser frame the coming week :) |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
Damn your October progress is really nice. Sorry to hear about the crack putting a temporary hold in your sessions. Make sure to get in some running, rowing, or biking so you don't fall out of form.

check out magnetic csp as another 17 that you may be able to 990k break on. It doesn't have any bullshit except some crossovers which you seem to be pretty solid at.

October 2018 Reflection
October 2018 Goals - Continue maintaining a good state of the pad: get a riser frame, check the sensors regularly - Play every 2-3 days - Get down to 145 pounds - Play 200 BPM in at least half the sessions - Break 90 on several 14s A lot of weird pad stuff happened this month. I had to adjust the wheels a couple of times and the down panel broke (I was sent a replacement, thanks Kyle Ward :) ). I was able to install a 1/8" riser frame and adjust the up and right arrows a bit, although I've noticed that the up and right arrow have some particularly interesting issues: - The up arrow is for some reason undersensitive in the bottom-right corner (important corner, go figure) - The right arrow is good on the outside, but the inner edge requires to be hit a certain way to register (important edge, go figure) For now it looks like the pad should be in a playable state, but I'm expecting to have to work on the up and right arrows more this month. Some sessions the right arrow was so bad that it would give 20 or more misses during a song while the other panels would give zero or a few. I did manage to get down to 147 pounds, so even though it's not the 145 goal, it's still a good step forward considering how much my weight fluctuates. The 200 BPM goal didn't work out as much as I hoped due to pad issues, although I did try out some DDR songs like Anti-Matter CSP 18. I'm going to take away the play every 2-3 days goal and just go by that I'll try to play as often as I can without making it stressful. The aim is still every two days as much as I can. I did break 90 on the two 14s I got videos of on October 1st, but nothing after that. What really stood out to me for October was my DDR A accomplishments. On October 20th I got the following: - First Single 18 950,000 break (Max 360 ESP 18) - Another Doubles 18 Pass (Paranoia Revolution EDP 18) - Two new ESP 16 AAAs (Life is Beautiful and Wadatsumi) - Fascination Maxx CSP 18 double digit greats and single digit misses As a result, I'll have goals for DDR A mixed in this time. I of course still have a focus of improving stamina and speed, which should lead to accomplishing the DDR A goals. What'll make the DDR A goals harder is that on public DDR machines, the pads are not modded so there are more misses and greats that result from trying to play similarly on my pad. November 2018 Goals - Get down to 145 pounds - DDR A: Break 990k on several more 16s - DDR A: Break 900k on more 18s, and break 950k on another 18 - DDR A: Break 970k on several 17s (Be a Hero and Saber Wing Headshot come into mind) |

Updated the score post with my November 14th session which was the best ITG session for this month. I fell on my left knee this morning from slippery ice so I'm going to take it easy and possibly start again on Sunday.

Also I usually only go to the Round 1 locations once a month, so the playing on my SMX pad in between is meant to help me improve between those sessions. Next time I'm thinking of playing more 18s, and possibly passing a 19. The two I have in mind are Valkyrie Dimension or Egoism 440; these are going to be harder on the arcade pads vs. my home setup. |

On December 13th (Thursday) Seth, myself, and a few others went to the Round 1 in Puente Hills. While they did require shoes, I was able to borrow fitkicks for this session and did much better than I originally anticipated.
Summary - Second 15 PFC (In Between) - 18 improvements: 950k break on NGO, 970k break on Maxx Unlimited X-Special - Deadball PFC (this is a tricky 13 to time, it's swing based) - A few other 13 PFCs - Other improvements on 15s and 16s Pictures Click the spoiler below to see the score pictures. |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
Saturday (December 22nd) was the first time I used skinners for a full DDR session. They're definitely the best shoes I've used for dance games, as they feel similar to socks but have more grip so it also is a solution to me not playing doubles barefoot. It was the last Round 1 session I had at Puente Hills before going back from my California trip.
It's worth noting this is the first DDR session that the ingame calorie counter broke 2,000 calories. (Below run was playing Paranoia Survivor on 0.25x speedmod with flat) . Summary For Singles: - Two new 17 980k breaks - Played more 18s with some improvements - More 16 improvements and AAAs - Some more 15 improvements and lower level PFCs For Doubles: - First PFC (Holic EDP 11) - First 15 AAA (got two) - Improvement on Paranoia Revolution EDP 18 - 970k break on a doubles 16 Pictures Click the spoiler below to see the score pictures and the descriptions. |

November 2018 Reflection
November 2018 Goals - Get down to 145 pounds - DDR A: Break 990k on several more 16s - DDR A: Break 900k on more 18s, and break 950k on another 18 - DDR A: Break 970k on several 17s (Be a Hero and Saber Wing Headshot come into mind) This is really more of a November-December reflection since I was gone to California for two weeks in December. I'm also taking a break from dance games right now, and looking to start getting back into the routine of things in around a week. All of the November 2018 Goals were accomplished over the two month period except for the weight goal. The weight goal is going to be adjusted. While I haven't been going down to 145, I have been staying around the low 150s range. From today I was 151; the idea is to make sure all my current clothes fit nicely, and that I feel more comfortable physically (which is what I found 145 to be the ideal weight for). I'm going to focus mostly on the DDR A accomplishments to list what I totally did not expect. Some of them were the 950k breaks I got on some 18s, the new PFCs on 15+, getting a first level 17 AAA, and more. I didn't list all of them here, although this gives an idea of how I can look forward to more improvement. :) Now my focus should include improvement on speeds 180 and higher. Going for a 15 on ITG right now isn't a good idea just yet until my speed is more consistent. February 2019 Goals - Stay in the lower 150s weight range or below - Pass more ITG 13s and 14s that are 180 BPM or above - Pass more of the remaining 18s for the 18 clear lamp - Pass a 19 on DDR A |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
February 1st, 2019 will be known as the day I passed my first 19s :)
This was a hard session and I was pleasantly surprised by the results. With a nasty charley horse at 3 AM on Thursday, I skipped Thursday and just rested so I could try to haul on Friday. February 9th, 2019: Second trip to Maine R1 location of the year. I noticed the left and up arrows were much less sensitive than the pads in Taunton, MA so I was noticeably getting more misses on harder charts. I still managed to snag my second 17 AAA this day however!

May 4th
Got a Maine Round 1 trip with my friends. I've come to the conclusion that the Maine R1 pads aren't as good for bracketing as the Round 1 Taunton pads, so it's harder to play in socks. I did manage to pass a set of 3 double 18s in a row this time around. I was VERY close to failing on Trigger's 18; that ending is way harder than it looks. Also got a new 17 AAA (Rising Fire Hawk), Boss Rush AAA, and a new 15 PFC! May 11th First hard ITG session in a while. Most of it was 13s and 14s. I ended up getting almost a 7% improvement on Crush, got my first pass on Silence 1.3 rate (68 measures of simple 182 stream), and my first pass on Granite. I was so gassed after Granite, although it was a good 80 minute session (first half was 10-12s). |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
May 27th
I was on a bit of a hiatus since my last ITG session, although today's session was a nice surprise. I'll have passing an ITG 15 by end of June a goal. This session started off slower with a previous 10-12 songlist, and then I jumped into 13s and higher for the rest of it. It's worth noting that: - I upscored Calamity Fortune from my October 1st, 2018 fluke run! (92.33% to 93.89%) - FC on Be Lovin', with my previous score being an 89.41% on September 11th, 2018. What was nice about this session was that I played several 200 BPM songs that weren't just Calamity Fortune. Getting a better hang of 200 made Be Lovin' feel so much more manageable. |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
June sessions
June 1st Had another Round 1 Maine Mall trip on June 1st, and had some nice 18 upscores and registered passes on Anti-Matter and 888 (previously had no score on them). June 10th Pretty good ITG session today in preparation for my first 15. June 11th The day of my first ITG 15 pass! In addition to it being a Pendulum 15, it was also the day of my first Pendulum 14 star. Videos for the above two: June 18th Got 15 passes #2 and #3 today (although Thursday is debatable). Also got Thursday on video! Above picture is to give an idea of how much better the score could have been if the up arrow bottom right corner wasn't giving so many misses. June 22nd Today I cleared the remaining 18s needed to get an 18 folder clear lamp! :D Also broke 980k on Max 300 X-Special and broke a new personal record for used calories count in a single Round 1 session (that's what the Drop Out picture is). June 25th I got two more Pendulum 15s! I met my goal of three Pendulum 15s earlier than anticipated so this was nice. I like the idea of "Haulin' Tuesday" :) This means that I currently have five 15 passes (although Thursday is arguably a higher 14). It's nice to start getting into 15s on a more consistent basis now, even if I haven't been playing as much as I want. |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
These are my summer goals for DDR and ITG.
July 2019 Goals DDR: - Normal clear lamp on all 18s* - Break 980k on another 18 - Pass Egoism 440 CSP 19 ITG: - Pass 10 total 15s, with at least three of them being from the Pendulum pack** * I had this goal before my June 22nd session, which I got the 18 clear lamp. ** I currently have 7 out of 10 ITG 15 passes, with three Pendulum passes. Hold Your Colour, Girl In The Fire, and Axle Grinder SX 15. July 2nd Got two new 15 passes. This is the most 165 I've done in any session. That 100 measure run in Aggressive 201 was incredibly brutal. Up arrow could definitely be better, but I'm managing. Getting closer to the ten 15s goal by end of July! |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
nice Anniversary my dude, I'm also hoping to have the 18s lamped by the end of July but been focusing more on green lamping the 14s
also fuck 888 CSP |

Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
On July 11th I got my first 16 pass (Lights) a month after my first 15 pass (Hold Your Colour). Also got First Remote, which is a nice crossover-based streaming chart from Spooty Biscuit that was available in a previous tournament pack.
It's also worth noting this is the first time I got single digit greats and double digit excellents on Calamity Fortune. |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
July 17 and 19
Starting to slowly build into 16s! Wednesday and Friday were some nice hauling sessions and I'm combining them into this one post. Currently I am at three total 16s passed. Twenty Four Seven is the first 16 pass where I have not screamed. Up arrow panel bottom right corner is definitely not playing nice with me, but I'm managing. Right panel also needed adjustment after Red Mist. 15s 16s Videos |

Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
So it's been a while since I've posted in this thread. In the summer some time in August I damaged my heel and it took more than a month to recover to a proper playing state, and I also burned out from focusing too much on stamina. There were some occasional Round 1 DDR sessions I had, and some notable scores were:
- Two more DDR 18 980k breaks (Come to Life and Maxx Unlimited X-Special) - Bye Bye Baby Balloon Crossover Spectrum 0 greats - For FFR Crossover Spectrum pass (first crossover 16) Come to Life Bye Bye Baby Balloon 0 greats For FFR pass Recent sessions After a long dance game hiatus, my first home session on Wednesday March 18th I aimed for a Valkyrie dimension Challenge ITG pass. It's harder to pass on ITG due to ComboToRegainLife (you can hit a few notes but gain no life, which is very important on harder charts). You can see the video here: I also passed Bad Maniacs SX 14 from Crossover Spectrum II in yesterday's session for the first time, and focused only on 190 BPM and above. I passed Calamity Fortune SX 14 (200 BPM) four times, failed the fifth run, and played Bad Maniacs to finish my set. It was an 81.60% and I'm aiming to do better on that in the future. Current goals Play twice a week on my home setup and focus on 190-200 BPM. I played a lot of 170-180 last year and I want to maintain higher speeds. |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
That Come to Life is very nice with only two missed!
Those crossovers murder me lol |
Re: Dossar's Foot Play goals
March 26th/Thursday is the most water weight I've lost in a home session (3 pounds) and was 2 and a half hours long. The first 45 minutes was tweaking the pads while also trying to warm up.
DDRStream new 98s On a different note: I'm going to aim for a 96 on this in the future. Crossover Spectrum Stars New Crossover Spectrum 14 DDRStream PostSupernova passes above 180 BPM This was a reminder of how I need to improve on 180 and above (hence the goal I put into place); also that I haven't been actively playing, so it'll be good to get back into the swing of things again. Videos Squeeze SX 13 - 98.20% Splash Gold SX 13 - 98.24% District of the Shadows 94.69% Run to the Hills (Challenge) [91.08%] Death Egg Zone (Challenge) [96.64%] Inner City Trash (Challenge) [96.56%] |
