practice yea, but switching from index to one-handed is dumb cuz index is superior. try spread or 4 finger if your going to switch to something else. playing one handed is only good for practicing coordination with each hand so that you play better spread or index, but not for real play imo.

play alot. it's hard to get good at 1h for anyone and takes more time than any of the other playstyles.

switch to spread. you'll hit a wall one-handed after a while. trust me.

strong bump, but the reason im playing one handed is because i am bored it is simply that, i made an alt account just for 1 handed scores, playing 1 handed all the time hasnt effected my index skills iether so im just doing it for fun, i will probably switch to spread eventually when im bored of 1 handed, besides 1 handed is a challenge and i love a challenge.

From a 100% pure one-hander: Yes, practice definitely. Also (assuming you're playing index on left, middle finger on up and down, ring on right), get used to moving your middle finger between the up and down keys really fast. And when you get decent enough one handed to do faster songs, do those songs over and over again (something like Max Forever 4 or 5 times in a row) to build stamina. If you don't have stamina in your middle fingers, you'll have a hard time getting past Difficult songs one-handed. Also keep in mind that your fingers are learning new reflexes, different from the ones you had playing index, so you have to give them lots of practice time. The more practice, the shorter the reaction times of your new one-handed playing reflexes, and the better (and faster) you can play.
A side note: One-handed play is not particularly strong of a playing style for PA, imo. So don't be surprised if that comes slower. On slower songs I find keeping my fingers off the keys when I don't absolutely need them there (aka. pressing a key) and tapping like the keys of a typewriter greatly improves my PA.

Hope this helps...

Best advice would be to practice

Doing the most basic patterns
PA

and

Speed.

Not gonna go in depth but basically those three things and the rest comes.

Yes you have to get used to moving your middle finger up and down really fast. Also just get the feel for basic patterns like staircases or spins.

I never get why people like to play one-handed. It's inferior to nearly every other general playstyle and it causes unnecessary strain that begs for carpal tunnel. Sure it's impressive to accomplish a good score on a song one-handed, but is it worth it?

Well i always like to have a drink in the other hand lol.

Re: need tips for 1 handed play

You could always play spread and just put a straw in your drink and set it in the middle, rofl

Yeah that can actually work well.

It's not that we like to play one handed. It's that we dislike the other styles. At least I do. >.> Hey Jelly. Yeah...
  • Play "Max Forever". This is the quickest way to get good at playing one handed. Once you can manage to get a half decent score, 700 - FC, with 0 - 5 boos you'll be pretty advanced.
  • After that I would focus on FCing "Etude to a Dragon" a few times in a row with 0 - 5 boos. After you have mastered endurance and Jump Stream there isn't really anything that can block you.
  • As for awkward practice. I suggest FCing J219, playing Sympathizer ****loads, and trying to hit at least a 500 combo on VB.
Cheers.

I've been playing one handed ever since I started, which raises the question, what the hell is index?

When you use both of your index fingers only for play.

i would definitly say try doing fast songs with jumpstream. Jumpstream is definitly the most difficult pattern for me to do.
