He sent me the file awhile back, I dont remember it too well/know what he edited. Just remember it being a very fast file.

If a file feels comfortable to many players it probably isn't a hard file

I am not kidding. Files are accepted which aren't to your stylistic preferences; that is and should be the case with everyone's preferences.

kommisar 02-1-2011 04:12 PM

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread v2

we've more or less adapted to a style of stepping that pleases people the most; something structured, that flows well and feels like you're actually playing the song (keynotes YEAH!!). So basically everyone is conforming to that style.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread v2

I don't believe in keysounding entirely. I care for accenting more than anything.

kommisar 02-1-2011 04:26 PM

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread v2

it's how people make files, but personally yeah accenting is way more efficient. kil theory

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread v2

Keysound things that are inharmonic and then pick your leads to match the pitch to. You can permute the columns on repetitions if the song isn't doing much. This isn't a stylistic concern, this is how to put down the right notes.

The two 12ths there only go to the melody you aren't stepping.
Cool with the other stuff.

And as for the sync, here; this will work much better:
#OFFSET:-0.072585;
#BPMS:0=152, 94=158.405, 95=147.656, 96=156.023, 97=152, 119=160.247, 120=151.442, 121=153.125, 122=150.89, 123=148.719, 124=150.89, 125=154.574, 125.667=126.815, 126=162.132, 127=152.56, 128=148.719, 129=152, 157=145.577, 158=152, 159=158.107, 159.667=141.097, 160=158.405, 161=152, 176=159.628, 177=152, 185=151.165, 186=152.842, 187=148.719, 188=158.405, 189=152, 255=143.555, 256=150.341, 257=152, 264=157.801, 265=146.609, 266=159.014, 267=152.56, 268=150.89, 269=151.729, 269.667=136.006, 270=152;

I thought you had mentioned 24's, that's why I was confused. Don't look at files when you first wake up after little sleep x_x

But holy shit that was a mind-fuck for the BPM's. I'll have to look into it, I don't have ddream because I've attempted to use it and it was really complicated for me. Especially since I don't really have anyone to sit down and fully explain it to me. I'm assuming the first number is the beat and the second number is the BPM at that beat? If so I can fix all of this and resend and see what you think.

aperson 02-1-2011 04:30 PM

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread v2

You can just paste that into the .sm and it'll update all those bpms. First number is measure (decimal for divisions), and second is bpm.

i love you 02-1-2011 05:08 PM

Fair enough, I was just worried that files might be graded harshly due to difficulty alone.

Well, the criteria ARE strict. There are two problems:
- due to subjectivamanias, getting a good enough rating depends on luck, so the group of good files and the group of accepted files won't match up
- jx doesn't like the conditional queue, so accept-quality files that need smaller fixes don't always get them

I disagree. People like different things in their files (some people want extreme technicality, some people want files with comfortable patterns, some people want files that match the feel of the song) and it's impossible to satisfy them all. As an example, personally I don't like a lot of the modern SM files that get published in packs. But as a judge I do try to not have a bias against the style of stepping, as long as it feels like it makes sense for me.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread v2

There are two reasons which may necessitate file strictness that I didn't think about earlier, but they are unrelated to any idea of how "good" the file is:

- you may want stylistic unity in your game (KBO for example. I've been making a few KBO files knowing that if it is too Arch0wly stargroup has legitimate reasons for rejecting it. I don't consider it "making the file better" but "making the file in the way stargroup wants" and I've been working repeatedly to do this.)

- you may feel that having too many songs released at one time is too much to keep up with competitively, which is understandable

however, I don't think either of these reasons were expressed by anyone in this thread.

worth reading: http://youarenotsosmart.com/2010/05/...introspection/

(sorry if this post is poorly written, I'm in a hurry atm.)

Ya know I always figured Arch would be an arrogant asshole. But now I see he's got some good points to everything. I saw a lot of contrast between his notes and the other judges of his group. Just a random thought.

Is it a completely different file, or is it the same one on here now with fixes? If it's the latter, let jx know right away.
