Easy Song Special Batch - Submission Closed

[Easy Song Special Batch]

We don't have enough easy files in the queue currently, and they are definitely
needed for new FFR players. So we decided to start a easy song special batch.

ALL SUBMISSIONS NEED TO BE SENT TO FOLLOWING ADDRESS AS A ZIP OR RAR.

ffrsubmissions@gmail.com

Submission Deadline is 11:59:59 PM(CST/Server Time), May 31, 2011.

[Submission Rules, etc]

- Basically only difficulty 1-6 songs [1-13 difficulty rating] are allowed to submit. Easier ones (1-4) are especially needed.
- Aiming for 30-40 files in a batch. The deadline will be extended if we don't get enough files.
- No group judgement system, all submissions will be judged by the same judges.
- A person can submit maximum 3 files, and SAP won't be added when they are accepted.
- No resubmission system.
- New artist's songs are more appreciated.

Other submission rules are same with regular batch's ones, read submission rules in this thread.

I'll definitely try and step something for this. I'm not that great of a stepper, but easy stuff is probably gonna be fun.

Re: Easy Song Special Batch - Submission Open

Are 16th jacks at 95bpm too fast for a 5 or 6 file?
I think certain guidelines might be good to have, like the one above so people don't go a little overboard and make it a 7 or an 8 when they really just meant it to be a 6. Atleast I think it would be good for me and some other newer steppers.

who_cares973 05-24-2011 02:46 PM

Re: Easy Song Special Batch - Submission Open

Just look at current 1-6 files in game as references. Giving guidelines will ruin the creative part of stepping

Re: Easy Song Special Batch - Submission Open

The only thing I suspect that won't be allowed is hands/quads, other than that, everything is a go as long as you're keeping it easy enough.

P.s.

Quite honestly, I don't have an AIM, but now seems like a good time to make one. If you actually manange to get me to make files, you'll quickly become a favorite! (Aside from the fact you pretty much for just volunteering!)

This would be my 2nd time stepping a song.. and the first time it didn't work out so well.

Am I restricted to the SM3.95 in-game editor, or is there a better, more convenient way of going about doing this?

megamon88 05-24-2011 04:15 PM

Re: Easy Song Special Batch - Submission Open

Some people use ddream, but I personally just use the 3.95/ssc one.

Also, I might submit something for this if I have the time.

I find it ironic that we're limited to 3 songs in this batch when what we need is as many "easy" files as possible, since they're usually much scarcer in normal batches.

which happily enough, is untrue

You can still use them, but with great discretion. Also worth noting is that [124] and [134] hand patterns are easier to hit for one-handed players compared to [123] or [234] (thanks aperson for pointing this out).

I'd like to see someone submit Cosmovibe's (sg's) lightfoot song. That song was meant to demonstrate hands in an easy file. And the song's cool too.

leonid 05-24-2011 11:57 PM

Re: Easy Song Special Batch - Submission Open

well that depends on the key settings. I use "bnm," on which [123] and [234] are much easier to hit with one hand

And are we going to get a response to our emails weather or not the song will be added?

For everyone to know: Just as an idea, an upper 6 would be the Lion's Dance by Silvuh. Check that chart out.

There's no lower limit of course for an easy batch!

I wasn't expecting this at all... I'm lucky to have stumbled upon this thread on time!

Sent my file, but this begs the question: why aren't you guys using the front page more for events like this one? It will surely go unnoticed. If you want to attract new members, or get 3 submissions per user, why aren't you actually making sure that people are aware of it? I mean, it's a special batch, not an easter egg batch! :P Didn't you make this an easy songs batch because you were short on them in the first place?

I suggest learning how to use DDReamstudio. (download the thing here: http://www.mediafire.com/?82al94e5ot6sfy2)

It might feel weird when you use it for the first time, and 5 days might be a bit short to learn how to use it properly and squeeze out a nice easy chart (which are hard to make D: ), but Youtube has good tutorials. I highly suggest you use this tool over any other. You can use your mouse, have keyboard shortcuts, see the waveform of the song, etc. I'll never go back to SM, and I bet you won't either.

I offered the song to Kayla, who'll likely step it.

Also, I agree about the lack of front page posts...there haven't been any for a while now.

With less than a week remaining, I don't think DDReam is the viable choice for everyone to learn how to efficiently sync a song. (if you want to learn about DDReam, watch who_care's youtube tutorial)

If you can visualize with waveforms well, then go for it.

Mans0n 05-25-2011 08:08 PM

Re: Easy Song Special Batch - Submission Open

I've been using Virtual DJ 7 pro for a about 2 months now, and because of that using DDream is very effective because I'm quite experienced with looking at waveforms to determine which part(s) are what in the song.

And I think I'm going to submit something to this batch.

jimerax 05-25-2011 08:08 PM

Re: Easy Song Special Batch - Submission Open

The reasons we don't post news for this are, first, we don't need that many files for this batch. Second, I want people who are new to this site/rhythm games to understand what are good/fun files, or how to step files before they submit something to FFR.

I'll probably make a news post for new artist special batch though.

DDReam all night long. :(

PS) Is there some sort of thing lays out simple beats?

And what's layering? :/ There are different layers to my song?!

MaxGhost 05-25-2011 10:13 PM

Re: Easy Song Special Batch - Submission Open

Layering = placing an arrow when you hear one instrument (say, a piano), rince & repeat with other instruments (say, a guitar). Usually two times, but not limited to that. So sometimes two instruments overlap and create jumps, and often, jumpstreams.

Hope you'll get a song in game, trust me, it feels pretty good. :) Just remember to brush up the patterns at least 25 times each to make them perfect

Nearly finished - need to get DDReam and proofread it one last time. It's from an artist that we've had permission from for a long while, but that I don't believe has any songs in game. Well, he might have one.

Actually, I have the same question as OHN. I believe my chart hovers around a 5-6, maybe low 7 - it's about 1:40 long and has a few 16th bursts about 2 seconds long. They're all easy patterns though (staircases, crossovers).

I don't see a .dwi file in my folder.. How do I generate one..? I only have a .sm file.
