[CLOSED] Temporary Web Development Positions

Temporary Web Development Positions are OPEN.
e-mail applications to DossarLX@gmail.com with the subject "{username} Web Development Application", e.g. DossarLX ODI Web Development Application
Please send any new information as a reply to your first e-mail, so your whole application will be threaded together.

Applications End September 25th, 10:00 PM EST.

This Application is for a Temporary Web Development Position until the end of December 2015 that will entail a guided learning experience with me and provide some beneficial utilities for the FFR Wiki (and possibly a few other areas of the FFR site itself). Development will not take place on the FFR site itself, just like the Batch Search Engine is currently not on FFR itself. I will create a GitHub account that will be shared across the accepted applicants and they will be given a contract to agree to.

Some requirements for the positions (I'm planning on having at most 4 accepted applicants, although that number can change):
- Willing to learn and ask questions
- Willing to read through any training documents as needed
- Willing to communicate problems that arise, and log hours worked frequently
- Basic understanding of storing data in a programming language
- Basic looping constructs in a programming language
- Basic usage of functions
- Has created some basic programs with at least one programming language
- Willing to attend 1 on 1 discussions about their experience with this position
- Mention any other programming experience

Preferred but not required:
- Exposure to JavaScript
- Exposure to HTML
- Exposure to CSS
- Exposure to git as source control (GitHub will be used here)

Also mention your preferred method of communication. A Skype group will be created for the accepted applicants and myself (Silvuh will also be a part of it).

The exact details of what these positions will entail is to be determined after applications are reviewed and accepted. I am still discussing possible scenarios with noname219 about what site ideas could help benefit the FFR Wiki and I'll be preparing the scenarios for the applicants.

Below is a list of technologies that accepted applicants will be working with. I will act as a guide and provide documents about what assigned tasks are in addition to providing help if any applicants get stuck. This is meant to be a pleasant learning opportunity that also provides something beneficial to this site or the FFR Wiki.

- git (Source Control)
- Jade (Templating language for HTML)
- Node javascript (For running a server)
- jQuery
- Twitter Bootstrap 3 (Styling and page layout Twitter uses)

Re: [OPEN] Temporary Web Development Positions

While I'm not applying, I am really hopeful this site gets a facelift with bootstrap3. (seems like it from OP)
So much clustered, useless or hidden information that could be cleaned up rather easily. Time to make this site not look like a relic, comparatively.

Wish I had time for this but the timing is pretty bad for me; otherwise I could use some webdev experience while helping somehow. Best of luck finding applicants.

Definitely applying, will be sending out an email to you this afternoon at some point once I've got it ready.

As frustrated as I am with certain parts of the site's staff... this opportunity is extremely tempting only because I do have a background in this, and I'm aware of what you know -- a lot of the things that you know and I don't could be really valuable for me to learn, and to do it in an environment that I'm so familiar with (FFR, not a programming environment) could be a good way for me to get that extra experience.

I'm considering applying for this, but how much work per week would it entail approximately?

Re: [OPEN] Temporary Web Development Positions

The nice part about having multiple accepted applicants is that if a certain applicant isn't available, the other applicants can contribute in the meantime and then some work can be moved over. Planning is flexible and I'd consider load balancing to not to give an unfair amount of work to one person over everyone else.

I would only expect a few hours a week from each applicant, although like I mentioned it's flexible. I would say that I would not give more than 5 hours per week for one applicant unless he or she is comfortable with having more.

Re: [OPEN] Temporary Web Development Positions

Assuming it's not grueling, backbreaking physical labor I'm game for more than that (hehe)

I have quite a bit of free time right now when I'm not at work. Went to dinner with some coworkers and I'm going to head to bed here in a few, so I'll send that application tomorrow.

I'm a little confused. I need to know code for a Wikipedia page? Is this for an external website? I've been making and editing Wikipedia pages for several years and as long as I know the code Wikipedia uses, I've been good.

Re: [OPEN] Temporary Web Development Positions

I want to apply for this because I want to eventually pursue a career in web development after having an internship at a software consultant firm. Only problem is I'm currently at the uni so I guess my question would be how devoted do you want us to be?
EDIT Ok <=5 hours per week is more than doable.
EDIT EDIT sent application

I sent in my application. I've wanted to work with the FFR Dev. team for a while now, not so much to place my ideas into action, but more so to be the guy that implements others ideas.

Chiming in to remind all the applicants that they need to state their availability from early October to the end of December. It will give me a better idea of what is reasonable to assign depending on how certain schedules work.

I don't recall seeing this mentioned, so I don't know that I mentioned my availability. Basically I'll be working a full time job, but any time not devoted to my 40 hrs a week of work will be free time. So I'll be pretty good for availability, just maybe limited in what times during the day depending on my work schedule.

Re: [OPEN] Temporary Web Development Positions

I kinda mentioned my availability. 3pm-6pm weekdays, and 10am-6pm weekends. All the way through to December.

Added availability to my application.

Re: [OPEN] Temporary Web Development Positions

I have a lot of experience with webdev so whatever's the job I can do it (Though I spit on your usage of jQuery, you tainted plebians.).

But thing is, I'm pretty damn busy and I'm posting this only because I played my share of FFR through the years and never really gave back anything.

I would really like more information about the job just so I can know how interesting and worthwhile it's gonna be, I'll send an application so you can tell me, but don't count me in just yet.

Same boat. School just started back up again and I barely have time to breathe. If this were offered at the beginning of summer I would most likely apply.

Coming in to say that applications are now over and they will be reviewed tomorrow. Next steps for the accepted applicants will also be determined in the next few days. Thanks for applying.
