Except FFR's scoring is combo based. If you're going for good ranks, something you can't FC is too difficult to get a decent score on without a lot of mashing and/or luck. So it becomes a lot less fun to play. Of course, things change when you're playing for raw scoring (e.g. a custom tournament, indeed engine, offline engine, etc.).

As far as I'm concerned, "too hard" starts when you can't read any section of the file. As soon as you can start reading a good portion of it, then it's not too hard, it's something you can use to improve.

Maybe that's true for an FFR chart - on SM I'd say anything you are sure you can't pass is too hard, even if it just has one stupid jack section you can't do. The FFR engine is much better for playing really really tough files than the SM engine, because it's so much more forgiving - you can get meaningful scores, and meaningful improvement, even on a file that you are nowhere near being able to hit.

The scoring in-engine is combo based, but the community's consciousness is raw scoring based. How many times have you seen someone say "oh, so-and-so has gotten 3-0-1-3 on a file but they clearly can't SDG it because their best recorded score is 490-84-0-350"
It just doesn't happen, the community consciously cares more about raw scoring than combo scoring.

Pretty sure pollinosis drifts offsync. Opened up the engine to play, was expecting Reach's file. ):

Probably wrong offset. Try offset 2. I know it's on-sync once you get an offset that works.
Also it's way easier than Reach's file. Sorry if that's not what you wanted :(

I went about 3 days without playing, got this after 3 or 4 tries... Don't anticipate having free time to improve. :\

Haha, why tank yoo. :P Except findarian has me beat this round. If he somehow beats my raw score by ~3,000, I believe that'd get him a win in cumulative scoring.

Re: hi19hi19's Delicious Custom Theme Tournament

Was bored so I just did some calculations for lulz:

I've gotten 104 misses during the course of the tourney,
1 miss is equal to 2.4 goods so that comes out to 249.6 goods,
Each good is equal to 25 points loss from raw scoring since they could have been perfects, so 249.6 goods is equal to 6240 points loss.
In conclusion, I would have gotten 3rd place (and supped Zak) had I FC'ed the songs with the same PA. >.<

Also noticed that I would have won D3a in cumulative scoring had I been placed there, looks like you guys got lucky. ;P
