Turbo XIX: When Xiz Gets Flipped - Postgame

Turbo XIX: When Xiz Gets Flipped

Setup:
Backup 6
^Read the setup.

Code:

                    A                                        B                    C
1        Town Jailkeeper                        Vanilla Townie                Mafia Goon
2        Mafia Roleblocker                Town Cop                Town Doctor
3        Town Universal Backup                Mafia Goon                Town Tracker

Roles are determined by randomly selecting one row or one column from the above table, then filling in the remaining 6 roles with 5 Vanilla Townies and 1 Mafia Goon to create a 7-town, 2-mafia setup.

Rules:
Phase Lengths: 12/12hr days/nights
No lynch/No kill: ON
Cardflips: Full
OOTC: Off (Except for woofchat)
Nighttalk: Off
Woofchat is Night Only.
Phantoms: Off

1. FreezinIce - Vanilla Town (won at endgame)
2. the sun fan - Town Jailkeeper (died N2)
3. Charu - Town Universal Backup (won at endgame)
4. inDheart - Mafia Goon (lynched D1)
5. Xelicopter - Vanilla Town (lynched D0)
6. DaBackpack - Vanilla Town (won at endgame)
7. blindreper1179 - Mafia Roleblocker (lynched D2)
8. Hakulyte - Vanilla Town (won at endgame)
9. Arielbananate7 - Vanilla Town (won at endgame)

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Town won at D2.

Analysis:
This was a game that highlighted the exceptional strength of a Jailkeeper in the right hands.

D0 very nearly ended with a lynch on Blindreper1179, but last minute indecision/hesitance by town caused a reversal onto Xelicopter, which resulted in a mislynch. During the night, thesunfan expressed a desire to fix his mistakes from D0, which he felt he had performed poorly in. He had correctly understood a softclaim from Charu, realizing that Charu had a good chance of being Backup, and decided to medic-jail Charu. After some contemplation, he reasoned that, if Charu were PR, inDheart was the most likely person to correctly catch the soft, and therefore kill him. This, combined with a belief that wolves normally will choose to send a kill using their deep wolf, caused him to correctly (but at huge risk) jail inDheart. Incidentally, the wolfteam of inDheart/blindreper1179 had also caught Charu softing, and decided to send inDheart for the kill.

The result was a spectacular roleblock-jailing on inDheart, which confirmed sunfan's suspicions that inDheart had likely sent a kill on Charu and set in motion a series of events that won the game for town. It would be amiss to neglect to mention that inDheart, at the start of the phase (before sunfan claimed), correctly identified the town PRs to be exactly thesunfan/Charu . He had also laid down a brilliant soft on D0, that read "I'm jailor" when revealed. Had he decided to CC, game may have gone very differently. As it was, however, the end of the phase had inDheart mechanically lynched, after a day of posting in a townie manner. This, combined with an earlier callout by thesunfan and Charu, left blindreper1179 looking exceptionally suspicious for his attempt to save his partner. The following day ended the game quickly, with Blind's forfeiture.

As a result, I think thesunfan has solidly earned MVP for this game.

Also of note:
Charu, for believing enough in his trust of sunfan to not doubtcast him through D0 and D1, as well as for nearly singlehandedly pushing through the blindreper lynch on D1 (despite never actually voting him.

Arielbananate7, for playing exceptionally well and coming to the correct conclusions, despite this being their first TWG game and despite not knowing any of the players or their respective metas.

inDheart, for correctly reading Charu PR and playing a solidly towny D1, despite mechanically looking suspect AF. He should've CCed, in my opinion, but he made the best of it after failing to do so.

Loved bananas play.

I got read PR by not even my super obvious intended soft. But for an earlier post... which I guess was also a soft, but it wasn't suppose to be viewed as one, lol.

Re: Turbo XIX: When Xiz Gets Flipped - Postgame

But I think thesunfan caught my intended soft, so it ain't all that bad!

Who knew that ToS could actually build some decent players.

All kidding aside, it was great seeing Ariel's play from the sidelines. Really hopeful that they play again, but based off of timezones (I'm guessing they're based in Europe) that may be trickier than expected.

I also laughed at inD's bait for the same reason DBP flipped shit. Good ol' Flame Wars.

Good game for town and quick.

Guilt for killing xel is real though

Sunfan deserves mad props for that jailkeeper play, and it's a lesson to me in the dangers of letting tone dictate my reads over mechanics

I would have felt like garbage if I had wasted sunfans play by killing dbp that day.

Re: Turbo XIX: When Xiz Gets Flipped - Postgame

And I even started to briefly suspect charu the day before for trying to correct me.

Sorry charuuuuuu

just a small thing

in this setup, you're notified if you're roleblocked if you attempt an action, not just an investigative action

so wolves got hurt just a little bit by that

yeah, it came up that if i was supposed to be notified, then i should have the setup locked and that's how i know what role to counterclaim

the play i did was probably worse off for blind, because if i counterclaimed then he could just bus me mercilessly but i had to go and make it weird :(

great job to sunfan for his godly jailing

either of his two choices were pretty great

if i had thought about my own choices for another 5 seconds it maybe also changes things, but yeah we got strictly outmaneuvered n1

e: also sunfan and i were talking about spanish because he thought i was trying to say something with my "tacos are good" comment, but no, i had eaten tacos and they were good, that was all

Is this an FFR thing?

i guess so since the wiki clearly says otherwise

"Players are not told that they are blocked unless it cannot be helped. For instance, a Cop who is blocked by a Roleblocker has to be told something for their investigation result. Normally the Cop is given a message like "No Result". (It is terrible form to simply not give the Cop any result at all and assume that the Cop understands that they were blocked - the Cop may instead question if the moderator forgot about their investigation.)"

Yeah that's what's confusing me. Everything everywhere indicates that roleblocked/jailed targets are not to receive any info unless their role is such that they are expecting feedback. Even in the case of those roles, everything indicates that they not be explicitly informed that they were roleblocked, but rather return a "no result" or some such feedback.

I'd rather not go against that, but if doing so is an FFR thing and this is how we've always played it, then I can sort of understand and will abide by it.

the sun fan 10-3-2017 07:14 PM

Re: Turbo XIX: When Xiz Gets Flipped - Postgame

that's interesting

tbh I like it a lot better with targets being told they were roleblocked

but if its what the wiki said then I understand

It is how we've done it in the past though
