Dump Batch Discussion Thread

Dump Batch

"Dump" is a term broadly used to describe freeform chart styles that are not strictly bound to directly syncing steps to a song's notes. Dumps often use exaggerated pattern or rhythm choices to create a complex, gameplay-oriented interpretation of a song, often focusing more on how a pattern feels to play rather than the individual notes and technical details present in a song.

Dumps are notable for being a way for stepartists to create a chart with more creative leeway. Viable song choices are greatly increased with a dump approach, as strict rhythmic accuracy isn't entirely necessary. Dumps are also notable for their relative lack of presence in FFR. We're long overdue for a Dump Batch.

File Requirements:
-FFR's basic submission rules and standard permission requirements still apply.
-Musical relevance for dump patterns/rhythm choices is expected, as is a reasonable and musically relevant difficulty curve -- dumping is a style of charting, not an excuse to make poor files!
-The chart should have a good level of pattern/rhythm consistency.

The Dump Batch will be open for 3 months, until August 31.

Imo, really kinda the last thing ffr needs right now. There's a reason for this:

We already have a couple of charts in-game that could be considered (semi)dumps, I think a batch like this could open up the possibility for new and exciting content especially in the higher difficulty range.

I think the bar should be set very high for dumps though.

Dumps are great because they allow people who are not talented enough to make regular stepcharts to participate in the stepping community

is there any good argument that's not connected to artistic expression or something along those silly lines
maybe like 4-5 years ago I'd agree but until fiffer introduces any charting mechanics that arent just dry notes then this is kinda the only direction to go in as far as mechanical difficulty and end game song selection goes
I love me some blepity blops and I will keep making charts for those. not a lot of anime folk wanna hear blep blips
