Computer Help...
I didn't know where else to put this.
I use Firefox and I tried to get IE off my computer -- but to no avail. Now I get these stupid popups that refuse to go away immediately... I try to exit them and I get a little box that says 'Release [ Ok ]' It really affects me playing FFR... and doing anything really. I get 10 or 20 in a couple minutes. Does anyone know what I can do? I've tried popup software, Adaware and a registry cleaner. Here's a screenshot of what happens if I leave them. |
Re: Computer Help...
Your computer is dead...the only real to fix this is reformation. Get your Window's XP disc and some drivers if you want and if you don't know what to do I'll give you the steps how to. Also try to back up as little as possible as your files may be infected.
Last note: Don't do the reformations windows tells you to do as that does nothing. Again if you don't know what to do ask. |
Re: Computer Help...
Are you positive your pop-up blocker is on?
If you do, then Fido is pretty much right; you have to do reformation. |
Re: Computer Help...
Virus.

Re: Computer Help...
ps Holy shit you guys are dumb. Reformatting should always be a last resort.

Re: Computer Help...
Did you try System Restore or recovery, w/e?

Re: Computer Help...
With Internet Explorer 7, do the following:
Tools --> Manage Add-ons --> Enable or Disable Add-ons --> Disable all add-ons that are not affiliated with Windows or are clearly a necessary plug-in. (Java, Flash etc.) Tools --> Pop-up Blocker --> Turn on Pop-up Blocker |
Re: Computer Help...
You should stop looking at all of that porn, that's what's causing all of these problems.

Re: Computer Help...
I've already gone through her computer with my crazy computer fixing skills. And hell it's dead. It's at the point I always reformat. But it's not just her computer so thats not an option. (Unless she want to split the disk and have her own half) >.,

HEY, HERE'S AN IDEA! ACTUALLY POST THIS ON A TECH HELP FORUM, WHERE PEOPLE KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING, AND WON'T SIMPLY INSIST ON A REFORMAT LIKE ALL THESE IDIOTS DO! Seriously, why the **** would you post this on FFR. |
Re: Computer Help...
Boot in safe mode and run Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html) and AVG Free (http://free.grisoft.com/) scans.

Re: Computer Help...
I would say buy a new one.

Re: Computer Help...
My computer skills are just fine. I've installed Registry Fix, and Ad-Aware Plus 07, but I had to go before I could try spybot or Panda antivirus.
Plus my mouse is out of batteries so I'm 100% keyboard right now. |

Spybot will most likely find it in safe mode, and if it doesn't Ewido will. |
Re: Computer Help...
I'd say that you should just do one of those system recovery things... to the morning before the problem happened... They should have one for every day, so you shouldn't have any problem with it.

Re: Computer Help...
system restore would work if the restore point is really far back there may be a little data loss, but nothing a flash drive cant hold.
