Would this be a 15 or a 16?

Combining 5 songs to be one after another.

[13] Quasar
[13] Uber Rave
[13] Cyber Induction
[14] Boss on Parade
[12] Light Emitting Diode M

15 minutes, at roughly 150/170/190/190/170 BPM, all stamina charts.

15 or 16 difficulty?

If you make this file, I definitely want to try it.

Quasar - never have considered this a 13 because the run speed is fairly slow.
Uber Rave - VERY long run at the end is extremely draining.
Cyber Induction - don't remember this chart too well.
Boss on Parade - extremely long song that will probably crack many people who get this far into the marathon simply because it's draining. (Unless, you're talking about the fast version of Boss on Parade which is rated a 14 but really shouldn't be.)
Light Emitting Diode M - way too easy for an ending. I'd much rather see Light Emitting Diode X for the ending because it too, ends with a fast run, but throws some 24ths to add an amazing fight to the finish.

As you have it now, I'd probably consider this a 15.

It'd be a 14. The Dragonforce Marathon is a 16 and its 3 (or 4 idr) 15s and a 16. These songs aren't all that bad by todays standards. It'd be a hard 14 or EASY 15 at most.

These standards seem to be ever-changing. Why?

Because thats how progression works? Years ago Max 300 was considered really fast and a stamina killer. Now people read at twice that speed comfortably and its not even considered that good AAing it anymore.

So these levels are based upon peoples skill levels relative to the difficulty of the song rather than the difficulty of the song itself?

Is difficulty of the song not relative to the player themself?

????

uhhh what?

Basically one person will raise the bar of what was thought impossible or really really hard, then more people close to that persons skill level will push for that and so on and it trickles down. Then someone else will push the bar even higher and the process is repeated.

We've gone through this since the first DDR. A Full Combo on Paranoia would win 1st place in tournaments. Now most people can tie AAAs on DDR and its more or less a matter of consistency and not slipping up.

For ITG back in 05/06 passing Summer was still good. Now its common to see 96+ on it. Passing Air was ridiculous and now people have near SDEs on it. Even passing One more lovely is starting to become commonplace. Once a bar is set people naturally push faster to reach it than before when it wasnt achievable.

So basically this difficulty system is not due to how generally difficult it may be for people, but how it is for the group as they progress? That kind of seems like the difficulty system may start to fluctuate somewhere along the line, then, right?

No...the difficulty remains the same. Max 300 can still be considered a 10 as Summer is still a 13. People just naturally get better quicker over time when the bar is raised. If people still thought 8 footers on DDR were the hardest songs possible we wouldn't have people doing 15s and stuff.
