If you're playing one-handed on the arrow keys, try using your index finger for the down arrow.

down arrow: index finger
up arrow: middle finger
right arrow: ring finger

You can use your index finger for both the left arrow and down arrow. Similarly, you can use your middle finger for both the down arrow and up arrow, depending on the situation.

How does that feel to you?

When the pattern goes left i use my middle finger for the up and down arrow and the index finger for the left key.

But a good one for using my middle finger for down and up en use my ring finger for the right key (i do this patterns always with 2 fingers (it feels nice when i do that)).

I think the reason is it goes better when the pattern is going left is that i'm left handed XD.

I'm trying to mirror the movement i do when the pattern goes left to my right it's damm hard for me :S.
I always miss 1 or 2 arrows in that pattern :(.

Lol at bmah assuming right-handed.

Another way you could hit this is with index finger on down, middle finger on up, and then slide your index over to the right key. This could also be effective for crossover (234323432) type patterns.

Well similar deal if you're using the left hand. If you're going down-up-right:

down: index finger
up: middle finger
right: index finger

No sliding needed.

A few things:

1. What Bmah's said makes a lot of sense if you plan on staying one handed.

2. Have you considered four key one handed? I don't know a specific setup that works well but I've heard it being done. I think it revolves around a set up like HJKL or something. I'm unsure of this, and I don't want to throw out bad info.

3. Most of FFR (and myself) cannot stress the setup of spread being the "best" way to approach this game enough. You may want to consider switching styles earlier rather than later. Not to say that learning one handed isn't a good idea as it helps a lot with control. If you are interested, a lot of us can help you out learning this style.

With regards to one hand, four fingers:

I know ZXCV works on several keyboards for simultaneous support of four keys. However, that's for playing with the index, middle, ring, and pinky fingers. It's generally agreed that playing with the thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers is a more effective playstyle though. For the first setup, you have to deal with pinky-ring trills (ouch), whereas with the latter the worst possible trill is a ring-middle trill. Unless you happen to be terrible with your thumb, but that's another story. Obviously, you can't use four consecutive keys for this setup, so you may want to use something like QWEC or something that even incorporates the space bar.

Another solution is to get a really flat keyboard, so your middle finger can slide across the two middle keys in either direction

Incoming wisdom from one handed fc Masta!

Using one handed on arrow keys or whatever set up you are using is always going to have its disadvantages.
Going from down arrow to up seems simple enough. The catch is when you are going from up to down you can simply slide your finger or quickly tap it due to the natural curve your fingers do.
When going from down to up you have to extend your finger rapidly and to do so it isn't always how you hoped.
My suggestion is get a flat keyboard and try learning to slide on flat keys. Make sure the keyboard won't catch on your fingers when sliding up. It helps incredibly in those up down up down trills. I support your one handed play but I warn you it is incredibly risky. Wrist problems come quicker then switching to spread.

Thanks for the replies all.
Some of you get a keyboard flat keys.
I have a Logithech k200 keyboard.
Some pics of my keyboard:

@8 Hour Whore: I'm aware of wrist problems. That's the reason i don't play too much too often. Some days i play 4-5 hours and i take sometimes some days off and i'm already diecided to stay with this style.

It's probably because you go Up->Down->Left
I bet you're more comfortable going up->down instead of down->up
Most people are including myself. You should get more comfortable going down->up as time goes by and you keep playing, or you can go with bmah and use your index or ring (depending on which hand you play with)

Re: difficults with a certain pattern

A few people have noted effective methods I agree with. Question about your keyboard and yourself. Firstly, with your keyboard, are you capable of sliding your middle finger on the "up" and "down" arrow keys? Secondly, do you have long nails?

Your keyboard looks slim, but I still can't tell if it's easy to slide on based off appearance in the photos. And if you have long nails, or fake nails, then sliding will likely be impossible.

If you find sliding easy to do on your keyboard, then pay close attention to what 8 Hour Whore said, and practice it until it feels comfortable. This is how I play and I agree from experience.

If you don't find sliding easy, and your nails or fingers get caught in between keys, and you can't slide without flow, then consider Bmah's method.

@magicturbo
I have very short nails (i often bite them off).

About my keyboard the keys are pretty flat.
I can lay it on my desk or use the extension behind for letting it standing up so i can switch.
Sometimes i play on my laptop (shown in my video) which has only flat keys.

But from what i have red i need to pratice and making me comfortable with it.

I also purchased a new keyboard, a really great one, with flat keys too, but I can't slide on it like you'd expect from looking at it. It really is something you have to experiment with on your keyboard. It's possible your laptop keyboard might be more friendly for One-Handed play. It's the only reason I use my laptop keyboard now.

On my desktop i play better a little, because i have never lagg and on my laptop i have lagg at the starting of Holcyon.
Both keyboards are good for playing FFR, but sometimes (rarely) on my laptop it doesn't register the key (annoying).
