drizzleRomanceGirl's FFR Team Tournament

drizzleRomanceGirl's FFR Team Tournament

I hope you had a lot of fun in this tournament and got to know each other a little better by getting to know your teams and cheering them on. :)

Format
1. First of all, this tournament was based on raw scoring.
2. MAKE SURE you have enough time to give forth your best effort for your team before you join this tournament; if you quit after the tournament has started, then your team will only get the same score as the last place team for the round you are absent.
3. Each round will last for three days, and each person from his or her team participating for the round will be the only person from that team participating for this round.
4. This tournament will be cumulative, and whichever team gets the highest total raw score after all the rounds are finished will win their division.
5. The number of rounds per cycle is five. There will be three cycles, in which each member in a team will participate in one round for every cycle.
6. The people who will be in each team will be determined by me; however, please tell me if you'd like me to place you with specific people inside your division, and I will highly consider it. :)
7. Each team will have a captain who will decide who will be playing each round.
8. Each team will decide who their captain is by popular vote. The votes will be inside this thread, you may only vote once, and you may not vote for yourself. If there is a tie, then you will vote again between the highest people who tied, and if you happen to tie a second time, I will decide who the captain will be.
9. Once all the captains have been decided, each captain will PM (Private Message) me the order of each team once he or she has decided so that no one will know who is facing whom until the first round begins. After a captain has PMd me about the order of his or her team, I will PM each member of that team their order for each round. PLEASE DO NOT TELL ANY OTHER TEAMS YOUR ORDER UNTIL THE FIRST ROUND, WHERE I WILL ANNOUNCE THE FINALIZED ORDER FOR EACH TEAM.
10. Note: captains should try to place everyone within their team carefully so that the team will have their strongest players in the round that will be the most crucial. You may want your strongest player for your team in the last round to increase your team's chances of winning your division, or you may want your strongest player in the middle round to (hopefully) increase your raw score and gain an advantage in the middle of the tournament. It's up to you. :)
11. Only one person from each team will participate for each round, and each round will consist of one song. There will be either three cycles. In each cycle, there will be five rounds, and everyone within a team can only be in one round per cycle except for teams with four people, where the team captain will choose an extra person to participate in two rounds in the same cycle. When a specific member from each team is participating in a round for the current cycle, the other members of each team will not be participating because it is not their round to play any songs yet. The highest added raw score for each person will be his or her total score for the round, and the highest score for a team after all the rounds have taken place will be the winner of their division!
12. For clarification, this tournament will be non-elimination. :)
13. When I am talking about what time each round will start and end, I will be using the FFR Server Time/Central Time (which can be found at the top of this website).
14. To make up for the time when all the team members not participating are waiting for their turns, there will be Spon Cons! :D (random events that may be related or unrelated to FFR, where you get credit prizes for getting the top scores in the thread). The top three people in each event will win credit prizes. HOWEVER, THE PEOPLE WHO ARE CURRENTLY PLAYING SONGS IN THEIR ROUND CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN THESE EVENTS. Note: there WILL be participation prizes for Spon Con events. Additionally, each Spon Con will end the same time the current round ends.
15. I will give hints for the songs I will have for every cycle for each division! I will post song hints at the beginning of round 5 for every cycle, and team captains will have until two days after round 5 ends to submit their new team order, or I will assign the order for the team captains who didn't submit in time. In addition, there are five rounds every cycle, and the first and fifth round every cycle will have the most difficult songs, while the second and fourth rounds will be moderate difficulty, and the third round will be the easiest for every cycle. ^.^
16. Note: Each team will have either four or five people on a team (mostly four though), and the teams with four people must have their team captain decide which person within their team will participate in more than one round in a cycle. However, the extra person who participates in two rounds per cycle can only be the extra person once in the entire tournament.

Requirements
1. Scores will be counted by screenshots only, which will be posted within the thread with your username and timestamp included.
2. There will be no flaming, trolling, or spamming allowed, and if I see anyone doing an excessive amount of it, then you will be kicked out of the tournament. Also, for anything I think is inappropriate, I will give you a warning, and if you use the same or a similar inappropriate response, you will be kicked from the tournament.
3. Do not put anyone down or insult anyone for any reason, especially if your team member gets a bad score. You may also be kicked from the tournament for this reason.
4. All FFR engines, including Legacy, R2, Velocity, and R3, as well as the universal and MP versions, are allowed.
5. There will be NO modifications allowed other than speed mods/modifications, dark mod/modification, autofail, and mirror mod/modification. In addition, rates (playing the song faster or slower than it should be in R^3) are NOT allowed
6. Team captains will have to choose a name for their team, and I will refer to each team by their team names for the rest of the tournament. :)
7. Failure to sumbit for your round will result in that person being kicked out of the tournament unless you notify me beforehand, and have a good reason why you won't be able to participate any of the five rounds. It should be easy to make time for just three days (or less) out of fifteen days. ^.^

Re: drizzleRomanceGirl's FFR Team Tournament

Thank you for joining so quickly everyone! I've thought about the format and I'm actually changing part of it so that instead of having one round per person with four songs, I'm going to make it so that there's three-four cycles where each cycle includes one round for each member of a team. Each round will be for three days, and each person will get to be in three to four rounds. ^.^

@Halfstep, Thank you for the donation! I'll update the list shortly. :)

@SC_coolguy44, I have no idea when it'll start, but it may approximately start in about two weeks, possibly? It honestly depends on how many people join and how long it'll take me to place everyone, as well as how long voting for captains will take and the order of each team by the captains.

@Lambdadelta, Thank you! I hope this tournament is successful. ^.^

Maybe, but the teams would be way too large for the kind of tournament I'm aiming for, and even if I split teams such as Team Blaze into separate teams, some people might want to join others who haven't joined an official FFR team (e.g. Team Pokemon). Thank you for the advice though!

:P I didn't know that. ^.^ I'm sorry if you get mindblocks on songs that have patterns you're not used to, but that's part of the tournament: it tests your skill to overcomes difficult songs. :)

*edit* There will be either three to four cycles (I haven't decided which yet.) In each cycle, there will be one round for *each* member of a team (all teams will have the same amount of people.) Three cycles would mean each person within a team plays three different songs total, and four cycles would mean each person within a team plays four different songs total. When a specific member from each team is participating in a round for the current cycle, the other members of each team will not be participating because it is not their round to play any songs yet.

Its kind of odd to knock out mirror, someone could technically downscroll/upscroll and flip their monitor image and get the same effect. It would probably just be better to allow it in the first place because its something equal opportunity that most if not all people use.

Just my 2c

I'll join, and just to throw this out there I think mirror should really be allowed, I rarely use it myself but it really doesn't count as a mod and it's used as a different way to play like downscroll or different noteskins (for the record I actually use downscroll and beatmania skin)

Re: drizzleRomanceGirl's FFR Team Tournament

Thank you for the advice, but in my opinion, I think using mirror is going against what the original stepartist intended. I really don't like the idea of inverting the entire stepchart to make the song easier or to avoid mindblocks. The stepartist stepped the file that way for a reason. :)

Re: drizzleRomanceGirl's FFR Team Tournament

Let me put my thoughts in this, dohoho.

I understand why you don't want mirror and agreeably it does make some charts easier when you flip the entire song, HOWEVER it's not changing how the step artist intended it to flow.

This is why mirror records and why other mods in R^3, like scramble and random, do not. It's because those mods change the entire flow and breaks both what the step artist saw AND the flow that the step artist made.

However, this is your tournament and don't mind the lock on the mirror mod, it would make some charts trickier to nail (depending on what hand you're strong in). Just know this is why mirror records.

The original FFR only allowed you to use arrow keys, so i can make the argument that anyone who uses anything other than arrow keys is going against the spirit of FFR. While i respect the fact that you're hosting the tournament and you're taking the time out to organize things, In order for something like this to be successful, its going to have to be fun for everyone.

When you restrict something as basic and widely used as mirror, you're going to turn people off on joining your tournament. It is your opinion that mirror is bad, ok thats fine, but I guarantee that you're in the minority here that think that way. You probably should compromise on this, there isn't any reason not to.

Like i said in a previous post, there is nothing stopping me from changing my scroll direction, flipping my monitor image and remapping my keys. Its not that hard to do, and in doing so i have achieved ghetto mirror and there is absolutely no way for you to tell that i did this besides requiring a video.

drizzleRomanceGirl 07-4-2013 11:12 PM

Re: drizzleRomanceGirl's FFR Team Tournament

Thank you for the advice Charu, and I understand where you're coming from, but I still believe that it wouldn't be that much of a difference to not use mirror. For instance, I'm left-handed, and I assume most stepartists are right-handed and made the majority of their files for right-handed people (whether consciously or unconsciously). However, I still overcome songs with heavy right-handed patterns with practice, which eventually makes those patterns easier.

*edit* Although I don't agree with people using mirror, I'll be willing to change my decision if five people or more (who join this tournament) vote against me restricting mirror.

I was planning an argument for being able to use mirror, then I thought of this. Makes my argument not worth forming.

Edit: Judgement on the Dark mod? Just noticed R^3 plasters it on the score screen under mods and thought I'd check.

Speedmods just change how quickly the arrows approach the receptors. It has the added benefit of inching somemore space between arrows to aid in reading them.

Rates allow you to play a song at a different speed. So you can make a song faster for more of a challenge or slow it down to get patterns figured out. It's only available in R^3 though due to technical programming stuffs.

I hugely approve of no mirror scores but I'm sure there'll be more complaints about it xP you can argue that it doesn't change the "flow" of the file, but it DOES change how the file was meant to be played, in stepping there's a decent amount of difference between a left hand trill that's made into a right hand trill, for example. And it's not like anyone playing can't use it at all, they just can't submit scores with it, so anyone who uses it for mind blocks can just switch back to regular after playing mirror for a bit anyway. Does this potentially suck? Yes, but oh well xD

Re: drizzleRomanceGirl's FFR Team Tournament

Mirror is a good thing. It prevents songs loaded with left handed stuff from giving too big of an advantage to left-handed players. Same problem for right handed. I can't do jacks or trills nearly as well with my left hand so no mirror might end up really costing me on some files.

That's not true; going more west in timezones would be negative (at least in the United States) so CST is -6, not -4 (since EST is -5 and you're going west one timezone), and CDT would be -5 because you're saving one hour by adding one hour. (e.g. -6 + 1 = -5)

In case any of this is confusing, CST stands for Central Standard Time, while CDT stands for Central Daylight Time (which is CST during daylight savings time). The same rule goes for EST, which stands for Eastern Standard Time, while EDT stands for Eastern Daylight Time.

I would say "I'm in" but...I really have to think about it. I don't want to join and then drop, that'd be unfair.

This is a really stupid question but we can play with the arrows scrolling down and that doesn't count as a mod, right?

In my opinion, no questions are stupid, and I appreciate you asking me. ^.^ Yes, you can. :) The scrolling direction doesn't count as a mod.

Thank you for the donation! :) Also, the mirror mod is officially allowed for the tournament as of now. ^.^

Ok, that would be a good start time for me. However, there is one week at the beginning of August I may not be able to submit because I will be away.

I'll notify everyone once the start date gets closer when each round will take place, so hopefully your captain (or if you are the captain) will make your rounds at a time when it doesn't interfere when you're away. :)

Also, does this mean you're joining the tournament?
