Oh okay, that's cool then. I thought you were going to be awarded multiple prizes if you won both, that's why it seemed weird.

Re: MetalAtlas' Back To Basics Tourney

Hi I'm completely new to FFR forums, and would like to start taking part in tournaments. I don't really know how, so I guess thats why I'm posting.
In terms of my skill level, I have FC'd {arabian assassin}, {red alert}, Maple Leaf Rag, and a few other 9s and 8s. I'm currently working on FCing some 9s. What division should I sign up for?
I guess my sign up is 1hr late, so if I could still participate It would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Casperghost
yeah you're good i added you to D1 we'll see how you do

K, change me into D1 then. I can't even FC 9's and I can't FC hard 8's.(which imo red alert is). Also someone who can FC 9's into D1? :|

I feel, that if YOU feel this is going to be ran horribly based upon placements, let them be so and you can "I told you so" later. DF is running an excellent tournament with a HUGE outcome. I agree you can easily base your placements off of them. I do. But, it IS your tournament.

I have hosted with you Shayne countless times no matter what it is. I know you'll do the right thing in this. As a friend and ex-co-hoster.

Saying "I told you so" at the end of a tournament just makes you look even more like an asshole because you knew about the misplaced people the entire time and let the rest of the division suffer. Yes, Shayne is allowed to run the tournament the way he wants - notice how we're not talking to him about his actual tournament itself, how the scoring is, credits, etc. There's nothing demeaning about bringing up division mis-placements because they always happen, no matter what tournament you're in. People are either dis-honest or just suddenly take a turn for the worst (or for the better, even). Being off one division in a six division tournament is perfectly alright, because even the slightest of discrepancies can cause that. Being off two divisions is a bit of a problem, but again, things happen. People have skill drops, or have major boosts (and simply don't say anything).

However, I will say this - if you're going to run a tournament, you most definitely need to have someone who is willing to view the levelstats of other users.

Also, I wasn't laughing at MP3 player being misplaced, I only posted the way I did because it was an absolute urgency, and a huge division misplacement that would have pretty much pissed off all of D2 once they saw the AAA; people with the Oni token unlock shouldn't be any lower than D5 out of 6, unless their song is an index friendly song (FotBB), from which you see their stats on other songs and check their weekly ranks to see if they've made any sort of improvement that hasn't been shown in a replay.

^ I agree. I'd feel scared if he was even in D4. Person with oni/token whore =d5/d6 automatically.

Re: MetalAtlas' Back To Basics Tourney

Oni is D5 automatically, that's been established a long time ago. Token whore (in my opinion) should be auto D6. It doesn't matter what their levelranks look like if you can see that their skill tokens look like that :P yes they still matter, but it's not as necessary to place. And yes, I do understand that you don't go completely off of skill tokens :P

To answer another question, the reason why some people are dual-placed is because they used to be in the higher division, yet since the site has been back, they're still gaining their skill back, and as the tourney progresses, the person in question will be placed according to playing skill at the present time, which will likely be in the higher level. If I understand Shayne's intentions correctly, you'll more than likely get rewarded the credits if you play in the higher division and place, rather than playing in the lower one and just taking the easy ride.

Sign ups are likely over if Shayne has definitely decided to end them. If this is true, then the tourney should start by or before October 28th.

With all of that being said, Shayne I'd like to compete in both D2 and D3, seeing as I finally AAA'd my first 9 (well, first recorded one) and I have been getting more and more AAA's lately. I do still want to do D2 just to see if I turn out to truthfully suck XD but I'll only accept D3 rewards if I get them.

cool, because an index player being able to AAA a song with slow jumps like Club totally puts them in D5 when they'll end up getting 100+ goods on something like EHHS or Garyoutensei, etc. It's about overall consistency. Being good at one song shouldn't put you at a gross disadvantage - there's actually a player in our tournament who has a FotBB AAA, and they're sitting in D4/D5 (iirc). Does that mean I'm going to put them in D6 or D7? Not when they barely have SDGs on any 10s and their overall level-stats as well as weekly/monthly level-stats don't show them doing any better than they were when the site went down.

Having all of the skill tokens really doesn't mean that you're D6 either - anyone can have anyone else achieve tokens for them in a secret manner (hiding IP addresses, theoretically).

Double-placements are eh...I don't think they're horrible, because yeah, a person might be on the borderline of two divisions and they may not know where they belong. But putting a person in two divisions when they clearly belong in one...never have seen my way through that and I really can't understand it.

Stavie shouldn't be D3 though - not with two level 12 AAAs.

Re: MetalAtlas' Back To Basics Tourney

Token Whore is definitely NOT automatically D6. D6 should be for people that AAA FGO songs (since it's the highest placement)

Token Whore is actually not that difficult to get, it just takes a long time.
I'd personally say D5. I've earned Token Whore myself, and it's a LOT easier than you'd think. I thought it was impossible for the longest time but realized it wasn't so hard once I got it.

Yeah D5 is probably a better place for people that cannot AAA FGOs

rushy, ^^^^^^^^

And guys, like I said, it was my opinion. I wouldn't know about getting Token Whore because I suck at the damn game, so chill >.>

And FotBB AAA and only D4/D5..............I guess to each his own........

Oh and:

If this was to be carried out, then krunky wouldn't be in D6 and a whole bunch of other people wouldn't be in D6, yet they all have the ability to do well (not necessarily win) in D6.

To start off with, I dont see the point of running in two divisions, just be placed in the higher one and keep your own personal scores if you'd like for the other division.

Also, I think AAA 8's and 9's is a D3 placement at least, because I am a D2 and have only AAA'd Secret Zombie Room (5) and Fours and Lower. That's my opinion.

The issue is that everyone is at their own skill level, and I don't believe two people are evenly matched. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. It's impossible to break everyone down into a perfectly even six categories; the range of skill is too wide. We have to take what we get and try the best we can within our division, wherever we are placed.

Placements are tricky and controversial, but placements can be made within a division accurately without some freak skill jump. Sometimes we forget, however, the competitive spirit when we bicker about skill placements too much. The idea is to improve own skills. It's not always about leading the division. It's like in the other tournament, I'm in a division with D2 players that are better (with PA) than I am. I know I'm not going to win the division, but Im going to do the best that I can to finish as high in the standings as possible.

So when we get down to "Am I in D(x) or D(x+1)?" lets take the higher road and challenge ourselves. That's what I think.

Re: MetalAtlas' Back To Basics Tourney

Well, this is a public announcement:

I am going to be helping Shayne with the running and placements of people in this tournament. For the rest of tonight and all of tomorrow for confirmation, Shayne and I will be comprising a final list of all placements. If, after the tournament has started, there are signs of a person playing at a higher ability than the division they are placed in, the person in question will be moved up, no exceptions.

Everything for the start of the tournament will be ready no later than 12:00 A.M. on October, 28th. Songs for the first round will be posted shortly after the post for the final placements.

Any complaints will result in a warning that it is just a game and not to complain. Any other problems will result in removal from the tournament.

For any questions or concerns about placements before we have our final say, please contact either MetalAtlas (Shayne) or myself.

Thanks.
